24 hours in Iceland: Dinner at Geiri Smart, Reykjavik
Because Iceland is not only good for a short stop, the island has... so much more nice things to offer. And Reykjavik is so much fun. Restaurant Geiri Smart, for example.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Reykjavik, on Hverfisgata (the street parallel to the Laugavegur shopping street). The restaurant is quite large, but the Smart layout (wink) makes it feel cozy and cozy. There is a large bar in the middle, with all the tables around it. Immediately to the right there are three booths with a wall full of colorful paintings above them. They're not afraid of a bit of color here (and a clear love for blue); the blue velvet sofas in the booths are extended to the regular chairs and the bar stools are also (dark) blue. Even the wall of the semi-open kitchen at the back of the restaurant is the same color blue. All together it is a fine example of interior work. Nnot too much, just right.
At Geiri Smart you can do exactly what you want; Choose a three-course or five-course menu from the chef or go à la carte. And if you don't completely trust the chef, you can also make your own suggestions within the chef's menu. Start with a cocktail, that's what Geiri is all about. All named after the best songs such as the The beautiful island and the Walk this way (favorite!).
With a well-filled Langoustine bisque and a perfectly cooked Rib-eye, not much can go wrong. The last one also included grated truffle and balsamic onions... Need we go further? Okay, now for dessert. 'Twisted donut ice cream' with white chocolate, praline and rhubarb. Yes, you should definitely visit Geiri Smart.

In cooperation with Icelandair we had a 24-hour layover in Iceland before flying to Seattle (more on that later). It's only a 3,5-hour flight from Amsterdam and perfect for a nice lay-over night.
