Kids to Stay: 3 x garden entertainment (but it is also possible on the balcony)
Who says you can't enjoy the sun in and around the house? You won't hear us say that! Are you crazy? Plenty to do. Hours of fun with these tips, while enjoying the great outdoors. Then they really deserve something tasty at the end of the day. We always add a bowl of Nutripops, a snack in the form of puffed grains with tomato or carrot that makes everyone happy. Sounds crazy, but once you have them in your hands, you will want nothing more than these organic children's 'chips' without salt and not fried - they are really delicious! Yes, spring is coming! The perfect time to make a project of The Vegetable Garden. Just in your own backyard or on the balcony. You can order a small 'garden' online at the (local) garden centre; they usually even have small versions of a glass greenhouse. It is fun and educational to dig in the sand together and play with seeds. We bet that your sprout will peek every morning to see if it is ready to be harvested? We are fans of the Easy Vegetable GardenGrowing your own vegetables and herbs doesn't get more foolproof than that.
We are not going to South Africa right now, but we dream about the land of the braai and decide that the barbecue season has just started here too. A little bit of sun? Out onto the balcony, into the garden or simply take up a piece of the sidewalk for a cozy mini-vacation at home. The little ones can get to work with the wooden ones themselves play barbecue from Lidl. The set comes complete with grilled vegetables, sausages and even sauces to top it all off. We already draw the little one in swimming trunks, shiny from sunscreen and in a children's apron from Dille & Kamille. Sweep us up.
When it's time to have a barbecue, and mom and dad have rolled up their sleeves (and a drink in hand), the kids will of course join in! A snack from the Nutripops can and when we sit down to the table, we combine the sausage from the BBQ with a jars of baby food. Baby food? Also for my toddler? Or toddler? Absolute! The soft sweet potato puree is incredibly tasty with fresh beans and works great as a sauce with a (vegetarian) sausage from the grill. Ours is a fan.
Making your own mini weather station is perfect for an afternoon in the garden or on the balcony: a rain gauge measures how much rain is falling (Hello Holland), a wind vane lets you know in which direction the wind is blowing and the sun is on your head. helps with a good mood ;-).
How do you make a rain gauge? All you need is an empty two-liter plastic bottle. You cut it off at a height of two-thirds. Turn the top part of the bottle upside down and place it in the bottom part. Just secure it with some adhesive tape and you're done. Using a ruler and a permanent marker, make a scale in centimeters on a piece of tape that you stick on the bottle. Place the meter in a spot where rain can reach it and from then on they can check the rain gauge every day at the same time. Empty it every day.
How do you make a weather vane? Cut a triangle from the cardboard. You use this to make the arrow and the tail of the weather vane by cutting off the top of the triangle (this gives you a smaller triangle (the arrow) and a pyramid without a top (the tail)).
Take a straw and cut a notch at each end. Push the top of the newly cut triangle onto one side of the straw and the other piece of cardboard onto the other side. Push both pieces of cardboard into the straw with the cut side. Push the tip of the skewer through the center of the straw. Draw a cross on the paper by drawing two lines from the top left to the bottom right and from the bottom left to the top right. Place the flower pot with the top down on the center of the paper. Draw a circle on the paper with a marker, tightly surrounding the flower pot. Make a hole in the center of the circle. Cut out the circle. Draw or write the cardinal directions (north, east, south and west) on the circle. Fill the flower pot with sand or soil and place the circle on top, with the cardinal directions facing up. Place the second straw in the hole in the pot with soil. Insert the skewer with the straw attached to it into the soil with the arrow in the straw. Place your weather vane in a windy spot. Check with a compass (often also on a smartphone) where north is. Look here for pictures, that helps!
