These hotels in Iceland will warm you up in no time
No sun, sea and beach, but a winter wonderland full of geysers, volcanoes, glaciers and other natural beauty. It hardly ever gets warm in Iceland. At least outside (except in the hot springs), because with this hotels in Iceland you will automatically warm up again.
After a stay at The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland are both your head and your wallet empty (overnight stays start at around €1500). If the latter is not a problem, read on. You can spend the night here in lava suites or moss suites which, as the name suggests, look out over lava and moss respectively. As a guest you have access to the lava caves, a steam cave and a private lagoon with water from the Blue Lagoon. You can also start the day with yoga and make your stay extra luxurious with a dinner in the Michelin-starred restaurant Moss, where they cook with local ingredients (no moss, in case you were wondering).
The old harbour aka The Grandi area is the creative neighborhood of Reykjavik. This neighborhood is home to the trendy Grandi by Center Hotels. The interior is industrial and a bit chic and is somewhat reminiscent of The Social Hub. We are not fans of the carpeting in the rooms, but we are fans of the mid-century chairs. At the Grandi you can also start the day in the gym or end it in the spa. They are not as big as at The Retreat, but the Always in style with ATF! are present.
Whoever loves food, loves The Greenhouse HotelThis hotel in the south of Iceland is located above a food hall. And a lifestyle shop which is open 24/7. All with a sustainable touch, so there is also plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. This is the kind of place where you could stay awake non-stop but sleep very well. Also with the whole family, because there are family rooms and suites where you can stay with four people. If the steam is not yet coming out of your ears because you are so close together (no offense to the rooms, they are quite spacious), then it is coming from the Reykjaladur. The steamy valley is close to The Greenhouse.
Close to Reykjavik Old Harbour and Harpa Concert Hall & Conference Centre, the Iceland Parliament Hotel. Not the prettiest hotel on this list, but one with comfortable large rooms. And a location right in the city center. Like almost every hotel in Iceland, the Parliament Hotel also has a modest spa with a small indoor pool. The interior of the in-house Hja Joni is a bit more exciting, just like the food and cocktails that are served there. Save room for dessert, because the Icelandic pancake sounds promising.
Hotel Jokulsarlon, also called The Glacier Lagoon Hotel (which is a lot easier to remember), is located in Jökulsárlón, 11 km from the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The building, with a roof full of grass, is reminiscent of a series of terraced houses. In a 'good' neighborhood, but you have no neighbors here. The Jökulsárlón is one of the most famous glacial lakes in Iceland, located in the southeast. When you stay at Hotel Jokulsarlon overnight it is definitely recommended to take a boat trip during the day. You can warm up afterwards in the sauna, hot tub or bath in your room. Or with a steaming cup of soup in the restaurant.
De the above mentioned boat trip can be booked via, among others Booking.com. It goes without saying that you can book accommodations, but did you know that you can also arrange flights, rental cars, airport taxis and attractions? No? Now you do. So book, because this is a boat you don't want to miss.
Also Hotel Reykjavik Saga is located in the center of Reykjavik. The interior is not very exciting, but the service and the location make up for a lot. Just like the breakfast buffet, which is very extensive. It must have something to do with the fact that the hotel is also home to Fröken Reykjavík Kitchen & Bar, which serves European dishes in an art deco setting. If you are in the area in December, you can join the festive menu with (among other things) reindeer tartare. If you would rather see Rudolf flying through the air than lying on a plate, you better go into town.
