Okay okay, we have a number of favorite spots in Amsterdam and okay okay okay okayeeeeee there are quite a few of them that deserve a pat on the back for their cuisine. But since classic Hotel de L'Europe a crazy contemporary one copy-paste-go-home-please upgrade got (beautiful) + a new equally awesome Italian restaurant, Trattoria Graziella+ the finest terrace in Amsterdam, Marie (also nice to sit with a blanket) + still fantastic food (understatement) serves with Flora + Freddy's Bar the craziest bar is in the center of Amsterdam (because oldskool but cool) we absolutely #neverwanttogohome there. Number 1 by far, certainly because of the incredibly good restaurants (Flore even has a star and is absolutely amazing, although we don't really like sitting at Marie or Graziella's (or in our room with pizza in the bath).
Although… The aforementioned may share the first place with the Pulitzer Hotel. Truly a magnificent spot in one of the nicest locations in the city. Instagramworthy, that's what you could call it. Authentic and yet with a modern twist touchDutch grandeur and, frankly, Amsterdam's finest. Spending the whole day here is no punishment. Sleep in one of the Pulitzer's gigantic rooms and go for an extensive dinner at restaurant Jansz: the menu is updated regularly, and we are always delighted by the menu full of modern classics and a down-to-earth Amsterdam vibe. A real treat. Oh, and the kids can come along too. Very well, in fact! Plus points? For the garden. In the summer, one of the best spots in the city.

Just to drop another icon: the White Room in Hotel Anantara Krasnapolsky, a household name in Amsterdam for good reason. On Dam Square – it doesn't get any better than this. And right away, you have the oldest and, quite rightly, most elegant restaurant in Amsterdam, under the general direction of 3-Michelin-star chef Jacob Jan Boerma and the daily management of Tristan de Boer. Just imagine the benefits! And there is also a very fine bar. Finally, we cannot fail to mention the Wintergarden: a hidden gem that even many Amsterdammers are unaware of. You go there for one of the events hosted there, such as a Mother's Day or Easter brunch: these are unforgettable outings for the modern family!
Okay okay okay… It won't be a budget list (Amsterdam isn't exactly a cheap hotel city anyway, unfortunately), but Hotel Twenty Seven must be mentioned here as well. Because of the location (also ON Dam Square), because of the iconic De Groote Club (the bar), and because restaurant Bougainville (1 star). Hooray. The hotel and the restaurant are delightfully lavish, and an evening (and night) out is truly an evening and night out. And now there is also Bo by Bougainville: a more accessible dining experience alongside the luxury Bougainville. And naturally just as amazing. Tip: book (even if you're not a guest!) the TwentySeven Breakfast Experience, also created by chef Tim Golsteijn. And thank us later.
A nice little bridge to restaurant Eeuwen in the waaaaanzinnige Hotel Rosewood Amsterdam, so to speak, the last (major) hotel opening in the capital. The total renovation of the historic building on Amsterdam's Prinsengracht, built in 1665 and for years the Amsterdam Palace of Justice, took over ten years. An icon on the canal, right in the heart of the city. And since recently (April 2025), the home of the Rosewood Hotel Amsterdam where—after all, that renovation has to pay for itself—you pay a mere 1000 euros per room per night… We can have all sorts of opinions about that, but letting this opening pass unnoticed is simply not an option. And we admit: the hotel is absolutely stunning, incredibly chic, and the service is outstanding. So anyone who has plenty of money, and wants to flaunt it, will do so perfectly well here. Luxury without the expense? Go out for dinner at Eeuwen! Highly recommended: remarkably unpretentious, moreover, and the garden… oh, that garden!
Okay, then a nice budget option., for both rooms and dinner. You can find them in Hyatt Regency Amsterdam can be found right in the heart of our capital. The hotel is for several reasons top notch and the perfect base: a business trip, weekend getaway, meeting or an extensive dinner, you name it. You don't have to go far for a good dinner, at Hyatt Regency in-house restaurant Ma
Fan of The Hoxton Hotels? You could certainly say that. With locations all over the world, we are fortunate enough to have (or will soon have) two in our own capital as well. The Hoxton, Lloyd in Amsterdam East is a favorite for all-day dining: the affordable (!!) room, the truly amazing all-day restaurant, the fantastic bar, and the sunny terrace. The cuisine is inspired by the original features of the characteristic old Lloyd building. With in-house cocktail bar Barbue en Breman Brasserie with a classic European menu, you are sitting here all day top. Very nice interior, nice to work in, beautiful terrace at the back and it is a beautiful building. So don't do anything about it anymore.
Discover Japan in your own country. More specifically in your own city. Where should you be then? At the Okura Hotel Naturally. Here you get a taste of Japanese hospitality. And… You get the feeling as if you are really away from home. On the menu: Yamazato (traditional Japanese cuisine) and sazanka (Teppanyaki). To die for. Fresh ingredients, surprising flavor combinations and Japanese cuisine at its best. From the moment you step in until you walk out again or into your room, the evening runs smoothly and as it should collision.
Do you fancy a holiday to the tropics – with lots of palm trees, a swimming pool and good food? Good news, because you really don't have to get on a plane. No, you just book a few extra days Hotel Jakarta (by Westcord) in Amsterdam and it feels like you are somewhere in Indonesia. For a real Indonesian rice table, sit down at Café Jakarta, and order cocktails at Skybar Malabar until the late hours. Yes yes, Hotel Jakarta has everything for that staycation in Amsterdam.
Our absolute budget favorite is a hidden gem in the East: The Gilded Unicorn. The kind of place you wouldn't have expected existed in Amsterdam. An old city farm transformed into a cozy boutique hotel with a truly delicious restaurant. Moreover, it is a wonderful place to visit with your kids, especially in the summer when they can run around outside. Do you start staycation especially with a drink board (all the trimmings), then sit down for a three-course dinner and lie down in a wonderfully soft bed with a full belly. Getting up is no punishment here with a well-organized breakfast and ultimate peace and quiet in the middle of the greenery.
On the Prinsengracht, in the stylish Andaz hotel, do you think Prince & Monkey: a place where design, cocktails and c come together perfectly. With an impressively eclectic interior – complete with a nod to Dutch history – this is the place to sip cocktails, gaze outside and be royally pampered. The menu? Full of delicious dishes from local partners and perfect for sharing (or not, your plate, your rules). Start with Zeeland oysters, lamb samosas, tempura tiger prawns and thick fries from Zuyd. The main courses are like works of art, just like the interior. Pour a cocktail and your evening can't go wrong.
Damn, and then we also have The Dylan. Once again, such a lovely one on the Amsterdam canal. In particular, we find Brasserie Occo Just a great tip: not too popular, not about seeing and being seen. But always good. But also... Vinkeles (so delicious).
And The Dylan is an especially awesome place to stay for anyone who wants to retreat for a while right in the middle of the city: the hotel regularly hosts writers who want to blast out their texts, and we totally get that: The Dylan is a creative oasis (with very good food). Oh, and in the summer, the terrace is a gift that many people forget – here it is!
And another budget-friendly option: resting or not at all, that is gain Volkshotel for. Why? Simple, the hotel is a jack of all trades. You sleep on a wonderful bed, it is one of the nicest work-from-home places and you are served at your every beck and call by an unbridledly enthusiastic team. Oh, and they have a hit kitchen. Cheerful and uplifting, from the ground floor to the amazing roof terrace where Canvas restaurant is located on the 7th floor.
The well-known Conservatory hotel became the Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, and that club reeled in – alongside restaurant Taiko, which is already very good – none other than Chef Ottolenghi! Of course, the renowned chef isn't in the kitchen himself, but he did put together the menu.
In the heart of Amsterdam, next to the famous museums, stands the iconic Conservatory. Whether you come for a massage at Akasha Spa or spend an evening dining in the restaurant Taiko or has lunch at ottolenghi (do it!) or – treat yourself – stay overnight in one of the incredibly beautiful rooms; the experience is unforgettable. Almost un-Dutch. So, perfect if you want to experience the feeling of getting away from it all, but don't want to. trip across the border is on the programme. It is one of the most wonderful places in the city.
Oh how we love coming here. Nice rooms, nice bed, good Service and the restaurant Vessel kitchen & bar It is simply top-notch; during the day, it is a great place to work or study. And a little secret: Vessel is perhaps the very best spot in the summer because of the huge terrace overlooking the IJ. But in the winter, it has a crackling fireplace – perfect spot: get a breath of fresh air first, then huddle in front of the fire immediately afterwards. Boat&Co has done everything possible to make it as comfortable as possible.
