We are currently exploring the five houses of Getaway Deluxe’s creative, quintessentially Dutch, yet international-looking (because who knew we have such beautiful places in our own country?). You won't find more peace, space, and beauty in your own country. The eyes are certainly treated to the feast here, with houses made of steel, lots of glass, and natural materials: each a picture-perfect scene in its own way. Spacious seating areas, open fireplaces and hanging wood stoves, sun loungers on the veranda, projectors in every house—that kind of thing. And, depending on which house you rent, nice extras like a natural swimming pool, lake, sauna, or hot tub. That makes us (and the kids) very happy. Paulien and Arno, the founders of Getaway Deluxe, never sit still, and as of this month (June 2026), they have opened another new addition. Het Nest is now available for booking and, as we have come to expect, just as stunning.
You can always wake us up for a night at a Pillows Hotel. Apparently, we aren't the only ones who think so, because the (small) chain continues to grow. Luxury? Do you want luxury? Then Maurits at the Park is the place for you. go toEverything is large and spacious, classical music plays through the speakers, and the staff is impeccable—so friendly and professional (but without being stiff, which we don't like either). Soft carpets, Fabels & Feathers on your bed, and you have access to the Guest-Only lounge. Very nice to just unwindFor real unwind Of course you book something at the Urban Spa: a massage, treatment or hydromassage bed.
You definitely should bring the kids to this luxury hotel. They will be pampered just as much. Do call ahead regarding an extra bed. Fine dining Visiting VanOost might be asking a bit too much, but at Spring Café Brasserie they have a kids' menu and regularly organize small events especially for the little ones. There is a large and spacious terrace, making it ideal to combine with playing in the park or playground and then having a quick lunch at Spring on the terrace.
In the heart of the Veluwe, half hidden between the trees and surrounded by one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands, is The Weaver LodgeA magnificent hotel, small, charming, and with its own bistro. The Veluwe itself is special enough, but De Wever Lodge takes things even further. Everything here revolves around a love of nature, craftsmanship, and relaxation. All the greenery and beauty of the surrounding area has been brought indoors. Colors and materials define the atmosphere: soft, without the hype, completely zen and pure.

At Van der Valk Hotel de Cantharel In Apeldoorn you can do much more than just sleep. In fact, you barely have time to sleep because there are too many other things to do. You can fly over the Veluwe, watch films or sing very loudly (and out of tune) in private cinema rooms and the karaoke room, and eat delicious food at Bistro Martinus and Huisje James. Do you remember 'On land, at sea and in the air'? That one program that is (unfortunately) no longer on TV. Apparently they thought that was a shame with the Chanterelle too, because they have their own real life version posted. On land you can explore the Veluwe on E-Choppers, bicycles, in a horse tram or Land Rover (they also have electric children's ones). There is no sea on the Veluwe, but there are two swimming pools. One inside and one outside in the wellness garden, where you will also find the effervescent benches and sauna houses. Then the air. You don't fly like a Falcon, but in a hot air balloon. Hotel de Cantharel recently has its own version in which you as a guest can take a balloon flight over the Veluwe.
In the north of the Netherlands, near the German border, you will find chic Holtweijde a bit of the English Cotswolds on a thirteen acre estate. There are suites in different shapes and sizes and there is even a private country house (with a deer view), a tennis court, an indoor swimming pool, a Turkish steam bath, infrared sauna and a Finnish sauna, all equipped with that ultimate, un-Dutch romantic pampering and relaxation experience. feeling of withdrawal for a moment. The looks are a bit old-school and just how it goes (actually). Perfect to retreat for a while, but what about those kids? Ha! First of all, they can run outside to their heart's content, climb and yes, they can get dirty too: there is even a trampoline. Escape to the beach for a weekend. Sounds delicious, right? And especially if you go to one of the nicest hotels right (but literally) on the beach Beach hotel Cadzand-Bad. Cadzand-Bad? Of course! A great coastal town in our own country with the wonderfully relaxing atmosphere that comes with Knokke, a little further away, combined with the down-to-earth nature of the Netherlands. The best of both worlds and the wildly attractive Strandhotel forms it.

Have you always wanted to sleep in a real airplane, a large birdhouse, a giant ostrich or a gypsy wagon? Bee The Strange Bird In Vlaardingen they do exactly that. And yes, that is – of course – especially fun for little kids. But also really fun. However, the children's paradise called The Strange Bird is also a nice place for people aged 21+ to be. Parents can relax in a hammock (plenty of books and magazines to borrow) or on the (covered) terrace on the water. You can choose a record for the record player in your outdoor room at the LP lending center and in the shop you can shop for special items for your home. And yes, you can also go there without an overnight stay: De Strange Bird is open for lunch and drinks on Saturdays and Sundays. Oh yes, also really fun: you can do a real escape room with children from the age of 6. A little too exciting? There are also treasure hunts for the little ones.
Kids have it The Court in Heerenveen perhaps just as much fun as the parents. They are very welcome in the restaurant (with children's corner!) and in the hotel. There is even a nanny every Saturday. Can you enjoy the paths and avenues?
You will find 't Gerecht in the heart of the city centre, in a building which was previously used as a town hall, and later as a tax office. Vtoday a Boutique Hotel and restaurant. At first glance it appears to be a stately, but beautiful, building where everything breathes history. Inside, that stately and historic feeling continues, but in combination with luxury (in the right way). The restaurant is cozy, attractive and with a fireplace, and in the summer months the terrace is the place to people watch while having a drink.
Nice weather? Nice! Then know that the Netherlands has a number of great hotels and holiday homes with a swimming pool. And yes, also those places where the kids can splash around in the water to their heart's content.
A favorite, certainly for ourselves thanks to the beautiful location and the great restaurant, is Het Roode Koper estate in Ermelo. UnDutch luxury at the classic Het Roode Koper estate, in the middle of the Veluwe (remains impressive), or so we think. The estate may seem a bit stiff at first, for example when you visit the website. That old chic that may be nice, but is a bit out of date. Wrong! Moreover, they love kids and there is little we cannot do.

“We want to go here!” We bet the offspring exclaims exactly that when they see the pictures of Marenland. An attractive overnight stay in a real box bed, only a bit more modern. Don't blame them, we want nothing more than to fill the trunk. We cannot ignore the fact that there is a lot to see. Lots of light, fresh white, good chairs and we haven't even arrived at the room yet. Lots of fresh colors here, soft beds waiting to (sorry very not sorry) to be jumped on and sleep in a box bed. Party. Also for the kids. Furthermore, an ideal base for the Pieterpad, fun too.
The days at Marenland Finish off perfectly in the hotel's restaurant: De Jongens (in a beautifully lit greenhouse), where you will be embarrassingly spoiled with all kinds of tasty treats on your plate.
For the people in the back: yes, a more pricey hotel (or: expensive) is (sometimes/often) really worth it. For example, if you want to go out with the kids and let the baby monitor do its work. Is such a chic hotel necessarily the best for kids? Maybe not in terms of facilities, but it really is true that the more fancy the hotel is, the more willing the staff is to step up their game for the small stuff. As in Hotel de L'Europe, Amsterdam. Everything is possible here, from baby cots and goodies for the minis, to a star chef who won't turn a blind eye to a plate of freshly made baby food (or boring 'no sauce!' pasta for the toddler...). Although the main reason for a night at a beautiful hotel like Hotel de L'Europe, Amsterdam your own semi-date night Naturally. Baby monitor on and on the ground floor in one of the three - all three fantastic! – make restaurant reservations. Success assured!
(by the way, you can also use this trick at one of the other luxury hotels in Amsterdam, such as The Dylan, Pillows Maurits at the Park. Then Amstel Hotel and more of the same!)
De Kleine Wildenberg Farm, in the cozy village of Diepenveen in Overijssel. In the middle of the green, for an authentic farm atmosphere and a moment of pure happiness, this is your address. With cozy names such as t' Juffertje, De Klaproos, De Boterbloem, 't Kippenhok and 't Pegge-Huis it is nothing but cheerfulness and the place to be with kids: from cackling in 't Kippenhok to cooking together in 't Pegge-Huis and picking enough buttercups and poppies for a whole bunch. There is no shortage of outdoor adventures for the kids: from swinging in the playground, racing with go-karts, jumping on the trampoline to bubbling in the hot tub. Collect eggs from the chickens in the morning, feed the animals, pick fruit from their own orchard or taste everything from the vegetable garden. Here they know how to balance the real holiday feeling and being on the road with the kids. Parents can cook, eat out, have a city trip activities and drinks in the sun, while the little ones have plenty of space to play and romp. From a ball pit in the bedroom to an outdoor terrace and enormous dining table for the whole family. We are doing a happy dance for that!
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, centrally located and on the border of bustling Amsterdam East, is a perfect kid proof-hotel. Artis Zoo, the Wereldmuseum, the Amstel River, and the Hortus Botanicus are all within easy reach. The Hyatt is located in one of Amsterdam's most up-and-coming neighborhoods, with a great neighborhood feel, excellent restaurants and cafes nearby, and plenty of terraces to relax on. It's an ideal base for a business trip, city break, or family getaway, but also for a meeting or a lavish dinner at Mama Makan, the in-house restaurant. From relaxing in the spa and playing pool in the lounge to enjoying drinks at the bar or on the terrace, where you can sip botanical cocktails until the wee hours. The Hyatt Regency has it all—the perfect combination of city life, a bit of greenery, and relaxation.
Are we going to send you to Flevoland? To Flevoland?! Yes, but it is not without reason that we recommend this piece of reclaimed land. First of all, because it is a short drive from 020. And secondly; to Our Greenhouse. Because this bed & breakfast is simply insane. Unfortunately, it won't be for a while, because they will close their doors from October 22. As you hopefully expected, you will end up in the real greenhouse. Where the abundance of light ends up beautifully on the surfaces of a simple yet beautiful interior. Ceilings reaching into oblivion and nature from behind those windows that you can stare at for quite a few hours. In the summer you can make a splash in the swimming pool and all year round you can visit the catering greenhouse. You can indulge your culinary passion. And furthermore, it is mainly about stomping into the polder clay with the kids and romping in the area, because no matter how far you look: green. The perfect place where the kids really have some space. After all, the options for getting a breath of fresh air are fantastic. For the time being, the Onze Kas location remains empty. It is unclear what the future will bring, but staying overnight remains possible.
Relaxing for a weekend is Hotel Blooming in Bergen the place to be. In the quintessentially Dutch and oh-so-creative village of Bergen, near the beach, there is a rather un-Dutch nice hotel that is the place for conferences during the week (okay, that's not that fun, per se) and for relaxation at the weekend ( nice, much). Because dunes equals: rest. This becomes even better in the Hotel blooming room where the beds have wonderfully soft mattresses, the pillows are one by one (meters, gigantic, yes!) and where the large windows (ask for them) provide a view of the forest. Only trees around you. It couldn't be better. Oh, well: Hotel blooming has a large swimming pool and a cozy bar where bartender Marc pours embarrassingly full glasses, containing everything you could wish for. Plus points for the kids: the hotel is large, the restaurant has a good and nice kids' menu and the environment is one to run around in until they are exhausted.
Fancy a weekend getaway? That screams Texel (where there is always a lot to see and do). And presto, then it could suddenly happen that the ferry takes you within 20 minutes brings us to this special place with both feet. The place where it is pure and salty, the glory that the island life is called. With its beautiful vast nature stretching far into the distance and dunes, so beautiful that you forget for a moment that you are standing on Dutch soil. We love it. Just as much as we love Texel's silent pearls, those remote places to retreat to. On East is the name of our latest discovery in exactly that category. At this authentic Texel farmhouse with, let's face it: historic (sea)weed barn, you will immediately feel like you are in an oasis of peace. Plus culinary dining. And sleep like a baby. No no, we won't forget him: and just enjoy nature.
Looking for a cozy forest house with a lot of style, but child-proof? Stop your search. We have found it for you. And it's called: The Country House. This trendy country house is located on the Veluwe (which is large, so specifically: Otterlo). A sturdy wooden 'chalet' on the outside, nice and colorful on the inside. The interior is stunning (copy paste home please!) and has everything you need to enjoy with your family. Perfect kitchen island, romantic stove and wonderful beds? Check!
The Buitenhuis is part of Dream Park De Zanding, where there is plenty of entertainment for the kids. And you don't have to stand behind the stove every evening. You can enjoy Italian delicacies at the 'park restaurant' Sophia's Italian.
Perhaps the nicest hotel in the Netherlands. So who has never been there Villa August has been to Dordrecht, must (yes, must) get in the car, train or bike. Especially with the kids. Villa August is a playful restaurant/shop/vegetable garden/bakery/orchard/hotel where only pure, mainly home-grown ingredients are used. Would you like to spend the night here? Then you can sleep in the (secret) garden, water tower, water reservoir, office ship or boiler house. All rooms are different, beautifully decorated and child-proof.
You can sit down in the restaurant for a snack and a drink. The blackboards above the kitchen show starters and main courses, which change daily. From homemade pasta with mushrooms to steak with grilled vegetables. With a full belly you can then roll into your beautiful nest.

The Bedstay on 8 in Drenthe. If we find the most perfect staycation spot of the moment name, then this recently discovered place will pass by. There's a good chance you'll want to book him right away. Because duh, who isn't ready for a stay where fantastic culinary cooking is prepared (just for you). Yes YesAt Kookpub you arrive and your private chef may already be working for you in the kitchen. That's quite something, if you ask us. A delicious meal for the kids and a delicious snack and (large) glass of wine for the parents. In the morning, have a fresh breakfast, dive into the pool and then explore the neighborhood. This is possible in the garden of the Kookpub, but there is also plenty to do and discover in the area. After all, you are in Drenthe.
About an hour and a half from Rotterdam, an hour from Amsterdam and just over half an hour from Utrecht, you will find Hotel Mooi Veluwe. This family hotel is located in the middle of the woods about ten minutes from the city center of Putten. And that is exactly what we are looking for. Right? In the middle of the woods and yet plenty of entertainment in the area. Beautiful Veluwe is located in the woods. And how nice it is to wake up in the morning on your own terrace among the birdsong with a croissant and a book, including the option to opt for a package. Then you can make it your own 'staycation'.
Spend the night in the Safari Hotel? Yes, it's possible! In the Beekse Bergen they not only have a Safari Resort, but also a hotel! You have a view over the beautiful savannah and during your stay you get unlimited access to the safari park and play area. The associated restaurant is not great, but the pizzas are fine! Thanks to the nice atmosphere of the park, it gets a passing grade from us. South Africa for dummies, a country that we are hereby creating. In our case, certainly thanks to the African temperatures that complete the picture, but of course we can just think of that ourselves. Plus the kids think this location is perfect.
Can we make one more stand for the holiday parks in our own country? Because believe us, those parks have also kept up with the times! No no, forget those old bungalow parks of the past, where it might have been 'fun for the children', but where parents preferred to turn around as quickly as possible. You should go to Court of Saxony go, one of the most beautiful parks in our beautiful Netherlands. There, but also at all other Landal GreenParks locations, you sleep in the middle of nature. Yes. Whether you have a four, six or eight person house, everyone will sleep like a king. Sleeping in a green environment gives you energy, is good for your health and makes you happier. They say. We believe. Pure profit if you ask us.
Hip hip ahoy! Ever dreamed of sleeping on a cruise ship, but you don't like the open sea? It's possible ss Rotterdam (by WestCord). This cool place is in Rotterdam and everyone can go there! Also very cool - this ship used to serve as the flagship of the Holland America Line. Whether you are in love with history and shipping or are looking for a slightly different place to stay, then ss Rotterdam is for you. It gives a maritime experience and your kids will have a great time. During a tour you will see all corners of the ship and sail back in a time machine to New York and the Dutch Merchant Navy of the nineteenth century.
And hey, if you have kids, because they are more than welcome on the SS Rotterdam. There is even a baby bed for the little ones. There is plenty to do for the little ones: from flag treasure hunts and crafts to a full guided tour. The best part? The kids can even earn their own captain's diploma! So no excuses to leave them at home.
Hotel Katoen, in Goes. Of which the G is replaced by an H that must come from deep, the former chef of brasserie Appelmans (in Antwerp in 2015 one of the nicest, or at least most modern brasserie hotels in Zeeland) opened. The idea: Appelmans' (good) food supplemented with luxurious bedrooms in the former city archives of Goes. And so it happened. First the brasserie: large sandwiches with shrimp croquettes, toasted sandwiches, a classic carpaccio, tenderloin steak, scampi and Katoen's Stoverij. But also homemade lemonade and lots for the little ones: there is a more than cozy play corner, there are books, Cotton's own coloring pages and a jar of lollipops that can fit up to three children (impressive, that jar, even for parents!). You reach the hotel's 23 rooms via a modern concrete hall that connects the two buildings. The hall leads to a white staircase that takes you to the rooms, from regular bedrooms for two to luxury suites that can also accommodate a family for a few nights.
Never underestimate the power of a really good classic, do we need to explain that? And yes, it is really true that the pitfall with such a sincere classic is that it can be a case of 'faded glory'. And nobody likes faded glory. That's why you should separate the wheat from the chaff and/or just listen to us because although it may not look like a place for the very youngest audience, Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin Right on the Noordwijk beach, the 254-count hotel stole our hearts as soon as we entered: young people behind the counter who understand that the customer is king and that both boys and yappers are sacred. It's especially fun for those kids: those with a sweet tooth will receive treats in the form of a real surprise box with gifts for breakfast, there is always a sweet on hand at the reception and every restaurant in and in front of the hotel is equipped with the best kids' menus, apple juice with glitter straws and fast service for kids who are actually too tired and need to go into their basket.
Joe! Hotel Terworm Castle has stolen our hearts. Not super big, fun for the kids, super romantic... oh well. It is certainly a royal spectacle! The garden is in the French rococo style. Terworm Castle is within walking distance of the city of Heerlen. You can choose from rooms, each with their own theme. You have a baronial suite, gatekeeper suite or a beautiful court room. There is also a beautiful tower suite. This is really great for the kids. Sleeping in a real castle is every little boy's dream, right?
This really is a very special place to go. Hotel Gaia has 11 spacious rooms, all inspired by a different country, one more colorful and exotic than the other. For example, you can rest in Egypt and spend the night in Africa – we love it! The offspring of course also think this is the end and that's it Hotel Gaia definitely thought of that too. Rent a family room or a cot (€12,5 per night). Always a party. There is even a games room for the kids, so they won't be bored for a moment. The breakfast, which is delicious (fresh rolls and local products), is included.
Want to get away to a cozy house in Friesland? Holiday park Wyldepad is the place to enjoy yourself with the family. In the park you will find houses and yurts, a tepee-style camping corner for small items, luxury tents, flower paths between the houses. There are also family rooms at the Wyldepad holiday park. The nature and conviviality of Friesland make it extra fun! In Friesland you are always entertained by all the beauty around you.
Close to Paleis 't Loo you will find this sustainable accommodation in Kootwijkerbroek: The Wine Lodge. The Wine Lodge is close to the Apenheul - great for the kids. So you can plan enough days out to put a smile on their faces - secretly what we all want. The holiday home has a picnic area where you can also spend a day when the sun is shining. Can you already see it in your mind? The kids can play in the children's playground and garden while you make sandwiches. There is a quiet atmosphere in the wine lodge and there is a cozy fireplace that keeps everyone warm in these cold times. We say go go go!
At Bilderberg hotels you can not only sleep well, but also eat well. At Kasteel Vaalsbroek they serve culinary four-course dinners, at Wientjes in Zwolle you can also eat well as a vegetarian and at the Keizerskroon in Apeldoorn they cook for you as if you were an emperor yourself. Château Holtmühle in Tegelen even has two restaurants (enough rooms in such a castle); Die Alde Heerlickheijt and d'Orangerie. The menu mainly contains dishes from French cuisine with Limburg and Eastern influences. Would you rather get out of the hotel for a while? In any case, don't forget to join us at Het Bilderberg Breakfast in the morning. With a capital letter, because it is certainly extensive.
