Back to the twenties in industrial Rookburgh of Phantasialand, Germany

A theme park that is fun for adults and children? Does that exist? Yes. After visiting Phantasialand in German Brühl this is completely clear why. A tip of the veil: the roller coasters are incredible, everywhere throughout the park you will find good coffee, fresh dishes (but also fries and pancakes for the kids), terraces as if you were on an exotic holiday (with accompanying drinks). Certainly fun for the little ones, but the dads/moms/grandfathers/grandmothers are definitely not left out here.

In Phantasialand you will find six themed worlds that have all been developed down to the last detail. You can walk from Berlin to Africa and from Mexico to China Town. You will sleep in one of the three unique themed hotels (not only a wonderful place to sleep, but also to eat and drink). Took a nap? Then you can walk straight into the park and you can always go back to your room. Very nice, because after the River Quest, where you (Been there, done that..) doesn't come out dry, put on something else.. Go Feng Shui at Asian hotel Ling Bao, go on safari at Afrikaans Hotel Matamba or choose the brand new Charles Lindbergh Hotel in the Rookburgh theme world. There you go back to the era of the aviation pioneers, but in style.

You will be completely drawn into the theme worlds not only by the interior and decoration, but also by the food and drinks, the music, the costumes and the attractions. The park is designed in such a way that you can easily walk through it in one day, but a long weekend is slightly better, because you have plenty of time to explore the various bars, take aways, restaurants and terraces (oh and the outdoor swimming pool and Mandala Spa by Ling Bao, those are also there).

Each hotel has its own high-class theme restaurant. For example, you can eat crocodiles from the BBQ in the Deep in Africa theme world, too many delicious dishes to mention in the five Asian kitchens of the Food Market in the China Town theme world and artisanal, fair food, such as smoked burgers, in Rookburgh. The drinks have also been adapted to this and the choice is huge. We said it before: everything has been thought out down to the last detail.

Rookburgh

Rookburgh

But hey, we're focusing on the newest member of the Phantasialand family: Rookburgh. Think of white steam rising from the streets, Peaky Blinders-esque costumes and the pounding of machines echoing through the park. You sleep in it Charles Lindbergh (a well-known aviation pioneer from the 1920s) Hotel. At check-in you will be completely in your element thanks to your own boarding passes. This gives access to your own Aeronaut Cabin, where you can spend the night as a real aeronaut. The cabin is not large, but, thanks to the many details, it has everything you need. Through the bathroom window you look out over the park while the FLY whizzes past the window. So you spend the night here literally in the middle of the park. The industrial and robust atmosphere make it perfect working man twenties. And without even realizing it, you are one of those explorer from the time of the aviation pioneers.

The FLY (aka your dream of flying comes true)

The FLY (aka your dream of flying comes true)

The FLY, or the Flying Launch Coaster, is exactly what the aviation pioneers had in mind: the feeling of flying (but as a kind of turbo bird). It flies throughout Rookburgh and you will not experience a more realistic flying experience. You are of course very firmly secured, but then the chair tips over and you literally hang horizontally in the air and shoot through Rookburgh with enormous force.

Can't quite imagine it yet? We get it. So take the car to Germany yourself (a three-hour drive from Amsterdam, a piece of cake). Are you sleeping at Hotel Charles Lindbergh? Then with the Explorer package you get one once a day fast pass for the FLY and skip je the line of perhaps the best roller coaster. Maybe, it's really hard to choose.

Eating in Rookburgh

Eating in Rookburgh

Okay okay, so the food and the enormous choice. So don't think about the usual hamburger with fries (there is also that). But there is more, much more. In Rookburgh you can honestly eat the tastiest freshly made sandwiches with warm toppings zum Kohleschipper. Five flavors and favorite by far is the chicken. Then it's time for dessert Emily's Schokoladewerkstatt, a truly Willie Wonka feeling for the chocoholics. Or fill up a candy bag here, it will come in handy on the way back home. After a day thrill seeking freshen up in your aeronaut cabin and join us restaurant Uhrwerk. From steak tartare to divine smoked burgers, poke bowls and desserts to die for. There is something for everyone on the menu here: from vegetarian to gluten-free, from healthy to secretly a bit unhealthy, but that is why it is so tasty. You simply put together this menu à la carte. Order a nice bottle of wine or beer and you're ready to roll on Bar1919.

Bar1919

Bar1919

Bar1919 is only open to guests of the Charles Lindenbergh. If explorer you have access to Rookburgh when the park is closed. So no mega crowds, but also the folks who, just like you, think that a day at the theme park is best ended with a good beer and a game of billiards. You can immediately brag about how many times you have been to the FLY.

What does the tap serve? Fifteen types of craft beer. Or you go crazy and order an extra one liquid dessert, namely one explorer bowl. Served in style by the Peaky Blinders-looking bartender, while steam comes from all sides of the bowl rises upwards. In the meantime, play a game of darts, because that one bowl you can't finish it in one gulp. On the terrace outside you can take a look at the FLY, because here too it passes right over you. May we make a suggestion? Go for the beer tasting that is tailor-made by the enthusiastic bartender based on your personal taste. Before you dive into your Aeronaut cabin, you can stroll through the alleys of Rookburgh, because hey, you're explorer or not.

There's more. Much more.

There's more. Much more.

Okay, so definitely don't skip Rookburgh. But there is much more to experience in the park. In the rest of the theme worlds you will find crazy attractions. If you like roller coasters, those roller coasters that make you laugh, cry and scream at the same time, the tharon really one the must-. This is the fastest, and in its construction style also the longest, multi-launch roller coaster in the world. Adrenaline guaranteed. Don't you dare anymore? Then you can grab the Chicken Exit at the last minute (but don't).

Also put the Chiapas, the steepest water course in the world, on your list. This one rages through the theme world of Mexico during the Dia de los Muertos and once you have overcome it, you have earned that cold Mexican beer with tapas at Cocorico restaurant. Continue to the Asian themed world of China Town for dim sum or okonomiyaki (a Japanese pancake). In Berlin you will find a shopping street (with crazy funhouse like at the fair, but much nicer) with really good coffee, terraces that would not be out of place in Berlin and a patisserie with freshly baked eclairs and other fine pastries. Then you end the day at the medieval market square of Kugheim under the Taron for the tastiest beers. And voilà, you've gone around the world in one day.

Phantasialand

Phantasialand

So get ready for a short one roadtrip to Germany, because you really just want to experience this for yourself. Not only because we can't reveal everything, but mainly because there is too much fun to mention. It is a park for everyone, but for the really little ones (under four) it may be a bit too big.

Do you want to see the full experience? Then choose it explorer package which is included with an overnight stay at Hotel Charles Lindbergh. This gives you a three-course dinner in the Uhrwerk restaurant, an extensive breakfast buffet, direct private access to the park from the hotel, an overnight stay in the aeronaut cabin, once a day fast pass for the FLY and access to Rookburgh by night when the park is closed.
