Most favorite/nicest restaurants in Uluwatu, Bali
ohhh, how we love Indonesian food! Do you love nasi goreng, rendang, satay or just a whole rice table? In Bali they know all about it. And there are also hip hotspots where you can eat well and affordably. That's why we've made a list of our most favorite restaurants in Uluwatu. And the choice is huge: from local to Mexican, Japanese and Thai, and from completely vegan to special fitness cafes and also laid back hotspots full of handsome surfers. Reservations are usually made via Whatsapp, these numbers can often be found in the Instagram bio or on the website. Here we go...
Let's be honest, nothing beats a tasty fish from the BBQ grill or a plate full of fresh sushi (if you have a foliage are). Here are some nice spots with a Japanese twist.
At Yuki eat your Japanese dishes, in style. Yes, this is really a night out, which is why it is slightly more pricey compared to other restaurants in Uluwatu. From experience: order all yakitori served on your own mini grill. How nice is that. You can also eat really good sashimi and drink the tastiest cocktails with an interesting twist, such as the milky matcha. Yuki is the spot for an intimate date or a special occasion. Or simply because life is one big party. If it were up to us, we would be there from Monday to Sunday.
A little bit more low key Japanese food, but still a real night out, you can also enjoy Shaka Riki. We assure you that nowhere will you receive a warmer welcome than here. The sweet staff greets you in a row at the door, you get a towel that smells like fresh flowers and a warm miso soup to start with. And the concept of the menu: connecting the taste of island life of Japan, Bali and Hawaii. The chef uses traditional Japanese cooking methods with ingredients imported from Japan, combined with ingredients from Bali, infused with a Hawaiian vibe in the interior. Must order are their signature cocktails and the miso eggplant. Sometimes they also have a special mango menu – you'll want to order everything from there.
Sushi lovers pay attention. Bee Sushime eat your sushi as you hope. They are located in three different places: in Seminyak, Canggu and of course in Uluwatu. They have sushi, makis and an extensive range à la carte izakaya style dishes. Favorites are the sushi burritos, sushi donuts and the fried rice cakes with fresh tuna topping. Everything is gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian possible. Also great for take-out, if you want to stay on the beach or at your property.
Hidden above Bgin Beach is the hidden gem, Gooseberry. A spot where you can eat, relax and shop in the adjacent boutique where they of course sell their own lingerie, swimwear, jewelry and clothing line. You are welcome every day from 8.00 a.m. to 22.00 p.m. for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. They prepare everything with seasonal and fresh ingredients. They also have a cocktail menu, where all cocktails are prepared with an eye for detail. Dined out and shopped? Then plop down in one of the chairs by the pool.
If we had to pick one favorite this would probably be it Mason are. You've come to the right place if you're looking for something a little more fancy spot. An evening out for dinner where you can take your beautiful dress and shirt out of the closet. You don't have to, by the way, at Mison it is hip, but relaxed - and above all super atmospheric. For the wood-fired bar & grill menu it is in any case a must visit worth, just for the charcoal chicken, slow-cooked ribs, and the chopped broccoli salad . They also have plenty of delicious vegetarian options. Mason also has a location in Canggu, where the formal and casual looks score points.
Okay, we said Mason was the favorite, but can we name two? At Kala they serve dishes from the Greek cuisine, including a souvlaki and halloumi (with honey from the oven), for which we would come back. Here too an intimate setting, mood lighting, and the perfect date spot and also perfect for groups. On weekends there is a DJ, which makes the atmosphere even more cozy. By the way, start with the fresh flatbread with different dips, it is so delicious, but make sure you save room for all the goodies that come after. For dessert, the olive-shaped ice creams are also a must. Sounds crazy, but trust us, you don't want to miss this. Tip to make a reservation here, by the way, it is one of the more popular spots in Uluwatu.
Say no more, at Ulu Fishmarket eat your fresh fish (we often go for the local whitefish mahi mahi), fried/grilled with cajun spices/fried (choose yourself), with a sauce of your choice, and rice/potato or fresh vegetables. And next to that an extensive menu with sushi, fresh tartares and much more. The cocktails are also great here, and on Wednesday evenings and in the weekend there is often a live band. This is a place where you want to go every day, and on walk-ins there is often just room because there are many tables. It sits outside in a kind of open garden, and many cozy corners, so you don't notice that it is big. Ulu Fishmarket it is secretly also a big winner, and perfect from large groups to intimate dinners.
Bartolo is a wine bar that looks like it would be in Paris or Amsterdam (only with a tropical setting). The interior is classically French, with a lovely bar where you can start with a (finally!) good glass of wine. In terms of food, you think more of Italian, lamb meatballs, and delicious pastas. But also a good piece of meat, and for dessert cheese (you don't find much of this in Uluwatu). It's never that busy here, which surprises us, considering the looks and food this one is really high on our menu. Definitely a must-try if you're in Uluwatu. Also a must-try is their twist on the espresso martini with burned butter. So yummy!
An all-day hangout. You can completely relax here, from the atmosphere and the food. The name says it all, but at Son of a Baker eat fresher than fresher piadinas (with gluten-free option), focaccias in combination with eggs your way/fresh vegetables/salads and more. Trust us, these pastries hardly melt off your tongue. Also definitely try the banana bread. For the cappuccinos you can choose pumpkin seed milk, huh, crazy you think? Well, this is really tasty, and saves the environment a lot of water, since little is needed in the process, and apparently there are a lot of these seeds to be found on the island. From Thursday to Saturday you can also sit down for dinner here, and they serve the most delicious fresh pastas, wines and by the way a very good mocktail that tastes like a pornstar martini and is also served in this glass - for when you go alcohol-free for an evening but still want to order something festive.
We could live here. One of the places where you eat the purest, nothing processed, from breakfast to lunch and dinner. The 1,5 liter smoothies for after your workout are also definitely recommended, and we often go for the DIY (do it yourself) plates, of which a must-order is the seeded bread is. The staff treats every guest like family, and inside Analogue's evening often started with oldschool records on the player, of which you can already see part of the collection hanging on the wall. The café exudes real oldschool vibes, and in the courtyard you can also sit super cozy. If you come here for dinner, you actually want to order everything from the grill (the satay here is to die for), and here too you can put together your own plate based on veggies/carbs/protein and all homemade sauces and dressings. Also definitely try a cocktail or mocktail from the cocktail menu, because they make their own liqueurs here, such as the pandan vermouth, which gives a twist to the classic negroni. And for dessert – beetroot brownie of collagen snickers bar!
Tabu so. Once just a restaurant, now transformed into the one and only (first!) supper club of Uluwatu. Long dinners at beautiful tables, sushi to share, DJ present, and – if we are to believe the rumours – from around half past nine the first people dance on the table. Yep, not your average dinner.
The cuisine is Japanese (big sushi platters, yes!), but the interior makes you feel more like you’re in Tulum than in Bali (or Japan). Our tip? Put everything on the table so you can share it together – that’s really the concept here. And honestly: always a good idea.
No fuss, just delicious Italian food The Baracca. Favorite dishes here are the tuna tartare, and the pastas and pizzas (duh!). Are you gluten-free? No problem – the gluten-free pizza is just as delicious! The atmosphere at La Baracca is also spot on. Think lots of candlelight, wooden tables, and an intimate setting with the option of sitting inside or outside in the courtyard. Feeling like a party? Then roll on over to Il Salotto (next to La Baracca) or Tabu (if you really want to stay up late ;)). To get in the mood, you get a homemade limoncello or baileys shot at the end of the evening. Not your thing? No worries – for a quiet night out, this is also the perfect place.
By the way, they also have a location in Canggu, good to know for of fans among us.
Even though we are not in Italy, Italian cuisine remains one all time favorite. That is why there are also spots in Uluwatu where you can go for a good Italian bite.
On Tuesday evenings we dance salsa the Rolling Fork. Roberta Valentino cooks real Italian (fresh) dishes with natural and high-quality products with love and passion. Don't feel like pasta? Then come around 9 o'clock, then it starts salsa night, and you can leave the hustle and bustle of the day behind you and show how flexible your hips are. By the way, it's good to mention: no experience needed. There are two teachers at the front of the floor moves occur, and then it's just a matter of fake it till you make it. After the salsa dance, the DJ takes a seat behind the turntable and probably plays your favorite reggaeton record.
Fresher than fresher pastries, you want them all (but definitely order the walnut bun), super sweet service, hip interior, air conditioning inside and here also an inner garden. They also serve all kinds of special coffees here, one even with soft serve ice cream.
Definitely on the list this one.
At La Bamba is it a party every day, in terms of coziness. This spot is open daily from 07:30 to 23:00 in the evening. You can go there in the morning for a cup of coffee and a well-filled smoothie bowl. In the evening you go here for the pizza (nights) or for a fresh pasta, and it is more than cozy here. On Saturday it is Reggaeton night, so then you can dance.
At Satu you arrive in a kind of Italian trattoria. A spot where you feel for a moment that you are in Italy instead of the Indonesian island of Bali. At Satu they all serve individual dishes, for yourself or to eat share. You put together your own plate, just what you feel like. The choice is huge, from fresh salads, special vegetable dishes to pastas right in front of you in the display case at the entrance. Prefer something fresh, take your time because the menu is huge, and incredibly tasty. You can sit in the cozy courtyard, where you get a real holiday feeling, or just inside - in the open space.
On to places where you check if you are looking for a good cup of coffee, handsome surfers or a vegetarian menu.
This is the kind of place where you get exactly what you expect, good coffee and... pastries. We're talking about The Bakery. They also bake their own sourdough breads and are known for the best cinnamon rolls in Bali. They are open every day at 06:00 am, seven days a week. Your four-legged friend is also very welcome, it is pet-friendly.
For a healthy meal, go to Nourish. They have a café, pizzeria and a small supermarket. They are open daily from 07:00 AM to 22:30 PM. In addition to their spots in Uluwatu and Ungasan, they also have a location in Canggu, Berawa. Want to get rid of some emails? You can also enjoy working there. In addition, they also have live music evenings.
A big favorite The Loft. Yes, the name says it all, it is a huge loft where you can enjoy a healthy meal and a good cup of coffee. The portions here are great, the atmosphere is nice and... feels like home. Our favorite spot is sitting on one of the large, sink-in-the-wall sofas. Although they are quickly occupied. At the Loft you can also get rid of your emails with a coconut or fresh one juice, and be sure to order it here protein bowl bee. This is one must-order. Or put together your own dish, so you can throw all your favorite gadgets together. Tip from Flip – the waffles are delicious.
At Alchemy you can go for fresh and nutritious meals. They are constantly busy with the world, or yes, everything is organic, vegan and climate-friendly. The menu is therefore completely plant-based and gluten-free. The kind of place where you hang out all day, from breakfast, lunch to dinner. If you really have to do some serious work, or you have meetings, go that way on time and get one of the ten places in the air-conditioned workspace. But even if you don't have to work, you actually want to go here every day for the juice bar, breakfast bar, salad bar, fresh pizzas from the pizza oven and the creme de la creme: the ice cream corner where you can make your own healthy version. of a McFlurry (or at least that's what it looks like because of all the toppings). Or order something from the normal menu – every dish is also the right choice. Sitting next to Alchemy Arabica, by far the best spot for coffee in Uluwatu.
And on… On one cliff, with spectacular views over the ocean Mana Restaurant & Pool. You can hang out by the pool all day on one of the daybeds for 11,70, which you can spend on food and drinks. In between you can take a splash in the large swimming pool, hang out on the pool edge with a (virgin) cocktail, and it is also one of the better sunset spots from Uluwatu. You go up a flight of stairs at the swimming pool, then you enter the restaurant where you can work during the day with a nice breeze - and eat in the evening while looking at that beautiful sunset. On Fridays it is mainly a party here, because then the incrowd from Uluwatu here for the 1+1 wine and beer free-mi-bo deal sunset.
At Cashew Tree you can go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You are welcome from 07:30 to 10:00 in the evening. It is especially nice here on Thursday evening, the live music evening with plenty of dancing. So get those hips rolling. The place is laid back and the little ones are also welcome. They even have some playground equipment. Don't feel like going out? They can also deliver it to your home or wherever you hang out.
Let us introduce you to the modern, vibrant, Australian-style cafe Suka. You come here for (really) good coffee, healthy fresh food and... good vibes. You can eat good burgers, pasta and also lots of tasty dishes from the grill. They also have a very extensive drinks menu and in the evening you can join them candlelight dinner. On a budget, and would you like a nice cocktail? Then go there between 16:00 PM and 19:00 PM and order one of the selected cocktails for 3,50.
At Ulu Garden it's all about pure and healthy food and drinks. This store is run by Belgian Virginie and Armi, a versatile local artist. The menu consists of contemporary flavors, inspired by local seasonal products. As the name suggests, this spot is located in a large courtyard. Besides the fact that you can work relaxed, there are also workshops and many events such as markets and Article exhibitions. It is festive, because of the live music and concerts that are held there.
Il Salotto, a well-known name in Bali. This spot was founded by four Italian friends and now has four restaurants on the island. They bring Rome, Manhattan and London together. A go-to for large groups and also the perfect spot for one date night in the candlelit courtyard. To be on the safe side, reservations are a good idea. They are open daily from 15:30 PM and continue until the late hours. Are you ready for a night out? Then after dinner you go to the club Tabu, and come back to Il Salotto for the after party.
Just outside Uluwatu Center, in the Ungasan area, you will find Suburbia Café. It is a small, open retro warehouse, with seating upstairs and downstairs. The atmosphere is super relaxed, and there is a good draft. We prefer the morning and afternoon at Suburbia, although they also serve dinner there. On the menu there is something for everyone. From sandwiches to salads and pasta or risottos. The owner also hangs around for a chat. We were told that the truffle licious benedict was one must order is. There are also sockets everywhere, if you want to do some work. Please note, Suburbia is located along a busy road, so if you really need full concentration, this may not be the one place to be. Although we would recommend making a quick pit stop, even if it is for the good coffee and caramel shortbread.
Besides the fact that you can sleep in one of the bungalows or villas, this is one of the most special places to eat. We're talking about Mû bungalows, with sea views, the most beautiful sunset place ever. You can go there seven days a week, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. But you especially want to be here for dinner, and then you join us around 18:00 PM so that you can have a drink while watching the sunset. You won't get more romantic than here. For dinner you can order fresh fish from the grill, grilled on the BBQ side dishes. Or you can order a pasta or Indonesian dish from the menu. At Mû they are at home in all markets. We don't want to spoil the surprise completely, but we can assure you that you will go here for dessert, even if you are not normally a dessert person.
What's on the menu? Facebook? Three guesses. Chicken of course. Here you can eat cheap chicken dishes, curries, pad Thais and more. It's there cozy and very (very) low key, so feel free to come in your bikini and sarong, and always good. Would you rather pick up? That's possible. Too tired to leave your hotel? That is also possible, Pok Pok will deliver it to you via Gojek. This is possible at almost all restaurants in Uluwatu, and delivery does not cost a fortune. Nice and easy.
Besides the fact that we fan If you enjoy all the tasty treats, there is plenty to do in Uluwatu. We have a list of places you want to go. Voilà .
