Coffee and croissant: the best places in Rotterdam

Coffee and croissant: the best places in Rotterdam

A day in Rotterdam doesn't need much to make it a success. Plenty to do, plenty to see and plenty of great restaurants to choose from. It is of course best to start such a day with a good strong bowl and something tasty. Well here: a collection of coffee places in Rotterdam, which also serve something tasty on the side.

When you've finished your coffee, visit a few of these Rotterdam hotspots.

Coffee Garden

Coffee Garden

Not just any coffee bar. Coffee Garden on the Bergselaan is a specialty Coffee and tea shop where Nikita and Sophie passionately select the best coffee beans from small, sustainable farms worldwide. From Ethiopian naturals to Colombian washed lots. Come in for a tasting, ask questions, and get advice. They always take the time for you. In addition to coffee and tea, you will find local products from artisanal makers in the region. And with regular workshops on specialty With coffee and matcha, there is always a reason to go back. We say: go!

Harvest Coffee Brewery

Harvest Coffee Brewery

Oh Harvest. Always bad Harvest when in Rotterdam. Because? The coffee, the brunch and the pastry. All three are worth a try.

The experienced people behind Harvest earned their stripes at the Librije, among other places. After working in various Michelin-starred restaurants, it was time to spread their own wings and start a business. They wanted to do this in Melbourne vibes to Rotterdam. We succeeded, we can say.

Harvest is in a really nice location – on the water, around the corner from the Erasmus bridge. IT COULDN’T BE BETTER.

Giraffe coffee bar and Academy

Giraffe coffee bar and Academy

Giraffe may be a concept in Rotterdam. Together with, of course, locals' favorite: Man met Bril. At Giraffe on the Hoogstraat they do things a little differently. In this fine building you can go for coffee, clothing, bikeware and upgrading your coffee knowledge in the so-called Academy.

The mix of these (all fun) activities quickly turns it into a cozy mess and there is always activity. The shop is open seven days a week—so you won't miss out. From the Hoogstraat you can walk to all kinds of other fun streets in no time. Perfect place to start your day. At Giraffe the beans are spicy enough, so you will be able to go all day long.

Man with Glasses

Man with Glasses

Man with Glasses Coffee is another concept in Rotterdam. Good quality coffee that is served in many establishments—catering, hotels, offices. The head office of Man met Bril is also certainly worth a visit and therefore belongs on this must-visit list. At Man met Bril you can open your laptop or chat with friends, and all that while enjoying a good cup of coffee and/or a delicious breakfast, cookie, or something like that.

Good news for the fans! Paul Sharo of Man met Bril Koffie will open the world's first coffee hotel in Rotterdam in the summer of 2023. This will be the place where international baristas and roasters will exchange and expand their knowledge about coffee. And also very nice for everyone with minimal knowledge of coffee.

IDS Bakery

IDS Bakery

Who says you shouldn't be in Rotterdam-Noord? Noord has a new pearl: IDS Bakery is a big surprise. In the middle of the residential area, blue window frames and light wooden stools adorn the streetscape.

Jorn opened his own business here some time ago, after gaining years of experience at well-known Rotterdam bakeries: Jordy's Bakery and Das Brot.

The assortment? Mostly breads (sourdough), but also delicious croissants—think pecan with blue cheese, but also an original or a pain au chocolat—show off on the counter. You can drink filter coffee at IDS from Schot Coffee Roasters.

Nice Coffee Bar

Nice Coffee Bar

Oh, another gem of a place. Different, hip, and with menu options that are finger-licking good. The basis (the coffee!) is good—excellent, we might say. In addition, Nice serves delicious lunch and breakfast dishes. Tasty sandwiches, tasty cakes, or other baked goods, as they like to say themselves.

The neighborhood is also lovely to stroll through. So we say: really nice, that

Perhaps the most beautiful building you can imagine in Rotterdam. The blue and white awning of Le Petitjean makes you instantly happy!

And to think that it all started very small for Maurice. Step by step the bakery was expanded and he taught himself different baking techniques. A micro-bakery where the most beautiful croissants are laminated and fantastic pastries are sold like hot cakes (or eaten straight away). Spandauers are there every day, each time in a different version or with a different jam (a Spandauer is a Danish pastry with custard filling, in case you were wondering).

From sweet bites to thick sandwiches: at Social you will find both. And besides—on the side—of course the best coffee, as they claim themselves. All that in combination with the most fun Pannekoekstraat in the heart of Rotterdam. What more could you want? Inside you are sitting very cozy and warm. The to-go hatch deserves a thousand points, it looks that good.

The Baguetteria

The Baguetteria

La Baguetteria is the kind of place you don't just walk past. In the display case: eclairs, tiramisu rolls, pastry and sourdough bread that is still warm. Everything is made fresh every day by Giuseppe, who learned his bread-making skills in Paris and incorporates his Italian heart into the fillings. Expect French technique with Italian flair — from focaccia with mortadella & provolone to baguettes that really crackle. Seating is scarce, but through the glass wall you can look straight into the bakery, or you can simply take your cappuccino and pastries with you for a walk along the Rotte.

The U Bar (The Usual)

The U Bar (The Usual)

For those who don't know yet: we are big fans of The Usual in Rotterdam. Handsome place, top location, and multifunctional without any fuss. You can sleep there, have breakfast (even if you aren't a guest), work, and even do a bit of people-watching. That is the way we like. Let that breakfast take priority right away: fresh rolls, yoghurt with granola, Overnight Oats, eggs, muffins, pastries from local bakeries. You get the idea, a real treat.
