The best restaurants in Arosa Lenzerheide: lunch on the slopes and dinner
There is a reason why we are invariably back on our skis half an hour later after lunch in Switzerland than anywhere else. A quick bite is almost impossible here. Feel free to take an hour in Arosa Lenzerheide, partly thanks to the cremeschnitte (a Swiss classic of puff pastry with a thick, creamy layer of vanilla cream in between).
For while in some ski resorts you wolf down your lunch standing up at a self-service counter, dining on the mountain in Arosa Lenzerheide is an activity in itself. Small, warm, wooden restaurants with terraces where you want to linger for hours. And that is precisely the problem: 225 kilometers of slopes and two ski areas are also waiting for you. Fortunately for you, the restaurants are just as good in the evening, so you don't have to choose. These are the best restaurants on and along the slopes in Arosa Lenzerheide.
What else to do in Arosa Lenzerheide? A lot! We made an extensive guide here.
Alp Nova
It is located at around 2.000 meters and is exactly what you want halfway through a ski day. Graubündner and Swiss specialties, local products, and a sun terrace. Go there for lunch, not for a quick bite. The cordon bleu here was phenomenal.
Motta Hut
On the east side of Lenzerheide and the more upscale option. Here you'll find delicious flammkuchen, fine wines, a hearty salad, and of course the cremeschnitte: the specialty and best described as a kind of next-level cream puff. It took us roughly an hour to get our skis back on after this cremeschnitte. But man, it was delicious. There is also a bar with a serious wine list and champagne, should the day turn out that way.
Alp Stätz
The place to be after night skiing. Cheese fondue à discretion, which means: eat as much as you want, because the pot keeps coming. Add some good wine and you're all set. Combine this with the Friday nights when the Proschieri and Stätzerhorn lifts are open until 22:00 PM, and your evening is made.
June Hut
Our favorite discovery on this side. A tiny, centuries-old hut beneath Piz Scalottas at over 2.200 meters, which stood empty for years and was known in the village as the “ghost hut” until it was renovated in 2007. Now you sit among the wooden beams enjoying macaroni and cheese, Bündner pizokels, or a cheese fondue. As authentic as it gets, and with a terrace that takes in the entire mountain panorama. Small, so making a reservation is highly recommended.
Piz Scalottas
The mountain restaurant at 2.323 meters, accessible by chairlift via Val Sporz and Tgantieni, and offering a panorama over the entire Lenzerheide plateau. It is great for children (there are children's menus and plenty to do) and it is the starting point for a whole range of slopes.
Kuhstall Schamuela
Exactly what the name promises: a former cowshed transformed into a mountain restaurant, right in the middle of the ski area. Modern on the inside, rustic on the outside, and the kind of place that makes architecture lovers just as happy as hungry skiers. One of the newer additions and immediately one of the nicest.
Rothorn peak
Panoramic restaurant at the very top at 2.865 meters, the highest point of the ski area. Not necessarily for the menu, but this is where you want to go for the view and a coffee or a glass of wine on the roof of the area.
Wanner Bar (Wanner Hütte)
At the bottom of the Heimberg descent, small, and with a roof that they have converted into a sun terrace. A regular haunt for quite a few guests.
Mountain restaurant Tgantieni
Stays open in the evening, which means it's also your spot for dinner on the mountain. Hike there or take the sled back down.
Saddle hut
At 2.401 meters and frankly best described as: aifach SchwiizRustic, warm, Swiss wine, views on all sides. The Sattelbar outside if the weather cooperates, inside if it doesn't. The burger here is exactly what you want after a morning of full throttle. And the lentil curry is delicious too.
360° panoramic restaurant Weisshorngipfel
At 2.653 meters, next to the mountain station of the Weisshornbahn, and with glass walls that bring the entire panorama inside. On a clear day, you look out over hundreds of peaks and the city of Chur. The menu features Bündner specialties (barley soup, capuns, maluns) and a wine list specifically focused on Graubünden. But the real secret lies in the Gipfelbäckerei: cakes, pastries, and yes indeed, crème schnitten. On some days, you can also have breakfast or dinner here, including an evening ride on the cable car.
Hörnlihütte
On top of the Hörnligrat, at 2.511 meters, built by the ski club in 1923 and now one of the busiest and most beloved spots in the area. No-nonsense regional cuisine, a cozy Schanfigger Stube indoors, and a sun terrace with a view of the mountain ridge traversed by the Urdenbahn. Call ahead for a table, as it fills up fast.
Carmennahütte
The hut with the deck chairs. The atmosphere is great, the terrace catches the sun, and it is the logical starting point for après-ski in the Munggaloch. If you want to make one last stop in the afternoon before heading down, this is it.
Tschuggenhütte
There is always something going on here. Large sun terrace, sun loungers, music, and the kind of place where lunch seamlessly turns into an afternoon. It is also easily walkable from the village via the Tschuggenweg, so it is enjoyable for non-skiers in the group as well.
Isblaatere
On the Präschtli valley run and probably the coziest of them all. Small, wooden, warm. Exactly where you want to crawl into when it's grey outside and your legs are giving out.
Chillihutta
In Lenzerheide, right on the slopes between the Stätzertäli and Stätzerhorn lifts. Here, Thommy does what a good après-ski hut is supposed to do every day: loud, warm, and with the Bünder cinnamon liqueur that was invented right here. The homemade chili is awesome (spoiler: we thought we were being served a sweet shot, but ended up with something that tasted more like a tomato shot with a dash of Tabasco, interesting).
KuhBar
On the Arosa side and the beating heart of après-ski in all of Arosa Lenzerheide. Larger than the Chillihütta, busier, and with a reputation that extends far beyond the slopes: some guests travel specifically for the KuhBar without ever stepping onto a ski. Famous après-ski artists perform here regularly, and since the renovation in 2023, it is a beautiful wooden structure with an imposing cow's head inside as a focal point. After a day on the Arosa slopes, this is the logical final destination, and we won't judge you if it is earlier in the day.
The breeze
The Tschuggen Grand Hotel is the absolute top of the region. Chef Marco Campanella cooks here only during the winter season and holds two Michelin stars and 18 Gault&Millau points. There is a classic inspiration menu featuring fish and meat, and a fully plant-based menu (Moving Mountains).
artist in Hotel Prätschli
By German star chef Tristan Brandt and leaning more towards a bistro atmosphere: a three to five-course menu in the evening or à la carte, Swiss products in surprising combinations, and a wine list featuring many small producers.
The Waldhotel Arosa
Houses the famous Kachelofa-Stübli, for years one of the mainstays in the top of the Swiss guide. The hotel has recently switched to a new culinary concept (7050 – inspired by the Alps).
Arosa Kulm Hotel
Here are two very different options that both score well: Ahaan Thai (yes, really: excellent Thai cuisine at 1.800 meters, and surprisingly enough exactly what you want after three days of cheese) and Muntanella for the Alpine classics.
And then there is the bar of Hotel Altein, the nearest Alchemilla Parlour Bar, where you want to end the evening.
Guarda Val
In Sporz, the gastronomic destination is on this side: an old Maiensäss hamlet converted into a hotel, with a gourmet restaurant that has been a top contender for years.
Restaurant & Bar Spescha (Hotel Lenzerhorn)
Located centrally in the village and is the reliable option: Bündner specialties, classic meats, good products, and a terrace when the sun cooperates. The same hotel also houses the Garden (Mediterranean, with a double entrecôte as the crowd favorite) and a private fondue estübli that you can rent for a group of five to twelve.
PRIVÀ Alpine Lodge it feels relaxed and modern, and is a nice middle ground if you don't want to be in a Michelin-star atmosphere but also not on the tourist menu. And in the Valbella Resort It has the Italian restaurant, the local restaurant with adults-only areas, and that buffet. And the tiramisu martini at the bar. That remains our recommendation.
Good to know: From Opening hours vary per cabin. Most close their kitchens around four or four-thirty. And Mountain huts for people over twenty are accessible on foot. You don't have to be a skier to eat well here. With more than 60 kilometers of winter hiking trails and the chairlifts, you can get anywhere.
