8 x child-friendly hotspots in Rotterdam
One child-friendly hotspot after another seems to be opening in Rotterdam. We have listed the 8 nicest ones for you (and almost all of them have a nice outdoor space, so they are also very suitable for these sunny days!).
CROOS
At CROOS you can enjoy delicious (Man With Glasses) coffee, an extensive lunch, homemade cake or a drink on the terrace. This place is highly recommended, especially with offspring. In the CROOSt corner at the back of the store, the kids can play in the kitchen, do crafts, read or enjoy special children's sandwiches. There is music on Sunday afternoons and they regularly organize children's afternoons. And good to know just before spring: when the weather is nice, the furniture is moved outside and there is a nice terrace! CROOS
Homech
In the Kralingen district of Rotterdam you will find a cool but cozy restaurant, Thuisch, in a former daycare center. Lots of copper, large Chesterfield sofas, wooden tables and a mishmash of crockery. There is a nice playroom at the entrance where you can drop the kids off and have a meal yourself (as quietly as possible). In winter it is great to stay indoors, but in spring and summer this place is highly recommended. At the front there is a cozy French terrace with bistro tables, but at the rear you will find a gigantic sunny terrace right next to the park! There is also a separate area reserved for the little ones. They can have a great time there, while mom and dad sip one of the delicious Thuisch wines. Homech
Parakeet
Children playing on the grass, us with a glass of bubbles and tasty snacks under the trees. We can imagine ourselves sitting on the terrace of Parqiet in the romantic Park near the Euromast in Rotterdam next summer. For the youngest visitors there are toasted sandwiches, breadsticks, sandwiches and ice creams on the menu and there is a real children's corner full of fun books and games. Even if it rains all summer, we will be here. Parakeet
Baker & Moore
Everything about this place is nice: the design with lots of wood, stone and organic elements, the personal service from owners Paul and Eline and their staff, the home-roasted organic coffee and slow juices, and of course the food. They serve the most delicious breakfasts (with both a healthy breakfast bar and a full breakfast served at the table), 'create it yourself' sandwiches, patisserie from Marisca Sjerp and the most fantastic high teas, including a complete raw food version (!). There are workplaces and WiFi for working moms, and a children's corner for the kids. Tip: in the morning the sun shines on the cute, Brooklyn-worthy terrace. Baker & Moore
Vroesen pavilion
In North Rotterdam there is what you call a 'underserved' park, the Vroesenpark. Far too often forgotten by everyone who does not live in Blijdorp (because it is close to that neighborhood) and yet one of the most beautiful green parts of the city. So far so good because the Vroesen Pavilion finally opened at the beginning of July 2015. A cozy large wooden garden house in the middle of the park and the first really nice dining spot in the area. Mamamo
'Coffee – Koters – Gifts' is written on the facade of Mamamo in Rotterdam. Sounds good and it is also located right on the beach of Nesselande. Mamamo is located in a spacious, light and cozy building. There is a large craft table for the kids and there are lots of toys so that the mothers can drink and eat their coffee (Giraffe Coffee) with oatmeal cookies (Koekela) while the children have a great time. KEET
In the coffee bar-with-children's-play corner category, Rotterdam has acquired a very brilliant address: KEET. In the beautiful, bright corner building on the Oppert in the center, Claire Warneke set up a shop and a café, where you can easily while away a few hours. What to do: let your little one loose in the play corner (which is also wonderfully clean and sophisticated, full of stylish toys and a board for chalking) and then order something tasty from the menu. The sandwiches with scrambled eggs and avocado butter, for example, or yogurt with fresh fruit and granola – oh my! Until your order is ready, you can go into the store, because oh, KEET has so many nice things designer goodies. KEET
Far from here
In the Kleiwegkwartier in Rotterdam North, Ver van hier is where you can go for the most beautiful and best (English) books, events and film afternoons for kids. Think of dreary Sunday afternoons when a children's book is being filmed and parents can have a drink together in the meantime. You get really good (Rotterdam) coffee from Giraffe Coffee and there is a menu for breakfast, lunch and tasty (homemade) things with coffee (think gluten-free and sugar-free banana bread and marshmallows to name just two favorites). Funny detail: there is a piggy bank with which children can earn their own book with their pocket money. Far from here
