Bistro Zacht Staal offers truly delicious food in nature, just outside Amsterdam.

We wrote about earlier Restaurant Soft Steel And by now everyone knows that is blissful. But would you like to join us for an evening in a somewhat more accessible bistro, where the kids can go in and out to play outside while you sit and enjoy a snack, bite, and drink. Then, in short, Bistro Zacht Staal is amazing. So, not to be confused with the restaurant: truly two different establishments, and both highly recommended.

By now, we know that a few years after opening, people have found their way to Zacht Staal. Usually for dinner in the Greenhouse: Restaurant Zacht Staal. If you ask us, that does the Bistro a disservice. The Bistro, a cozy wooden building with plenty of vintage furniture, is incredibly inviting for drinks, good food, and above all: lingering a bit.

The bistro is open for lunch and dinner, and here too, Kees Marius is in charge of the kitchen. Towards your table, honest c Dishes such as a meatball with spicy raisins, or how about grilled quail with warm bean salad and bell pepper salsa? But also surprising light starters such as zucchini flower salad with citrus fruits or tomato salad with burrata, tapenade with sun-dried tomatoes, and Taggiasche olives.

The menu changes every month, as the estate is used extensively and, logically, the cooking is done with products harvested here. There are also theme nights, such as movie nights, where you get a delicious, hearty meal with a cider for a nice price, while also enjoying a classic film.

For those who are hooked after their visit and want to bring country life into their home too, you can also order a fruit and vegetable box from the Rorik estate (where Zacht Staal is located). Available every week with pick-up locations in Amsterdam and Beverwijk. Great!
