Natural wine bar & Bistro South North, Haarlem
Well, whether we have sensitive noses. A nose for a nice wine, yes. And to 'good' news in-town. We are excited when we can put both words in one sentence: a new (part one) wine bar (here it comes: part two:) in Haarlem.
This brand new wine bar was named South North. Why? We'll park that for a while and come back to it later. What you especially need to know is that it is new, nothing more than the most delicious glasses of organic wines are served and that you are really sitting there (in the conviviality of the city, but at a good corner away from the hustle and bustle and the tourist traps, let's call that bonus point part three). Three times 'win' is a charm? On to Natural wine bar & Bistro South North in Haarlem!
When you South North – no, we are not wrong, it is really about South North and not North South – as you walk past, your eyes automatically fly to the cozy terrace of South North, right next to the restaurant that we also love so much. Mica. This has everything to do with the cozy lights above the facade of the building and the just-right blue chairs on the sidewalk in front of it. Simple, but that's all a good terrace needs. Except for tasty wines of course and that is exactly the specialty of South North, including the necessary tasty snacks between the sips.
And as mentioned, right next to our beloved Mica. Ultimate day in the Haarlem city center? It starts at Mica and ends at North South.
Well, let's get back to the burning question in the meantime; because that's why the name? Simple, the wines on the South North menu all come from Southern Europe (think of Italy - of course - but also Croatia, Serbia & Slovenia) and are served here in the 'north'. It logically starts in the South and we can enjoy it in the North, which is smart, we think. And above all fun. The menu is also nice, which is changed regularly so that boredom never strikes. Shrimp croquettes, Slovenian charcuterie (exciting), but also gnochhi tartuffata with proscuitto or a tempting steak tartare are served. Did we come for the wine or the dinner/drinks menu? (Ding ding ding: just do it best of both).
Anyway, from about 16:00 PM to 17:00 PM (depending on the day), the blue chairs are placed in a terrace setup and we can enjoy an evening with filled glasses and full satisfied bellies. And inside? It's just as wonderfully simple there and that's exactly why it's so much fun.
And the first wine tastings left you wanting more... Taste for yourself.
