Kids to Go: the nicest children's cafes in the Netherlands, these are them!
Check out our laundry list of favorite cafés to enjoy with the kids in our home base of Amsterdam, and read along about the nice addresses throughout the rest of the country.
Abcoude
The beautiful Abcoude is located close to Amsterdam, just a 20-minute drive away. In any case, a good idea to drive there because from there you can reach the Vinkeveense plassen in no time, where Vrijhave Zwier is every child's outdoor play (and overnight stay) dream. Although we also go there for it Lindenhoff Café. There are many advantages there: the café is part of the Lindenhoff farm and being on a farm… Right. Animals. And that is fun and exciting. There is plenty to see and taste in the café and children are treated like royalty.
Blaricum
In the litter they are also kind to the small stuff. Everywhere, but Restaurant Bruis we like the best: the farm-style café has a gigantic playground, the menu seems made for children (but it is not, and we also like everything), and if the weather is bad, there is a real ' fun floor' and a discovery corner for the smallest children.
Haarlem
Amsterdam with children = Haarlem. That's just how it is. And Haarlem with children = Mister paprika. Read all about Mr. Paprika here. Would you rather get out of the center? It's also a good idea! New in Haarlem (or at least completely renovated) is the café van the Dolhuys (photo left). The Dolhuys is a museum – or actually: a cultural center as they say – and the museum café (with piano) has always been great with kids, but promises to become an even bigger party after the renovation. We will keep you informed (or go and see for yourself! Will you let us know what it was like?)
Let's go back to Het Gooi: it's also here cafe-restaurant Bulk: in Laren, on the heath. And we can tell you that is a great plus, not least because it ensures that there is a wonderful playground at Bulk. Admittedly, it is also a place where they sell frankfurter sandwiches, but let us say they love that. After all, it doesn't always have to be a carrot, right? It's a kind of Kraantje Lek, and that's a compliment.
Arnhem
Little Things is Arnhem is a children's shop with a small café, a bit like the Kleine Parade in Amsterdam, and it is, it must be said, really Very Nice!
Apeldoorn
The same applies to the cozy Schenkers in the city center of Apeldoorn. The thing is what you call clumsy, which we only mean positively. Cozy. Pleasant. Convivial. Old Dutch. Sweet. But in 2020 form: one portion hipness They are certainly not dirty from time to time. Schenkers is there for coffee, lunch and drinks. And it is definitely the place for your hipster shot latte art, also for the small stuff.

Eindhoven
De Kleine Berg is the coziest (shopping) street in the city and a great place to start the day. Bee Lucifer Coffee Roasters you get fresh coffee, a beautiful interior, delicious lunches and interesting reading material. That name? The first Dutch match factory used to be here - Eindhoven is not the city of light for nothing. Kleine Berg 47 is the place and the babyccino is already ready.
Breda
It's usually a mouth full In all things possible in Breda. Not surprising because we still haven't been able to discover a nicer and tastier lunchroom in the cozy city center. The children's chairs are almost standard at every table and everything is taken care of.

What exactly is Kids To Go? Simple. We at Barts Boekje, and the people behind it NaturNes Bio, are parents themselves and therefore our own target group. One writes about the best things to do with your little one, the other makes the best products for those same little ones. Of course we had to do something with that! And then of course you want to take something tasty with you for your child, such as a tasty, organic children's chip or a handy squeeze bag (it feels a little better than lollipops and fried chips with salt).
Amersfoort (NL)
First things first: If you are planning a trip to the beautiful historic city center of Amersfoort, only fifteen minutes from CS Utrecht, if you travel by train, you can Livingstone Coffee actually don't skip it. The coffee bar is hidden in one of the smaller streets of the city and has exactly that travel-loving, adventurous vibe vibe which the name already suggests. A huge map hangs prominently on the wall in the shop decorated with rusty corrugated iron - exciting to let the kids point out where they have been! But the map also shows where the coffee beans come from.
But then also store in the same city Croast not about: this is where children can really explore, play and meet their peers to their heart's content. There is a special one for that play area created, the Glass House. This room is equipped with all kinds of toys, a TV, a teepee tent, craft materials and even a race track! There is also a nanny in the house during dinner on Friday and Saturday: so you don't have to think about anything and you can enjoy a delicious dinner yourself!
It is in Utrecht city The Village Science Park exactly the kind of coffee shop where mom and dad and the kids like to go. The Village is already the main supplier of coffee in Utrecht (there are several branches in the city) and with the Science Park they have an extra large location in an ultra-high, blue building. It is intended for students, but secretly it is also a great place for coffee with the kids.
There is a shelter in the heart of the city, on the Oude Gracht The Coffee Bean, a small place with pancakes to say the least we fleek are. Party for young and old.
Taking the little ones with you? Do yourself a favor and go to it Miffy Museum. A little bigger? Hop! To it Railway Museum.
Get a breath of fresh air + look for space = Zeeland. We can write a book here on Kids To Go about incredibly fun places to go with the kids in Zeeland, and we will do that soon. Stay tuned! Would you like a tip of the veil? Okay, we have it: one of the nicest places in Zeeland is, surprise, not on the coast but in Walcheren, not far from Middelburg, and is called Hof Poppendamme. They call it an indoor playground, but that term barely covers the landing: Hof Poppendamme is a lovely and spacious café with a heck of a (giant!) terrace, plenty of play entertainment and a really good menu. The latter is not surprising because Hof Poppendamme is from the same owners of Honeypie, a great coffee and cake address in Goes and Middelburg.
Speaking of Middelburg… Children's cafe Het Lokaaltje is also a hell of a house number! In the city center you can shop from the nicest brands, play and drink lemonade. We'll be back.
Dordrecht
Dordrecht in South Holland has a surprising number of nice child-friendly restaurants. For example, do not miss Villa Augustus, a reason to drive to Dordrecht. This outdoor villa can be found on the edge of the city, but it also has good news in the heart of Dordt: No38 City Bakery. The bakery has been a household name in the city for years, but not long ago it had new owners and a makeover. New wallpaper, some accessories and a fresh look at the map. Fortunately, the friendly atmosphere remained. Just like the level of the cakes and other baked goods. Red Velvet among other things, carrot cake with a thick layer frosting of course, and an ordinary cake. Delicious. Everything from our own oven, just like the rest of the brunch and lunch menu.
The Hague
There would be no Best Of children's café list without De Boomhuttenclub in The Hague stands out above ground level: a large tree house with hanging bridges and soft green trees dressed as a breakfast and lunch shop where you can also have a drink.
Rotterdam
Amsterdam has the Vondelpark but Rotterdam has Het Park and you will find it in that beautiful park under the Euromast Parakeet, a park restaurant as it was intended, with Lots of Love for the littlest guests.
Or look for a babyccino from the best coffee makers in the city (Man with Glasses) children's café The Little Captain (the babyccino is of course without coffee, As usual). In the meantime, the kids are playing with Brio's train (a hit) and plenty of other fun toys. De Kleine Kapitein is also the place for the best (read-aloud) books and games. Zwolle
Ah, Zwolle, more than fun for a day and not least because of the nice parks here. Park de Wezenlanden or Wezenlanden Park, both are allowed, is the largest park in Zwolle and the perfect place for a beautiful spring day. The Overijssel Liberation Festival is celebrated every year and you can visit the new one for the rest of the year Park pavilion De Wezenlanden. The large shop in the middle of the park is beautiful all year round: in winter it is lovely to sit inside by the fireplace and in summer there is - of course - a gigantic terrace. Park Eekhout is a small, public walking park where various neighborhood activities are regularly organized that are accessible to everyone, from children's activities to food markets. If we park a little further, we arrive at park Nooterhof, a beautiful place for anyone who loves peace and greenery and for children it is a great place to play and discover nature! The park consists of a water playground and other play areas, an apiary, several ecologically managed gardens, bushes, trees and fields. And there is the special construction Teahouse Earthship, with a small amphitheater next to it.
Leeuwarden
At the end of 2019, the fresh Lazy Lemon opened in Leeuwarden, an all-day cafe where the beach style was adopted, supplemented with brightly colored cushions. There are toys everywhere, there are signs to get and there is even a private play area for the kids. And children's cinema evenings are organized at regular intervals for the slightly older little ones. It should come as no surprise that the menu also takes children into account.
That is also the case Can syringe, another kids café in the city. More industrial looks here and the café is pleasantly shielded from its urban environment: peace and quiet for both parents and passers-by.
