Barts Best of: nicest restaurants in Den Bosch
Den Bosch: mini Amsterdam, Burgundian and a bit hip. The capital of Brabant, and the only home of the well-known chocolate ball (you have to have the one from Banketbakkerij Jan de Groot, near the central station). High time for an update with the best restaurants in Den Bosch, for your Burgundian weekend away.
While it was quite quiet for a while regarding new hospitality venues in Den Bosch, it now seems (finally!) that things are happening again. We are delighted by the arrival of Restaurant Park on Kolperstraat. In the building formerly occupied by Visch, the owners of Buurt have opened this new bar and restaurant. Low-key, a great place to hang out, lunch, dinner—another nice and easy concept. If you can't find us this coming weekend, you now know where we’ll be hanging out.
The menu mainly features comfort food as it was meant to be, but next level. There is a bar bites menu with simple dishes like cauliflower buffalo wings, cheesy onion rings, and bagel lox sliders. Okay, that doesn't sound *that* simple after all.
Next up are hearty lunch classics and dinner dishes you just want to order: from a Reuben sandwich and crawfish roll to steak tartare, miso cod, and a double smashburger. And just when you think you're done, grab that truffle mac 'n cheese as a side and finish with a boozy milkshake. Can't wait!
A knife to our throat for the best restaurant in 's-Hertogenbosch? Faran! A young team, unique dishes, and a small and cozy restaurant. End is such a fine dining restaurant that we hope never leaves Den Bosch. They serve a culinary dinner from the Nikkei kitchen? Out of the wattus? Nikkei cuisine originated when Japanese emigrated to South America. They brought Japanese techniques, cooking methods and product knowledge with them, creating new dishes. For Faran, it mainly means that mixing cultures produces something special. They stand out in the city and that's why you want to be there
There are several seats by the open kitchen so you can see where and how your food is prepared while you dine. And the price-quality ratio here is top-notch. For a 4-course menu, you pay between forty and fifty euros, a 5-course menu is slightly more, and the wine pairing will set you back between 30 and 40 euros. You are guaranteed a real night out here, and you have the enthusiastic team to thank for that. Good news: there is now a bistro too!
The beloved Benjamin. By now, when thinking of the better restaurants in Den Bosch, this is the first place that comes to mind. On Kerkstraat, owner Chiel had one goal: to distinguish himself on a national level through his wines. And anyone who stocks top wines knows that the food cannot lag behind. At Benjamin, everything revolves around the highest level: no fixed menus, but plenty of snacks, starters, main courses, and desserts. And lots of wine – but no wine pairings.
And that name, Benjamin? Chiel is the youngest at home, the Benjamin of the family. But of course it is also a nod to the city: the restaurant is located at the foot of the Sint Jan, and Benjamin was the youngest, the naughtiest, the naughty one in the Bible.
Benjamin is open from Wednesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. On Sunday it's all about lunch - a long, relaxed lunch that starts a little later, continues wonderfully, but is finished in time for Studio Sport.
Okay, you have to go to Hilvarenbeek for it. But if there is one restaurant where you want to make a reservation this summer, it is Erloom. Erloom? What? Well, Erloom is *the* one. farm to table, head to tail, fine dining Outdoor and seasonal restaurant that has the heart of our Barts Boekje. On this page, you will find all our tips from our own soil, with tips on where the food comes from., from the farm and the farmers to what happens before the food is on your table.
In a nutshell: from May through September, you can visit Hilvarenbeek in Brabant for a picturesque outdoor setting (farmhouse wedding style, only without a couple, but with nothing but good people and like-minded individuals at the table). From Friday through Sunday, prominent, often well-known chefs from both home and abroad (!) cook lunch and dinner. Their assignment: source your ingredients from local farmers and cook on-site over an open fire. Andddd: good luck! It will come as no surprise that the result is the most amazing lunches and dinners. It is an all-inclusive experience for a fixed price, including a unique menu, careful beverage pairing, and table water (lunch €99, dinner €129), all in tune with nature.
jaaaa all-time favorite Pizza Beppe came to Den Bosch! You come to Hinthamerstraat for authentic Neapolitan pizza. The pizza restaurant, located in the old building of chicken restaurant Vrienden, seats 88 people. And why another pizzeria in town? Well, Pizza Beppe was the first to receive the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana seal of approval. This promotes and protects traditional Neapolitan pizza, ensuring, for example, that San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte are used. Delicious!
The menu isn't extensive, with twenty pizzas and a handful of desserts and starters, but the dough is handmade. We are curious about the Beppe Tuna Deluxe with caviar.
Oh so nice: the cheese fondue restaurant Melt in the Korte Putstraat. They've already pulled off the feat of creating the best cheese fondue in the city in Amsterdam, but since their roots lie in the South, Den Bosch had to be included. And so, Smelt Den Bosch opened its doors in the middle of Korte Putstraat, where Tapperij de Keyzerin is still located.
They have a good wine and of course the French (favorite 2), Swiss (favorite 1) and Truffle, Dutch and Italian (favorite 3, 4 and 5) cheese fondue. And they have tasty things to go with it. And we can go on like this for a while, because a fan of this cheese paradise? Yes, indeed.
When you have almost finished your meal, the friendly staff will stop by to tell you about it The nun. No, we're not going to tell you what it is, just find out for yourself.
Also nice for a (hangover) lunch!
Always good and always fun: NomNom. At a Y-junction in the nice Uilenburg district, in the same corner as THIS, is the nice place: restaurant NomNom. Yes... the name already reveals that you can enjoy it (#nomnomnom, dude). That's right: NomNom's eclectic menu has something for everyone, but healthy, in tapas format. The tapas changes daily and the dishes cost between €3 and 15 euros. They are happy to explain the rules of the menu to you: “You order a few of these tapas, eat them, and then again, and again. Until you can't say “NomNom” anymore.”
Hast? The little sister, Fifty/Fifty, has tacos & salads to go!
Hip, hipper, hippest: Den Bosch is no longer inferior to Amsterdam. Where it looks a little less slick, but where you want to lick your fingers while eating, is at Aunt Wonnie. Fa waka! On the Hinthamerstraat you will find the best Surinamese dishes listed. Here you don't get the feeling that you are sipping wine among the yuppies, but rather the idea that you are eating outside on a street in Suriname. Roti, pom, moksi and spekkoek are the absolute favorites.
And all the goodies that can be ordered here are also available on a sandwich. Bring on that Surinamese lunch.
Nice interior, nice hidden courtyard and the friendliest staff? Nul73 at Torenstraat 9, right opposite Sint-Jan, is a must. On the menu you will find our personal favorite: the Pizza “Yellowfin Tuna with crème fraîche, avocado, ponzu cream, wakame and tomasu spicy soy. Hopefully they will have it again next time, because the menu changes regularly. In any case, it is certain that they have many vegan and vegan options.
The terrace at the front also expanded relatively recently. In any case, it only became more pleasant and pleasant. Nul73 is a regular for lunch, high tea and (Shared) dining.
DIT is fun. And THIS is delicious. And THIS is fun and THIS has been a favorite for a long time! In the center of Den Bosch, in the Snellestraat to be precise, this is a classic case of 'particularly nice tent'. And sure, it is. The service is always up for a chat and relaxed. The menu is written with a wink and is even fun for the kids.
Not so long ago they also added the other side. De Overkant is DIT's neighbor across the street and a place where you can have a nice drink without having to shout. A café where you can look from the stands to see who is coming or going. From drinks for large groups to silent disco and beer tastings, things get even more wild here.
Enjoy a tasty meal at the hip place Eetbar de Stadt. From early in the morning until late at night, you can go here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But you can also have a drink with cocktails. The best thing to do is to browse through the bar & street food menu that is out of this world (even the vegans are out of this world) and which features the tastiest hot and cold Asian street food snacks. You can order these until midnight on weekends, especially for late snackers. Recommendations are fries rendang and gyozas. Sunny? The terrace is great for people spotting.
Pascale, we are so happy that you are back. Together with her husband she ran restaurant Le Couple in Ridderstraat for fourteen years. After the death of her husband, she started working at Visch and the golf course in Sint Michielsgestel, among others. But Pascale is back in the Den Bosch catering industry, with her own bistro bar.
Aan Tafel bij Fagel is an intimate bar where cheese is the main focus. And she knows that cheese all too well. She even participated in a cheese competition, where you have to know details about different cheeses blindly. The bistro's cheeses come from Kaasaffineurs Van Tricht and Kaasmakerij de Oudwijker. The second preference is for pâté, which she has been making herself all her life. The pate can also be found on the menu, as well as the many secret recipes that her family knows. Think of escargots according to her father's recipe. Every day, with the exception of Tuesday, a maximum of twenty guests can visit from noon to eight o'clock.
If anyone proves that there can really be a casual atmosphere in a bistro bar, it is one hundred percent certainly Pascale.
They can do tricks with vegetables at a restaurant pollevieWhile many restaurants simply use vegetables as garnish, at Pollevie they take center stage. This doesn't mean they're entirely vegetarian, though they certainly do that well; meat and fish are also available. Traditional fermentation techniques are central to the menu. And after ten years in the Paleiskwartier, they're embarking on a new path: Pollevie – Bar & Kitchen is now Pollevie – Bistro à Vin.
Still featuring vegetables, but with a revamped menu, more conscious choices, and a welcoming atmosphere. A good piece of meat or fish? That's possible, but only if they know where it comes from. Prefer plant-based or alcohol-free? Just as welcome.
One of the favorites of many residents of Den Bosch. This place, restaurant NEIGHBORHOOD in Den Bosch, is exactly what the name promises: a wonderful neighborhood hangout. Nothing more and nothing less, but the right way. The terrace of Buurt is remarkably spacious with a wide view (read: good for people watching) and has long hours of sun. Buurt serves everything: from small pizzas to share into burgers.
At some hip places in-town you can't necessarily eat the very best, but you can have the very best drinks. Bee Hello My Friend In the pleasant Uilenburg district it is fun all day long. The Friday afternoon drinks are going on and they regularly organize events. Hello My Friend. Wherever the Friday afternoon drinks are going on? At the Union en Cafe Herman.
Secret Bar & Kitchen is ideal for when we want something stronger than a beer or a glass of wine. Cocktails it is. More than 30 cocktails and if you let us know your taste preference, they will conjure up something beautiful for you. Cocktails with bites and parties in the evening. Secret
Is the sun shining? Bee Stronghold you are sitting in the sun. Also delicious? The Aperol Spritz here. Stronghold.
Since this summer, Fret has been located in the cozy Postelstraat. A handsome eatery in the style of a classic bistro in combination with Scandinavian minimalism and a raw Berlin edge. An atmosphere that has caught on because it has been pleasantly busy since the opening, both inside and on the terrace. Linger from early morning with Overnight Oats of scrambled (no) eggs until lunch and in the evening with tempeh satay, a rich burger or stuffed eggplant. Or all day with a vegan cocktail, cauliflower wings or plant-based bitterballen on the side. Tried and tested: the one thing on the menu that you absolutely cannot miss is the Fret Burger from Redefine Meat. Described in one word: fantastic. Described in several words: such a tasty burger, made 100% plant-based and tasting like real traditional meat. Made with a 3D printer (the Fret girls found that exciting), but in terms of texture, smell, juiciness and taste, in our opinion, 10 points.
Back to the Tramkade, to the same corner where Costa del Silo is located in the summer. Better known as the industrial one hangout from Den Bosch. Barkade is the hotspot for your date night. 'Play like you did in the 80's or 90's', is the motto. Especially with arcades from all over the world. So first have a cocktail or wine at the bar. Then the table was full of dishes from South-East Asia and then on to the arcade hall.
That is slightly different from a standard dinner. And oh yes, in the summer you can watch the boats from the terrace.
Hoppa, off to the Muntel. One of the most popular and pleasant neighborhoods of Den Bosch. A bit of a walk from the center, but for La Cocotte it is more than worth it. The dishes of Casserole have their origins in the area around the Mediterranean Sea. Arabic mezze, tagines from Morocco, falafel and hummus from the Middle East, but also tapas from Spain and pizzas from Italy. Every day, owner and chef Aziz goes to his regular addresses in the neighborhood and to the market to do some shopping. From Wednesday to Sunday from 17 p.m., Aziz and his wife are Samira.
Also nice: the cooking workshops they organize there.
Another one in the Muntel, because it is so nice and cozy among the students. Amici Vicini is an Italian restaurant with excellent pizza. About a ten-minute walk from the market in the center and you're there. The menu includes pasta, the tastiest pizzas and meat and fish dishes.
You will find it a little bit out of the direction of the center Chez Minee, on the Orthenseweg A nice place for a group, a group of friends, colleagues or family. With many vegetarian dishes and a colorful, but tasteful and simple interior, it is fun for just about everyone. At the French bistro there are dishes to share on the menu and there is pleasant music in the background. Your day starts here with a freshly baked croissant and can end with a delicious cheese board. In between there is also a bitterbal and dinner.
At Chez Minée you have lunch or dinner and say 'oh, that was fun'.
Wine comes first, but food is part of it. So they kill two birds with one stone. Wine at Stijn So, the wine bar in the Kruisstraat is more than nice. The snacks are more than tasty and the wines better than good. Right, we want to be here. Even if only for the nice personal advice. Also the place in Den Bosch for a High Wine.
The garage in Den Bosch is where we want to hang out. Aka, the stubborn “Non-Italian Italian”. You will find this nice spot in an old garage from the 1930s on the edge of the Bosche city center. Owners of the fresh meal formula 'Oven on, come on', chose to settle in the physical restaurant with an Italian twist. The result? Inside, as mentioned, it is quite cozy, with just the right atmosphere. Everything, the entire interior, was inspired by luxury cars from the thirties - after all, we are still in a former Ford garage. Nice: you look out over Het Bossche Broek.
Stupid... Very often, we forget Barbu. Maybe because there are not a lot of restaurants nearby or maybe because it is a bit more expensive. And the fact that we sometimes skip Barbu is secretly a shame. Every time we are there, Barbu continues to surprise us positively. Delicious dishes with surprising interpretations of French cuisine and excellent wines. It can be seen from outside, but when the sun shines, you can enjoy the best food at the back of the garden.
We regularly have a drink inside Sipping. The place for lunch, drinks or dinner, in the heart of the city center. A Restobar and the good combination of bar and restaurant. In the open kitchen the chefs cook simply, but with an original twist. Add an extensive wine list and you have a good evening.
The spot in front of the window is the nicest here for an evening peek.
Sometimes we want or have to move on. After all, Den Bosch has so much more to offer. For a quick bite, these restaurants are the right place for you:
- Ramen brothers: for a quick ramen
- Bar35: a burger before going out
- Farm food for pancake cravings
- You have to look for it at 't Stokpaardje, but the sandwich bar at the back is great
- Kakelclub: The chicken burger here is everything you need and more
You sleep at a boutique hotel 't Keershuys in the Bossche Lepelstraat, one of the (very) nicest streets in Den Bosch. A good start, because it is definitely the perfect base in the center of the city. The hotel has a wonderful bistro where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or a Burgundian drink. When the weather is nice, you can sit perfectly on the terrace. What's cooking? Well, quite a few: from a classic tournedos with pepper sauce to a poke bowl with salmon. Be sure to take the 4-course surprise menu. That's not on the menu, but ask for it and the kitchen will cook it for you. In front of our noses were tuna sashimi, prawn tempura, a tournedos with pepper sauce (a must here, the family recipe has been around for three generations) and finally a delicious scroppino with ice cream and tiramisu. All too delicious.
Is it full? It's always fun at the neighbors, Eetcafé De Stip.
At Pizza Bar Deeg Den Bosch they have passion for Team Building! A lovely fresh place in the centre of Den Bosch where a pizza tweepuntnil comes on the blank wooden tables. The dough of the pizzas is made of flour straight from Italy. You can choose from spelt dough, wheat dough and the normal white dough.
There is a pink factory on the edge of the city center of Den Bosch WerkWarenHuis. Also in the same corner as Barkade and Costa del Silo. That WerkWarenHuis is the home of Social Label, a club that ensures that people with a social disadvantage can work together with professionals such as established designers and creative producers to… well, to make beautiful things above all. Restaurant Van Aken is also located within the pink walls of the Social Label concept store, where these lovingly crafted products are sold. There is also plenty of room for healthy, original meals here. They call it a 'stubborn, worldly cuisine', with a menu that changes every week. But if people want a sandwich, they get it, a Lebanese version. In Den Bosch at the weekend? After dinner on Saturday and Sunday, the volume knob is turned up and the feet are allowed off the floor. You will find the WerkWarenHuis on the Tramkade three steps from Central Station and the old Den Bosch favorite, the Verkadefabriek.
If you are looking for the Den Bosch 'talk of the town', you know, one of those trendy places that got a lot of shouting about, then you should definitely go to The SHOEGE in Den Bosch. The building where restaurants 't Misverstant, brasserie Méprise and Vrielink were located for many years was extensively renovated and when the doors opened again in May 2019, there was the warm The SHOEGE. Weird name? Not too bad: this comes from the Yiddish concept of 'sjoege', which means 'to have an understanding of something'. And that is because the owners gained quite a bit of catering experience in the city. Do you know Pappenheimers? We find dishes from all over the world on the surprising menu. Slightly more expensive, but you have a nice view of the street.
One of the nicest and tastiest in Den Bosch comes from what we already love Wine at Stijn: The Fishwife. It should come as no surprise what you are presented with here… Right. The fresh fish are chilled on ice in the fish market for your choosing, the staff is looking forward to it (and how!) and the wines are something to write home about. That's what we are from Het Viswijf. It's a shame that it is sometimes a bit quiet, but the food is simply good.
In the old sanatorium of the demolished Groot Ziekengasthuis on the edge of Den Bosch is the Mariapaviljoen, a café-restaurant from the same owner as Eetbar DIT (also in Den Bosch, an all-time favorite and you can feel that it is from the same owner. to everything. Only good). The Maria Pavilion is located a bit further away between the parking garage there and the Arena, so yes, you do have to look for it. But it's worth it. The pavilion has a large and nice terrace decorated as, well, as a beach actually, exactly that atmosphere that you normally find at the seaside. Inside, the business consists of several small rooms (which you can also rent privately). Everything inspired by an old school hospital – a not-so-subtle reference to the building's former zoning plan.
And of course the always busy one Yalla Yalla Food Bar. The fact that it is always busy is also the only disadvantage of the restaurant. The tables are close together and it is sometimes very noisy. But hey, the shared dining with dishes from the Middle East makes up for a lot.
Pinky promise that there will be a list of the best coffee shops. Here are some very nice ones:
- Fortin: best coffee in town.
- Drab: or is the best coffee served at Drab?
- CoffeeLab: a day of flexible working at CoffeeLab not only sounds attractive, it is also very nice.
- Anne & Max: always good to work (and have lunch) is Anne & Max.
- In the fast street aka one of the streets of the Brabant capital Den Bosch Cream Coffee & Pastry.
