These are the most beautiful beaches on São Vicente, Cape Verde

The most famous beach of São Vicente is Laginha Beach: a city beach within walking distance of the center of Mindelo, with clear water, cheerful beach bars and locals who swim their laps there every day. But São Vicente has more, much more. For those who really want to get to know the island and are looking for a bit more space, peace or roughness: these are the beaches you want to go to.

On the northeast coast of São Vicente lies salamansa, a small village where surfers feel right at home. The wide beach is raw, windy and loved by locals who catch their waves here.

Don't expect beach beds, parasols or trendy beach tents here, this is back to basics. But the view? It's one that immediately calms you down.

Please note: the sea here is much more powerful than at Mindelo, so be careful when entering the water.

Small tip: bring your own snacks and water, because there is little to nothing to be found around the beach. And that is exactly what makes it so nice. Still really hungry? A few minutes walk away is The Creperie Chez Zoé – and yes, it is worth it.

Ask locals where they go on Sundays and you'll often get the same answer: Baia das GatasThis sheltered bay is the ideal place to spend a day baking, swimming in the natural pool and chilling out.

In addition, swimming in the sea here is safe thanks to the shallow water and the absence of high waves, which is not the case everywhere on the island.

Bonuses: anyone who is roasting here in the bay has a view of the distant Santa Luzia, an uninhabited Cape Verdean island.

For those who speak a few words of Portuguese, the name says it all Big beach already a lot: the beach is big. And impressive.

This beach on the east coast is a lot less known due to its remote location, but it is definitely worth a visit. Think endless sand, strong waves and not a soul in sight, unless you meet a lost tourist walking along the surf from Calhau to Baia das Gatas walks. A place for those who love space, wind in your hair and nature without a filter.

Note: due to the remote location and the lack of other people around you, you are also somewhat more vulnerable to robbers. So don't go to this beach alone, but go out with a group.
