Sunny tip from the south: Cabillaud (Venlo, North Limburg)
Oh oh sun, where are you? Time to enjoy at Cabillaud (Venlo, North Limburg). This restaurant is located in an exceptionally good location huuge ass lounge roof terrace - on the Maas. Right in the center of cozy Venlo, but still (highly) hidden. And therefore intimate. It is not without reason that it has been named one of the most beautiful roof terraces in the Netherlands. So, hello Cabillaud!
The perfect setting for one day drinking lunch that ends in a long night out. Now that the restaurants are fully open again, we are already dreaming of sunny times. Time to leave winter behind us. Wine in hand, cheese board on the side and enjoy the (okay, sometimes) sunny south of the country. Where oh where? Restaurant Cabillaud it is.
To start at the beginning: a few years ago this restaurant opened in the heart of Venlo city and has been standing ever since fine dining there centrally. Every Wednesday to Saturday. Above all, you should remember that the food here is really great. They describe it as 'culinary works of art' on your plate. No lies.
You can choose a 3 to 6 course menu (with food: more is better, really!). The menu changes often, but always looks promising. From a terrine (say what? that's a kind of pate) from mushroom with Parmesan to mackerel. There is plenty on the menu for both fish/meat and veggie lovers. A wine arrangement is of course part of it. Add to that a wildly attractive interior – sleek with a high ceiling, velvet chairs and round seating areas – and you have a business with class and style. The service is extremely friendly, the prices are excellent. In short: this restaurant ticks all the boxes. Check, check, double check.
End your future sultry summer evening - this idea probably makes us dream - with a drink, or better yet a cocktail (ha!), on the roof terrace. Immediately view. Because really, this roof terrace is too beautiful. It feels un-Dutch: a bit like a roof terrace in Ibiza. But with a view of the Maas. Let the good weather come. Although it is also nice to spend time outside the sunny periods, there at Cabillaud.
