Hotlist 2026: for these sporty luxury hotels, we are packing our sneakers (and heels).
At Barts Boekje, you have team beach bed. When The holidays are entering and Team Can't-Sit-Still. What we definitely have in common is that a holiday is just that little bit better in a beautiful place. Preferably a hotel with a touch of luxury, and above all, good food and drink and a comfortable bed.
So we fall into the active camp, but with conditions. It looks like this: going all out in the morning (hiking, cycling, surfing, you name it), and after that… wellness. Good food. Sleep even better. Everything top-notch, please.
And so: sporty hotels, but Barts Boekje proof.
We’d rather not swallow salt if we have to sleep in a sandy bed afterwards. Yes to sun, sea, sand, and salt, but in vacation mode. Hotel Alaia is an intimate and sustainable resort in Punta de Lobos, Chile. There are constant, sometimes powerful, left-breaking waves here. It is one of the few places in the world designated a World Surfing Reserve by the Save the Waves Coalition—cool!
The rooms are beautiful and all situated by the sea, and the kitchen focuses on local ingredients, largely sourced from the on-site greenhouse and garden. In addition to surfing, there is a skatepark with a concrete bowl that mimics the waves, Pilates classes, and a climbing wall for days when the ocean takes a break.
Wellness at its finest. This resort on the Aegean coast is self-care at its best. Here you will find one of the largest spas we have ever seen, featuring biohacking, hammams, ice rooms, and a meditation cave, plus personal training and tailored health programs. The dream place for anyone who truly wants to reset.
But you can also let loose outside the spa: hikes past ancient ruins, yoga with a sea view, swimming in beautiful bays, and food straight from the hotel's own vegetable garden. Everything in that Six Senses style: barefoot luxury, sustainable, and wonderfully serene. Bring sneakers for the workouts, heels for an evening under the stars among the olive trees. On the bucket list!
Naturally, we have to mention Austria in this list. It is pure winter sports, and in Austria, we love doing so in Stubai. Located in the Austrian Stubaital is the five-star SPA-Hotel Jagdhof, the ultimate dream for those seeking luxury winter sports. From Neustift (the municipality), you can reach the Stubai Glacier in no time. Just so you know, that is the largest glacier ski area in Austria, with around 110 kilometers of slopes and guaranteed snow from October well into spring. They offer long carving runs, powder snow, and panoramic runs between the 3.000-meter-high peaks. And with three additional ski areas in the valley, plus cross-country skiing, tobogganing, and snowshoeing, you are more than well catered for off the slopes here as well.
After a day in the cold, returning to SPA-Hotel Jagdhof is perhaps even more tempting than heading into the après-ski. A warm mulled wine in the lounge, a dip in the heated outdoor pool with a view of the snow-covered mountains, and then on to the 3.000 m² spa. Here you will find more than twenty sauna and wellness options, from a salt cave to a Tyrolean sauna, plus an impressive spa chalet for ultimate relaxation. The après-ski here might also be better than on the slopes (we didn't say that!), ranging from a bar with a fireplace to fondue in a gondola on the terrace.
And in the summer? Just think of the savings with the number of kilometers you can walk and cycle.
Hotel Chalet Mirabell, high above South Tyrol's Merano, is another dream destination for those looking to combine sport and luxury. You see, the mountain regions are simply excellent, and South Tyrol is, of course, top-notch… In winter, you are situated right next to the Meran 2000 ski area. There is also plenty to do off the slopes, from tobogganing and winter walks to cross-country skiing in the crisp mountain air. As soon as the snow melts, the surroundings transform into a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers, with routes such as the Haflinger High Trail and trails through the mountains.
After an active day (or before, or if you skip the active part, you do you), there is the 6.000 m² spa with heated indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and relaxation areas (often in South Tyrolean style, so no swimwear). And man… The food here: elaborate lunches, multi-course dinners that are absolutely fantastic.
We Know padel and Spain, but we stumbled upon two hotels in France and Portugal. Sure, strolling in Saint-Tropez and Airelles Château de La Messardière is perhaps the most glamorous answer to that. But on this 30-acre estate, you play padel among the olive trees, with views of swimming pools and the Côte d'Azur. Bring on that racket.
The game is taken seriously in Portugal as well. Pine Cliffs Resort in the Algarve It has everything: from adventure and wellness to golf, and now padel too. With a spacious court and endless facilities, this is one of those places where you switch from sports mode to relaxation mode in no time.

High on the bucket list, the Barcelona marathon. And 42km is tough (a half counts too!), but even tougher is the thought that we might sleep in a bad bed afterwards. Or that the breakfast buffet is disappointing. Ugh no. When we train for so long, we want to reward ourselves, too.
Nobu normally already has bottles of water for after the run when you stay there, but during the marathon, the entire hotel focuses on that. And Nobu has an amazing spa, inspired by Japan's combination of tradition and modernism, with three treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam bath, and great massages.
Nobu Hotel claims to be a 'urban sanctuaryAnd the day after the marathon, we hang out on the 23rd floor, because that's where the sushi bar is. Nobu is located in Sants, around the corner from one of the city's largest train stations. It's a neighborhood that is still very much under development, but you can get to the center in no time by public transport. You can also walk quite a distance, as it isn't *that* far. You even have a view of the Sagrada Familia. On the other side lies Montjuïc, a green neighborhood situated on and around a hill of the same name. It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center.
Hiking in Cornwall feels a little less like trudging. That is due to the rugged cliffs, wild beaches, and those delightful fishing villages. Along the way, you pass old tin mines, smugglers' caves, and the bizarrely beautiful Minack TheatreAn epic route of over 1000 kilometers along the southwest coast of England, but don't worry: no one says you have to do it all at once. Go in the autumn. Cornwall has a sort of microclimate, making October and November surprisingly mild and sunny. Fewer people, more space, and budget-friendly too.
The second, and perhaps even the first reason why we want to hike here so much, are the amazing hotels. The Scarlet HotelIt is eco-luxury on a cliff, with an amazing view. The hotel is located directly on the coast at Mawgan Porth and the South West Coast Path It literally runs right past here. And then the spa: a natural reed pool, a sauna with a sea view, and iconic wood-fired hot tubs on the cliff (!).
Prefer a bit more village charm, but still handsome? Then is The Idle Rocks In idyllic St Mawes, it is a no-brainer. The restaurant is what we came for (especially with the chef). Guy Owens at the helm).
Pickleball in the heart of Paris, duh. Just a few steps from the Arc de Triomphe ligt Hôtel Barrière Fouquet's ParisHidden in a courtyard, you will find a bright red pickleball court. Not necessarily what you expect in this classic city, but that is precisely what makes it so fun.
From May through September, hotel guests hit a few balls here. Naturally, in an intimate, mirrored room with characteristic Fouquet's red details. Not a guest? You can simply book the course (maximum four players), although that does come with a price tag of around €180 per hour, but then again, you are playing at one of the most unique spots in Paris.
And afterwards, you move on to the hotel's rooftop garden for cocktails and a view of the Parisian skyline.
Horse riding is next life anyway, but when it’s also a hotel where the celebs descend to do it…Gleneagles is not without reason a icon. This enormous estate of approximately 850 hectares lies in the middle of the Scottish countryside.
Since its opening in 1924, Gleneagles has been known as the place for golf (with three top courses: King's, Queen's, and the PGA Centenary Course), but even if you don't touch a club, you are more than satisfied here. Walking, fresh air, and activities ranging from falconry to fishing, archery, and horseback riding.
When Gleneagles Equestrian Centre You can go in any direction, whether you are a beginner or have been in the saddle for years. There are show jumping arenas, cross-country routes through forests and vast fields, and plenty of opportunities to really immerse yourself in the Scottish landscape.
Anyone who thinks wellness is all about juices and slow yoga needs to be told about Amanpuri. This is luxury and top-level sport, on a tropical peninsula no less. You come here to recharge, but certainly also to push yourself. We would book just for the gym with its sea view and trainers who really push you. You come here for Muay Thai in a professional ring, and there are intensive PT sessions, Pilates, and yoga: everything revolves around getting stronger, fitter, and sharper.
The Wellness Immersions are great: multi-day programs where training, nutrition, and recovery come together. Work purposefully on your fitness or strength, complemented by ice baths, massages, and medical guidance that completely reset your body. And of course, it is an Aman hotel. So after all that sweating, you effortlessly transition to long lunches by the sea and stay in serene villas. Everything is taken care of impeccably.
