Tenerife Travel Guide: Food and Drink (Best Restaurants)
Long live Spanish cuisine! Tenerife is slightly different from the rest of the country and for real traditional cuisine you should - of course - mainly go to the authentic villages. From rabbit stews to salt-crusted fish, from garlic shrimps, calamari a la plancha to quisada (but in any case the menus on Tenerife are overflowing with the tastiest fresh fish dishes). HIt really is Canary Islands pappas arrugadas, the small potatoes boiled in their skins with coarse sea salt and green mojo. Oh, and we haven't even mentioned that yet gofio, a Canarian flour found in the tastiest desserts – sweet, sweeter, sweetest. Voilà: our Tenerife Travel Guide full of food and drinks (the tastiest/nicest restaurants, that is).
In the shadow of Playa de las Américas lies this wonderfully (really) great beach bar: Bésame Mucho restaurant, part of the Monkey Beach Club. It ticks all the standard beach bar boxes: lots of rattan, lots of white, lots of delicious fresh fish dishes, and the familiar lounge music in the background. It's okay, though, because it's truly one of the nicest places in the area, so go for it!
OctopusAnyone? Mirlo La Caleta, Adeje, Tenerife, is one of the best tips for a delicious meal. The cuisine is exciting. Delicious? Absolutely!
We wonder if we can hang out at Moral more often? Located in the capital, Santa Cruz, and awarded a Bib Gourmand, is the small restaurant opened by chef duo Icíar Pérez and Juan Carlos Pérez-Alcalde. They met during their training and subsequently worked together in various top kitchens. They're experts at this skill, and that's how they opened Moral. A restaurant where Canarian dishes are given a creative twist. The cuisine is based on local ingredients and traditional flavors of the islands. The menu is deliberately small, and the restaurant often revolves around a creative tasting menu. For example, you can try glazed eggplant with eel and yogurt, garbanzos (chickpeas) with foie gras, or raya with mussel and parsley sauce. And desserts to die for.
Reservations are wise, as there are only a handful of tables.
The name actually gives it away – restaurant Aqua has a beautiful view over the water. Over the spectacular Los Gigantos Cliffs to be precise. How about watching the sunset while you flop down on one of the lovely lounge sofas? In any case, we really like it. We like the delicious dishes that chef Lucas Maes makes even more. Big bonus for the real works of art that end up on your plate - ravioli with cheese, truffle, mushrooms and white asparagus or the shrimp ceviche with passion fruit. Sounds good, right? It is the splurge more than worth it. Promise.
Here you can dine wonderfully - sniff your face in the sun and enjoy the salty sea air in your nose. And that is not surprising, because La Vieja is literally on the sea. What do you eat here? Lots of seafood and freshly caught fish. Fish lovers can indulge themselves here. And… You really notice that a lot of attention is put into the preparation of the dishes. All to uphold fishing gastronomy. And we like that.
We were quite charmed by the small (wind)surfing village of El Médano for several reasons: the relaxed and unmistakable surf vibe, the cozy village square, the beautiful beach, and the authentic fishing boats moored there for the next departure. And not least because of the restaurants. The village mainly attracts windsurfers, and where tanned surfers go, relaxed eateries pop up. A few places to explore: Café Flashpoint for coffee and cake, Veinte 04 Surf Café for a leisurely lunch. Ordago is a great place to be in the evenings.
An intimate and cozy restaurant that is quite popular among locals. Tip of the veil: book on time, because it is very full if you are not quick. The chef creates refined dishes fusion style, especially with a nod to South America. WhichHe combines different culinary styles, traditions, and cooking techniques, transforming them into true flavor bombs. It's no wonder the restaurant has been awarded one Repsol Sun (a gastronomic award for restaurants in Spain, somewhat comparable to a Michelin star). Ha!
An address to remember if you are a real one foodies and are not averse to a bit of adventure. Because this one hidden gems you don't find that easy. Logical, because it is not called E for nothingl Secreto aka The secret. We're not the faint of heart, so we're sharing this gem anyway. You'll find this renovated restaurant in a historic building in the countryside. Enjoy a cozy meal with a breathtaking view. Oh, and the chef cooks traditional dishes with tons of flavor. How nice that a variety of dishes are prepared on the wood-fired grill. The restaurant has also been awarded a Bib Gourmand. Kudos.
We said, five hotspots that you shouldn't miss for food... And then I'll just pick two of them here. Oops. These three restaurants actually have nothing to do with each other, except that they are only about twenty minutes away from each other as the crow flies. So easy to combine! If you do, then choose Sauco Restaurant for lunch: park somewhere in the village and take a walk along the coastline – picture-perfect Pictures every five minutes. The food is delicious and the view is just as good. There's a fish restaurant in another charming village. Aqua y Sal. Here the fresh fish are in the window and the rest of the cheerful blue-and-white restaurant also looks the same to have come up from the sea. If we have to choose a favorite of all addresses, the knife to the throat, then it is this one. Okay-okay we're adding a third catering business not to be missed: Dock Old and for that we go back to the first village. Muelle Viejo is not the least (located a stone's throw from Saúco) and has both a lovely interior (to the eye) and a delicious kitchen.
You'll find this charming spot in the chic fishing village of La Caleta, at the Babobab Suites Hotel. Where to go? Simple. Meat, meat, and more meat. The best part is that you can dine at the bar with dishes from the traditional grill. You'll also get to experience Spanish cuisine here. kitchen, but with an international one twist. A dining experience you will not soon forget.
Playa del Duque on the Costa Adeje is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife. If not the most beautiful. It boasts characteristic blue and white striped beach huts, thatched parasols, and white beach loungers, white sand, and a blue sea – it's picture-perfect. The chirinquito It's the little place on the beach. A small but very nice place where you can enjoy excellent food and drinks with your toes in the sand. The whitewashed eatery, built on wooden stilts, is right on the beach with the best views and the most delicious smoothies. At La Bahia, a little further down, you can enjoy a delicious fish of the day.
Hidden among the banana trees and close to the sea you will find El Burgado. A nice place to spend the afternoon. The restaurant has a fantastic view over nature and the bay. But what really makes it cozy and cozy are the fishing nets hanging from the ceiling. Reminds me a bit of pirate life, ha! And of course you can eat delicious fish dishes here.
The pines is a popular restaurant among the locals. And we understand why. The restaurant is in an old house in the village of Garachico. Typical dishes from the Spanish kitchen at a wooden table. And that, dear people, is very pleasant.
Another option in the same village is Mirador de Garachico and equally loved by the local public. The authentic one 'canarian cuisine' plays the key piece here. Authentic dishes indeed, but made extra interesting with a modern (or as it is said in the catering world: contemporary) twist.
You will find this restaurant just outside the historic center of La Orotava and we dare to say that here you can perhaps eat the best tapas on the island. The chef here cooks typical Spanish dishes just a little differently. Delicious drinks with jámon serrano, chorizo sausage, cheese and many other tasty treats. Sounds good right? We think so.
Papagayo beach club – You will find this delicious one at Playa los Américas beach club with all the trimmings. You can dine here for a long time during a real lunch or dinner. How about ending your beach day with a sushi board and a nice glass of wine? We would like to.
Bambu beach club – You will find this beach club at Playa de Las Teresitas Quiosco. You can sit here for breakfast/lunch/dinner with a beautiful view of the sea. Enjoying the sunset is perhaps the best time of the day.
