The nicest restaurants in Maastricht (for dinner)
In Maastricht you will feel like you are in the Valhalla of Burgundian food. We don't mind, on the contrary. Because nowhere can you dine better than in Maastricht. We already have Barts Booklet tips for a trip to Limburg (so this list will probably be similar), but for those who are just looking for a restaurant (we don't blame you) this list. These are the best restaurants in Maastricht.
And if you really want the best tips on your lap, then buy one here the book we made in collaboration with Loods 5: Maastricht
Who during a getaway in Maastricht wants to move with the times, these days join us fine dining restaurant and wine bar Wy, in the heart of the Jekerkwartier. Or does that, also in the Jekerkwartier, at Bar Beurre, another hip spot. But anyone who wants to lead the way, head first, reserves as fast as lightning at The Bon Vivant. This business may not be located in the Jekerkwartier, but in an equally special location… Hidden beneath the bustling streets of Maastricht, in a beautiful vaulted cellar, just off the beaten track. Le Bon Vivant: most literal 'hidden gemsin Maastricht.
At Figo, you eat the very best of a classic Tavern, but with a modern twist. That means traditional dishes with a twist and classic wine In abundance. The menu lets you choose from antipasti, fresh pastas, hearty risottos, and delicious meat and fish dishes. What exactly? Here it comes: barbecued red snapper or picanha with asparagus, celeriac purée, white wine jus, and sage—finger-licking good. The interior? Stylish with plenty of hints of the 70s. Just as nice is the terrace, where you can sip the most delicious Aperol around the evening sun. Just like a holiday.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, you choose exactly what you are in the mood for, while on Friday and Saturday you put together your own three-, four-, or five-course dinner from the menu. Bon appetite!
You can choose a 3-, 4-, or 5-course menu every day, and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays also 'à la carte'.

The Maastricht hospitality list – with all our hotspot tips – is one you always want to keep at hand. Why? In the south of our country, the hospitality industry is celebrating its heyday. The Burgundian sauce is poured over the restaurants with love and pleasure and the choice is huge in this food walhalla. Here it is: Restaurant Wy. Just just just below Le Bon Vivant the hottest news in town. Close call because it is accessible fine dining restaurant and wine bar in a lovely spot in Maastricht. The type of restaurant that is good for every occasion: from a lazy Sunday afternoon drink to a real night out to celebrate god-knows-what. Come join us. Read all about Wy Maastricht here
No, no, not a cafe or a restaurant, but a place with small dishes on the menu that remind you a bit of summer holidays. But not to be confused with tapas: at Luster You can enjoy, among other things, Thai steak tartare with Thai basil-ponzo vinaigrette, Laos mayo, and gyoza chips, or wagyu dumplings with mustard-soy sauce, chives, and sesame, and a refined tuna tataki with soy-yuzu gel, jalapeño, and avocado. Or a bavette with wild mushrooms and dashi beurre blanc. And we haven't even mentioned the desserts yet. Is your mouth watering yet? Don't forget to look around and up every now and then: the restaurant has a glass roof, and the olive tree gives the Mediterranean garden that summery holiday feeling, even when the sun isn't shining. Is it shining? Then you also have the lovely terrace!
Nice, Maastricht, but for many people this city is not around the corner. And if you don't have your own car, a day in Maastricht is a challenge. Wrong!
In comes the shared car! Ideal, especially when you want to go to the southern city with a few people (it's so much more fun, together in the car). You can read all about this perfect solution (believe us, we've been doing it ourselves for years) on startmetdelen.nl.
Car sharing indeed: a car that you share with others, and you only pay when you use the car. Ideal for those who, say, do not need a car more than a few times a month or even less. Or sometimes every week, and then again for months. For that one trip to that one unmissable weekend tip, or a bigger car so that you can take all your friends along. Especially outside the city, where public transport does not or hardly ever go. And no, that is no hassle, such a shared car… A travel hack, that's it. Just read: Sharing is caring: this is why we are fans of car sharing
Once a real family restaurant with traditional French cuisine (hence the name) My friends – what 'my friends' means in French), since 2018 a fine dining A restaurant entirely dedicated to delicious Limburg wines. Enjoy multiple courses or opt for the Total Experience: an extensive menu with matching wines from Dutch and Belgian Limburg. Everything is seasonal, meaning the menu changes regularly. The wine list was curated by oenologist Annaline and the menu by her son, patron-chef Patriek. Daughter Germaine is also involved and ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes – so it remains a family restaurant. Looking for something extra special? The family also organizes unique pop-up concepts, such as Wine restaurant on the land, where you eat just as well and drink just as good wine, but right in the middle of the vines.
With a dot at number one an approche française: Le Fernand, Café Manger. As the name suggests, the owner is called Fernand and you can breathe the French way here. Le Fernand, Café Manger is tiny, overlooks the old bishop's mill and is located in one of the nicest streets - the Koestraat/Stenenbrug - in Maastricht. So you imagine yourself directly in a region very romantic in somewhere l'Hexagone (nickname for France, Yes Yes). Sound through the speakers songs and on the menu only delicious French wines. Now all that – and the eyes of the handsome bartender – contributes to a nice ambiance, but we would especially like to recommend this for the food. Because that's real here very delicious. Camembert au four, s, canard confit, terrine de foie gras, frog legs, you want it all. The products are farm-fresh, go for a great price and if you can't choose, we recommend the lush chef's carte blanche menu .
Walk into Wyck, navigate to BIKKE, and suddenly Scandinavia is closer than you thought. BIKKE is a restobar inspired by Scandinavian cuisine. Not that we eat that every day, but we really should. The menu features delicious smørrebrød and eggs Norwegian, but you can also eat sweets there. cinnamon buns for lunch. BIKKE have it allIn the evening, the menu turns into a feast of the new nordic kitchen, where seasonal products are combined in surprising ways. Delicious with one of the matching wines or a creative non-alcoholic option. Inside, it is warm, cozy, and stylish, partly due to the character of the historic building. Outside on the terrace, it is a pleasant place to be, with sun in the morning and afternoon. A dinner (or lunch) that is just a little different from your standard fare – we like.
Whether it is the concept of this restaurant that blows us away, or the exceptionally good cuisine. More often than not it is not a perfect balance, but rather one or the other that takes the cake. Bee Tab if not, here is both the concept and the dinner to write home about. Or what should we say, special enough to travel to Maastricht for. Which is of course not a punishment in itself, but with the young (and also promising) Onglet you will certainly start or end your trip to the Limburg capital incredibly well. There, closer to the Belgian border, the Burgundian blood is already starting to flow... Onglet Maastricht is located in the old butcher's shop in the Wyck neighborhood (you don't pronounce it as 'Wijck' but as 'Wieck', just before the good order). And the common thread for all their dishes is meat. John That will have nothing to do with the location.
A bit Dutch, a touch Oceanic, and a hint of Asian. Right in the heart of the bustling Sphinx Quarter in Maastricht sits NOVO New Dining. A restaurant where you should take a look just for the modern design.
But be sure to also take a seat at the rooftop bar, at the wine bar with a chilled wine cellar, at the beer bar, and oh yes, there is a dessert bar. In the restaurant, you have the choice of the NOVO experience (5-course menu) or the SPHINX experience (3-course menu).
It's on our list Harry's Restaurant not missing. Why not? Shamelessly eat and drink in a comfortable, informal, but old-chic setting. Located in a monumental building on the elegant Wycker Brugstraat in the Wyck district - also known as the 'Little Parisof Maastricht. Harry's is an international brasserie with timeless dishes, made with the best ingredients. The best? Yes, the best, from the local area. Refined flavor combinations are created with these ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons, so there are new dishes on the menu every week.
From the outside, it looks cozy and lively, and inside it is just as stylish and inviting. The interior exudes class, thanks to the high ceilings, white tablecloths, and long curtains. Once you have paid a visit, you will want to come back often. Extensive dining, a pleasant lunch or breakfast, good value, and a friendly atmosphere. That is Harry's.
You will find a trendy pizza & pasta bar on the picturesque Koestraat TomatoThe place is small and therefore fills up quickly: tiny tables for two against the long wall bench (no velvet this time, kudos for that) on one side and some separate tables for larger groups on the other. What stands out immediately is the large open kitchen, which makes the little place constantly buzz with life. The fresh yellow lemons, the 1.5-liter bottles of San Pellegrino, and the homemade limoncello greet you with their radiant smiles.
We can't actually choose between the different pizzas and pastas (try them yourself), but be sure to save room for dessert with a good cup of coffee. Add a glass of bubbles and you'll feel like you're in Italy.
While Maastricht is a historic city, one of the city's most iconic and historic things should not be forgotten: The Tribunal (reopened its doors in August 2022). A new look, old atmosphere, new owners, the same family. The café has been open for over 60 years now, 6 days a week (Sunday is a day of rest), just a stone's throw from the Vrijthof. You go there for… well, actually for any time of day and with any company. Because De Tribunal is just that kind of great café.
Restaurant Gio's Cucina has been around in Maastricht for years, but that doesn't make the restaurant any less of a favorite. What's called, it's top notch, and just as good every day (which of course distinguishes a really top store from the rest). Hidden in the shadow of St. Servatius on the Vrijthof in the heart of Maastricht. Exactly yes, at the well-known Vrijthof, a place that we tend to skip rather than explore when it comes to restaurants, as we are convinced that a central (= touristic) place cannot be good. Many readers of this site certainly think so. That's okay: more room for us at Restaurant Gio's Cucina. The menu features classics from Italian cuisine and a surprise here and there. The service is no surprise: it is more than cordial and always excellent. Just like the wines, by the way.
Vrijthof 29A, Maastricht
If we stay in Maastricht in Italy for a while, we also have to talk about it Chic Boiling PointA bit of a strange name perhaps, but there are few places where the love for Italian cuisine and Italian wines is so great. The place is pleasantly unpretentious: here it is all about pasta and pasta alone (or no, not only, but mostly) and not about your dining companion's polished shoes. Nice for a change, too. The restaurant's interior has recently been completely revamped, making it just that little bit extra cozy and hip again.
Okay, just one more then, but after that we’ll stop raving about the Italian restaurants in Maastricht (although we wouldn’t necessarily bet on it). At Toscanella Apuana weren't they necessarily the formal and casual looks of the place we fell in love with (although it is secretly very cozy), but definitely the food. We are still dreaming of the scallops – they are that good. Although we certainly don't want to shortchange the ravioli in doing so…
Tuur Maastricht So we find a really nice, relatively new one in Maastricht, and here to stayFor really good food, without the hassle, and at a great price. What's on the menu today might be different tomorrow, but one thing is certain: everything is fresh.
From afar you can see the Spanish flag fluttering on the facade. Cafe Madrid is the place to get a taste of Spain – Yes, tapas! – and experience the Spanish cordiality and warmth in Maastricht. How about patatas bravas and jamón serrano? Let's!
The small place quickly fills up with a pleasant atmosphere. That makes no surprise, as delicious tapas make our hearts beat faster too. Reservations are recommended. must, provided you want to be assured of a (nice) table. Spanish background music contributes to the cozy atmosphere and really gives you the feeling of being in Spain. Café Madrid uses as many Spanish products as possible to serve classics – such as tortillas, albondigas, and gambas al pil pil. A drink goes with every bite. Sangria blanca is a must, but other Spanish wines taste delicious too. Health!
Hide out NOON Maastricht is a pearl on the Maas. Starting with the location, because: hello, the nicest district of Wyck and a beautiful view! That the restaurant is in former second area of the club Complex is almost impossible to imagine. The interior - with a herringbone floor, black accents and a cool mural - is hip, modern and confident Instagrammable. From the terrace you can enjoy a unique, panoramic view over the 'Buenos Aires' from Maastricht. The menu consists of shard dining of European and Asian cuisine with a slight twist. What can you expect? Unusual dishes that are fresh, flavorful, and not too expensive. Oh, and you're also in the right place for a cocktail. In the late hours, NOON Maastricht serves as a lounge with cocktails and bites.
Simple and French? That must be a bistro! And a bistro it is. But not just any one. Simple, yes. But not in a not-quite-card way. No, one of those where you sit down casually and let the chef do his thing. Where you are pampered and where your evening goes too fast, but at the same time wonderfully slow. Enjoy. You don't have to cross the border for the French bistro, just make a stop in your own country.
Well... Don't the photos say enough? Bee SOFA we want to be all day long. The name says it all, it's just like a sofa, as if you can sink into it. SOFA stands for hospitality in an atmospheric and cozy setting. There aren't actually any soft sofas, but you get the idea; this is how we feel here. At SOFA Maastricht, you can enjoy a delicious lunch or a multi-course dinner. The restaurant is situated next to a castle in a beautiful nature reserve, near the marina and the floodplains of the Meuse. It is definitely worth a visit anyway, as we can easily combine it with a lovely walk. At SOFA, 'pure products' are served; always with fresh and responsibly sourced ingredients. They don't reveal much more: 'let yourself be surprised,' reads the invitation.
Restaurant Studio In Maastricht, this is one of those places where – just by briefly checking the menu online – you already know it’s going to be good. Moreover, there is a nice story behind restaurant Studio as well. The owner of Studio is none other than Gilbert von Berg, whom we already know as the head chef of Chateau Neercanne. After working for over 15 years under and with master chefs such as Huub Biro, Hans van Wolde, and Hans Snijders, Gilbert became head chef at Chateau Neercanne, but still harbored the desire to one day start his own restaurant. However, the location had to be exactly right: small, intimate, cozy, and with plenty of interaction between the kitchen and the guest. After a long search with his cousin and business partner Sander Verhoeven of 't Wycker Cabinet, this unique mix was found right in the heart of the Wyck city center. And just like that, restaurant Studio was born. And we are impressed. Studio serves contemporary cuisine with an eye for detail and balance, and everything is inspired as much as possible by the seasons and international flavors. Consequently, a fixed menu is served. On weekdays, in addition to the 5-, 6-, 7-, or 8-course menu, you can also opt for a 5-course lunch in the afternoon (hehe, please act a bit normal, yeah). Besides the fixed menu, there is a vegetarian menu. You can indicate your preferences when making a reservation.
Yes of course! Café ChiekAlways. Otherwise, you haven't really been to Maastricht. There is actually nothing we don't like here, and we have felt that way for quite a while. And it's not just us: I think Café Sjiek is (rightfully) the most beloved spot in the city. That's down to everything: from the striking line drawings on glassware (a little figure sucking her wine glass dry to the last drop), plates (licking is allowed), the menu, business cards (iech vin diech sjiek), and even the coffee biscuit with the coffee says 'sjiek keukske'. The café itself is how a café should be: entering through a heavy curtain, immediately bumping into the bar, and then walking through to the back where there are more seats. The staff are seasoned professionals and don't let themselves get flustered (but are friendly at all times). In case you were thinking… Then the food must be disappointing… WRONG! Mega-super delicious. From the fancy oysters to the local sour meat. Not going is a shame, actually. Whether you want to have a beer or wine, have lunch, or sit down in the evening for a homemade chic fish of the moment.
restaurant 55 – you pronounce it the English way: restaurant 'fifty fifty'. This name is indeed inspired by the 50/50 principle. A beautiful balance between coziness and culinary enjoyment, that is the intention. From what we see, this is certainly true: a fine restaurant located in a characteristic, monumental building in the heart of Maastricht, combining subtle Baroque touches with warm, modern influences. And that is exactly what can be found in the kitchen as well. The kitchen works seasonally, enhanced by modern techniques and fresh flavors. Best of all (in our opinion) is that there is a daily changing menu. Every day, they look at what is at its best at the time of year and which products are top fresh and of good quality. We do love surprises (after all, that way it never gets boring) and you are certainly well seated here, in the beautiful interior or at one of the cute little tables outside. We like.
A few years ago, everyone (we’ve always hated the term 'everyone' a bit, because did you say it? Your mother? Your grandpa?) was shouting that the Wyck district was the place to be. That’s where the party was/is. And yes, really, the neighborhood is still nice in terms of great bars and restaurants, but let’s stop that blustering for a moment. However, a fine spot did open up there for the carnivores among us: Steakhouse Carnal. Hip (well-known) atmosphere, large portions, attractive prices – just great.
This handsome place promises a trek along the coastline of Southern Europe. Enjoying dishes from Turkish, Greek, Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese cuisine. And nothing could be further from the truth. On the menu, which is perfect for sharing, you will find tzatziki from Greece, Spanish pinxtos, and Portuguese petiscos. And although experience shows that restaurants with expertise in one specific area are the tastiest, we make for Taverna La Vaca a very welcome exception. Because everything that appears on your plate is so delicious.
You might be wondering (just like we did at first): what is Persian food actually? Well, that is the cuisine of IranAnd you see far too little of that in the Netherlands, which is actually a shame. Persian cuisine uses a lot of rice (often fluffy steamed with a crispy base, tahdig), an enormous amount of fresh herbs and spices such as saffron, turmeric, and dried lime, and meat that is slow-cooked until it is butter-soft. Stews play a major role, but don't expect a standard stew: the flavors are often surprising, with a beautiful mix of savory, sour, and sometimes even a subtle sweetness. Oh yes, speaking of sweetness: they can match the desserts Farèn You should definitely make that too. After all, you finish a good meal with something sweet, right?
A contemporary bistro as it was meant to be in a city meant for French bistros. Not far from the classic of classics in Maastricht (Café Sjiek of course) opened not so long ago Bistro CroquantIn a residential neighborhood that is worth taking a detour for. 10 points for the ambiance, but that’s not all: Bistro Croquant initially started out as, yes indeed, a croquette bar. Or actually: croquettes. Deep-fried ragout snacks at a culinary level. Well, that’s just what we’ve got, isn’t it? A vegetable curry croquette, a chicory and aged cheese croquette, and a venison croquette. But there is also beef stew and a creamy truffle risotto on the menu. Anyway, a place after our own heart.
In the summer, you can enjoy yourself at JEF Gastrobar on the incredibly cozy mini-terrace with just a few tables. Inside, it is just as pleasant to sit, mind you: modern and sleek, but with a generous dose of (Burgundian) conviviality in the restaurant, which feels intimate. Round wooden tables take center stage, and that is exactly what we love. You can pull up a chair here for dinner on Mondays (unique!) or from Thursday through Sunday – with lunch also available on weekends. You really will want to. The dishes are, after all, delectable. The Tastes of JEF Favorites menu consists of a three- to six-course menu, with (naturally) wine pairings available. In addition, they also serve a complete vegetarian menu. A few favorites? What we tasted was more than delicious. Add to that the fact that the service is extremely friendly and fun, there is good value for money & (we’ll mention it again…) it is very nicely situated: then you know you’ve found a gem.
