Bart's best of: favorite and nice hotels in Amsterdam
Yes, but of course we recommend the best hotels all over the place. And of course our own capital can Amsterdam don't be left behind. And oh, there are some good ones hotels to find. From the famous all-time favorites to new undiscovered places to sleep. You understand, a list, in no particular order. Save them all!
In Amsterdam? Be sure to grab it too this list of great catering establishments in the city.
at the center
In the heart of Amsterdam's Jordaan, a stone's throw from the beautiful Westerkerk, lies Mercier Hotel: a beautiful example with a splendid interior. In the middle of the Jordaan, within walking distance of the Negen Straatjes and conveniently located between the center and the Oud-West district. We can't describe it better ourselves: Hotel Mercier is “a true treasure chest full of art deco, rich prints, velvet and unique works of art”. There are beautiful tapestries everywhere on the walls and every room has different works of art on the walls. The furniture is beautiful and the mix of different materials and structures on the floor, for example, is wonderfully playful.
Pulitzer Amsterdam, a hotel whose contents you would love to load up and take home with you. But there is much more that makes this a beloved retreat: the hospitality and restaurants (two!) are so good that we absolutely wouldn't mind staying here to move there permanently. The hotel consists of a collection of no fewer than 25 interconnected canal houses. A little passageway here, a hidden corner there. Nothing exaggerated or too chic. Down-to-earth Dutch vibes combined with modern and simply very beautiful. The Pulitzer Bar is a favorite for a glass of Chablis (by the glass) at the end of the day, the inner courtyard is unique in the summer, and those who want to splurge can book the beautiful salon boat.

You sleep almost nowhere as well as at Hoxton hotels. They can be found in almost every major city around the world, and naturally, one in a centuries-old Amsterdam canal house couldn't be missing. The location is wonderfully central: on the edge of the Nine Streets and right on the Herengracht. More Happening It doesn't get much better than this. And of course, aesthetics matter too. Fortunately, everything has been thought of at The Hoxton. Modern warmth is cleverly combined with classic elements, and all rooms are unique (yet all equally beautiful). The very best place for a business (but casual) meeting? Here. Breakfast? Here. Friday afternoon drinks? Here.
Okay okay, we have a number of favorite addresses in Amsterdam and okay okay okay okay okay there are quite a few of them that deserve praise for their cuisine. But since classic Hotel de L'Europe a crazy contemporary one copy-paste-go-home-please upgrade (beautiful) + a new, equally awesome Italian restaurant + the nicest terrace in Amsterdam (also nice to sit with a blanket) + still fantastic good food (understatement) serves at Flore + Freddy's Bar, the craziest bar in the center of Amsterdam (because oldskoolbut cool) and a bookshop of Mendo, we absolutely #neverwanttogohomeagain.
It is precisely hotels like Estherea which can hardly be surpassed in terms of price, quality (top-notch), location (right in the heart of the city! Near the Nine Streets), and service (remarkably young and impeccable). And yet they are forgotten far too often, because they aren't on the 'hip & happening' list. Honestly, that is why we think Hotel Estherea is possibly even nicer… In short: with the exception of a few B&Bs, Hotel Estherea is one of the very best places for a weekend in Amsterdam, and often, if you are a little flexible with booking, remarkably affordable too. Ha!

My favorite, the five-star hotel The Dylan. At The Dylan you always have to literally cross a threshold. But once you step through that beautiful gate, believe us, you won't want to leave. Not only nice for sleeping, but also a true culinary tour de force. A hidden (nicely anonymous) courtyard with large tables where you can relax in the summer, yes please. A menu with good classics such as steak tatare (with fries), burrata and more. Nice bar bites, extensive wine list and five-star service at Occo.
The total renovation of the historic building on Amsterdam's Prinsengracht, built in 1665 and for many years the Amsterdam Palace of Justice, took over ten years. An icon on the canal, right in the heart of the city. And the home of the Rosewood Hotel Amsterdam where you pay a mere 1.000 euros per room per night—after all, that renovation has to be recouped… We can have all sorts of opinions about that, but the fact remains that the hotel is stunningly beautiful, ultra-chic, and the service is outstanding. So, anyone who has plenty of money, and wants to flaunt it, will do so perfectly well here.
Upon entering Hotel The Craftsmen The centuries-old details immediately stand out (hello Delft Blue tiles, hi original wooden beams), and you feel that this is a place with a rich past. The three historic canal houses housing Hotel The Craftsmen together form a national monument. In the 17th century, one of the three buildings was constructed by none other than Roelof Swaen, adjutant to Michiel de Ruiter, who used it as a ferry house. Fast forward to 1917 when Mr. Brouwer turned it into a hotel. And now, another hundred years later, the Zandbergen family has taken over the iconic national monument to transform it into an atmospheric family owned hotel. And here too: surprisingly often very good deals.

Totally in the city center, completely boutique, and simply a top base for exploring the city: Kimpton de WittYou can borrow bikes for free, the Nine Streets are just around the corner, and at the end of your day, you come home to your elegant suite with truly Dutch details. Applause for Kimpton de Witt and for restaurant Celia, where you are amazing all day long you can eat well (it is also one of our most favorite workspaces in Amsterdam, and that says something). Oh, just a quick word about that room (even the smallest rooms are suites): they are fresh and beautiful in white and blue tones, and the bath products are a real treat.
The unique building is located opposite the Central Station in Amsterdam Amrath Hotel. In the past, you could buy tickets here to embark on a long sea voyage; now it still exudes that grandeur and power, but you can simply eat and sleep well. It is a bit dark inside, but it is and remains a top spot for – ha! – often remarkably good prices!
You will find 205 rooms, of which 22 are suites, 8 meeting and event rooms, Bar Lounge and a Spa & Wellness center.
Located on the Bloemgracht, next to the Prinsengracht you will find Mr. Jordaan. No bells and whistles, just a nice place with friendly staff. Conviviality comes first and free coffee and tea in the lounge.
Located in the heart of the city on the Prinsengracht canal, Hotel Andaz Amsterdam combines Dutch history with a generous dose of Marcel Wanders' design. The interior is a cheerful mix of art, enormous fish on the walls, Delft blue tiles, and yellow tulip-shaped reading chairs. With 122 rooms, a spa, a 24-hour fitness center, and over 600 meters of event space, it's anything but cramped, and those who really want to splurge can opt for the Prinsengracht Suite with a rooftop terrace. Around the corner, you'll find the Nine Streets and a wealth of fine restaurants, but you can also enjoy delicious food and drinks in the hotel itself. Bringing your four-legged friend? Thanks to the Veri Important Dog program, they'll get their own bed, blanket, and designer dog bowl.
Do you want to sleep in the heart of the Jordaan? Canal House. Canal House is luxurious and everything is done to ensure that you do not have to worry about anything. Atmosphere and experience at its best.
Boutique-style rooms decorated with dark wood and luxurious fabrics.

Do you want luxury and uniqueness? Then Pillows Maurits at the Park je go toThe entire hotel exudes class, boutique-ness and luxury, in virtually every detail. Everything is large and spacious, classical music plays through the speakers, and the staff is friendly and proper (but without becoming stiff, which we don't like either). Chic and classy, stylish, but not stiff. Boutique on steroidsAnd the kids? They can come along too. They will be spoiled just as much. Just give us a call regarding an extra bed. Fine dining in From East is perhaps just a bit too much to ask of them (but you are ABSOLUTELY going yourself), but at Spring Café Brasserie They have a kids' menu and regularly organize small events especially for the little ones.
It is busy and lively here from Monday morning until Sunday evening: hello Volkshotel in Amsterdam East. Just like ZOKU (a little further down the road) and The July (in South and in the Houthavens), the best one in our opinion. budget winner of the city. It is one of the few places where you feel unseen in a positive way, should you wish to work from home for a day. A place where everyone seems to feel at home.
Wibautstraat 150, 1091 GR
One-way ticket to the tropics in Amsterdam. It's possible. With lots of palm trees, a swimming pool and good food, you no longer have to board a plane. No, you just book a few extra days Hotel Jakarta in Amsterdam and it feels like you've ended up somewhere in Indonesia. The hotel of the WestCord chain is located on the water on Java Island in East Amsterdam, which has been one of the most sustainable hotels in our capital since 2018. A special (and photogenic) hotel, because they have a subtropical courtyard with meter-high palms and plants from Asia.
Hotel Jakarta is located on the spot where the boats to the Dutch East Indies used to leave and it is now a beautiful place that reminds us of that history.
This hotspot, the second Hoxton hotel in the city Just like its predecessor, it deserves the beauty prize (we wouldn't have expected anything less). A solid 10 for the entire look and feel of the industrial building that was once a school. Also, hands together for allArt throughout the hotel, courtesy of Bisou Gallery. All 136 hotel rooms are immaculate, sometimes tiny and sometimes enormous, like the Tune Room, which is dedicated to music and features a piano. MSix or eight of you can also sleep next to each other in the giant family bed, and Brasserie Breman has a wonderfully nice and sunny terrace.
Zoku It is a long-stay business hotel. But don't think that you have no business being there as a tourist: it is a nice place with good prices, even per night. And a fantastic rooftop terrace.
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, centrally located on the border of bustling Amsterdam East. One of the most upcoming Amsterdam's hotspots for that cozy neighborhood feel, diverse dining options, and endless terrace-hopping, all within a short somersault. The hotel is a perfect base for your business trip, a weekend getaway, a meeting, or a lavish dinner at the in-house restaurant Mama Makan. From relaxing in the spa and playing pool in the lounge to enjoying drinks at the bar or on the terrace, where you can sip botanical cocktails until the wee hours, Hyatt Regency has it all—the perfect combination of city life, a bit of greenery, and relaxation.
There are no fewer than four Hotel V hotels in the city, and the most inconspicuous, the most often forgotten, is the one on Fizeaustraat, quite deep in Amsterdam East. What a shame! The grand hotel is beautiful in all its mid-century design looks and because the location of the hotel not spot-on The rooms are affordable. As is the case at all Hotel V hotels, the hospitality here is also well done. Make sure to rent a few bikes in advance and you'll be perfectly situated.
The other Hotel V locations are also highly recommended: one on the Nes with restaurant The Lobby, one on Frederiksplein, and the newest Hotel V opened in Oosterpark in late 2025: the old Tropenhotel was stripped down and redecorated. The result is, as we have come to expect from the Hotel Vs, a warm whole: spacious yet intimate at the same time. Although this location is a bit bolder, whiter, and more 'Scandinavian' than its siblings. The restaurant is gigantic and the rooms are creatively laid out.

Right opposite the Olympic Stadium, not far from the Amsterdam Forest and close to Vondelpark and the Museum Quarter. In short, The July Twenty Eight It boasts a prime location, certainly for those who want to thoroughly explore Amsterdam South. Moreover, as we mentioned earlier, it is one of the few (unfortunately) truly fine 'budget' hotels in the city (in quotation marks, because Amsterdam is and remains a rather pricey city for hotels). The hotel is named after the 1928 Summer Olympics, which took place in our capital, and in the design of the building, the architect also took into account the desire for the sporting appearance to be in line with that of the stadium. What is it like on the inside? Just as nice. You can enjoy a luxurious stay here in one of the apartments (which thank goodness (You'll have all the comforts of a hotel: a fresh breakfast, room service, and daily housekeeping.) Oh yes, and you can also pamper yourself the old-fashioned way at the spa.
Okura Hotel, so that's a golden old classic and can't-go-wrong location. Hotel Okura Amsterdam had us at hello and has been doing so for years. You can taste, experience, and experience the Japanese sense of style and hospitality in everything. You could say that Okura is an oasis of peace in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. An icon on its own.
Barely inside you are immediately greeted with a traditional Japanese bow. Okura's restaurant alone is worth an evening of dining. Fresh ingredients, surprising flavor combinations and Japanese cuisine at its best. Phone away, glass full and chopsticks at the ready.
The beautiful area is located in the heart of Amsterdam, next to the museums Conservatory Hotel. A hotel where you are wrapped in luxury. A restaurant that you continue to dream about after visiting it once. And a spa that takes you away from all the hustle and bustle of the city in a second. Some nice luxury shops here. A lobby for a chic, soothing cup of coffee there. You do feel him. Actually, all that luxury is very un-Dutch. And that is precisely why it is such a good idea to settle down when you need a holiday, but don't want to travel for a while.
Sir Albert, a luxury hotel in the center of Amsterdam. The difference? The location: Sir Albert lives in De Pijp, opposite the popular café BinnenBuiten and within crawling distance of the Albert Cuijpmarkt and Museumplein. And that's nice. Above all, the decor is chic and therefore perhaps a bit impersonal... but it is certainly stylish. And Sir Albert may be luxurious, but it is often noticeably less expensive than you would think! And therefore one of the best price-quality hotels in the city.

Nice hotel with nice restaurants, that's what you have to go to Morgan & Mees.
No fuss, just classic French simplicity, with a touch of American bar style and a good dose of Amsterdam down-to-earthness. Which also applies to the menu: oysters, sirloin steak, steak tartare, chicken and chocolate mousse. Last but not least, one of the best Amsterdam places for a (business) lunch, go!
It is very beautiful hotel de Hallen, which was one of the first to open in the completely renovated tram depot in Amsterdam West. The Vondel Hotel Group runs the beautiful sleeping, dining and drinking area. The rooms are simple, smart luxury, but the wow factor lies in the central area where art adorns the walls and display cases. The restaurant (with a piece of old rails, a reference to the tram depot that the building once was) is a more than beautiful asset to the city.
Jan Luyken hides under the (gabled) roof of a number of Amsterdam mansions. And as we now know, Jan Luyken was named after the location (Jan Luijkenstraat). That location is in turn named after the once famous Amsterdam master poet and etcher Jan Luyken. Et voilà, so you logically find one 'touch of mr. Luyken' himself at the hotel. The rooms are tasteful and quirky and an ideal place to rest.
The building has been in use as a hotel since 1955 and now even as more than just a hotel. Let that holiday begin, because at Jan Luyken you get that little bit extra. From breakfast to tasty snacks and delicious cocktails. Phew, and what a wonderful escape from the busy city is that lush Parisian garden.
Is it a hotel? Or a museum? So both. Both in Amsterdam, but also in Rotterdam. The lobbies, lounges and other corners are filled with art, atmosphere and all kinds of quirky elements. Bee Hotel Not Hotel in West every room is unique. From a secret bookcase, sleeping in a vintage tram or in a Mediterranean villa. Something different for once, also fun.
The Hendrick's Hotel opened in 2017 with 25 uniquely decorated and especially spacious rooms. Located along the Prins Hendrikkade.
And how could it be otherwise, with this historic building, that the rooms in this hotel are inspired by trade, travel and romance.
noord
Okay, North isn't entirely correct because Durgerdam is actually a separate district northeast of the city center. But we have to put it somewhere. So here we go. The small village (where time seems to move ten times slower compared to Amsterdam city centre) has only one street and otherwise consists mainly of riverbank, lake, polder, and even more polder. And that oh-so-rich past of the region and the natural elements are reflected in the hotel, with, for example, hand-painted joinery from the time of the Zuiderzee, tile work, and soft, sensual, velvety fabrics in the rooms. And with those fine and beautiful rooms, you get free access to the natural swimming pool (IJmeer) and the surrounding nature.
Amsterdam Noord is flourishing, and Café Modern is one of the gems that has earned the district its increasingly positive reputation. The café, or rather the restaurant, is from the creators of Hotel de Goudfazant, a little further along in Noord. Like Café Modern, it's a restaurant, not a hotel. Housed in a former bank building, the interior feels like a canteen—a very handsome canteen with tablecloths and Heineken-green paneling. For a respectable €40, you can enjoy a four-course meal. Four courses! You can also order a perfectly shareable cheese board for €11.
What luck, there are actually two locations of the wonderful Bob W. One in Noord and the other in Oosterpark. Our favorite? Definitely the one in Noord (We love NorthYou definitely have to go here if you're in the mood for a weekend getaway, a surprise overnight stay, or just want to treat yourself. Because at Bob's, it's a real treat. Why? The beautifully decorated rooms give a very homey feeling.
