Wy in Maastricht: fine dining and wine bar, a win-win combination

The Maastricht hospitality list – with aaaaal of our hotspot tips – is one that you always want to keep at hand. Why? In the south of our country, the hospitality industry is celebrating its heyday. The Burgundian sauce is poured over the restaurants with love and pleasure, which makes life here a little bit nicer than elsewhere in the country. The choice is enormous in this food walhalla, so we are happy to give you good suggestions for restaurant tips. Hereby: Restaurant Wy. An accessible fine dining restaurant and wine bar in a wonderful location in our oh so beloved Maastricht. The type of restaurant that is good for every occasion: from a lazy Sunday afternoon drink to a real night out to celebrate god-knows-what. So there is nothing more to do, except visit and join in. You can always go to restaurant Wy.

Downtown the Jekerkwartier - where the French joie de vivre comes to life in our Dutch country - lies restaurant Wy. Between the centuries-old city walls in the sensational Jekerkwartier, owners Ylja and Wouter managed to get their hands on a gem of a building. Hot off the press, with an opening date at the end of 2024, but already something to write home about. With a wealth of experience (we subtly mention the star restaurants they have worked in here because they don't brag about it) they have created their own fine dining restaurant with wine bar. After three months of intensive renovation, thinking about the menu and trying out a lot, Wy was born.

Intimate with its 16 covers, where personal attention – without it becoming too much, if you know what we mean – goes hand in hand with delicious food. The reception in the wine bar is accompanied by oyster slurping, paired with a full vintage cava. Then you've got us: classic at its best. Finished the bubbly? Take a seat in the back of the stylish restaurant: crawl through, sneak past the open kitchen and voilà. The set table is ready for you. No standard 3-, 4- or 5-course menu here, no way: you choose what you like and determine the order yourself. Freedom, happiness. The menu can vary per day, quality with regard to ingredients is paramount of course, so a welcome surprise awaits you here.

Only delicious things

What was served to us? Amuses on a 'stone' from the Jekerkwartier, sourdough bread from bakery Koos in Valkenburg (of course with Wouter's own recipe), steak tartare with oyster (finger-licking good) and brioche combined with mushroom, Madeira and black truffle. The flavours are delicious and a special shout out to the accompanying sauces. Of course, all that culinary excellence goes together with good glasses of wine and do you want tasting glasses just like us? Even better, you can taste more. Ha. So be smart. Michelin pays attention because a new kid in town has presented itself. Nowhere can you dine better than in Maastricht and Wy proves that.

In short: are you in Maastricht and are you wondering where to go for a good glass of wine or dinner? At Wy you are always in the right place. Book in time: despite the restaurant's short opening hours, it is climbing the popularity ladder. A good sign.
