Bread with a touch of Mozart: Bakery Amadeus, Utrecht
Handmade, tasty and healthy. That is the sourdough bread from Bakery Amadeus in Utrecht. Amadeus? That's Mozart's name, right? Beats! According to owner Maurice, bread should sing. The originally tenor and opera singer was a home baker for years, and decided to completely change course - because of the cornona, you understand. After all the preparations, test tanks and tests, the time has finally come: Bakery Amadeus Utrecht has been opened. And be quick: all the goodies are selling like hot cakes.
The artisanal bakery, located in a cute building on the edge of the center of Utrecht, is one that you would also find in France or Italy. Traditional and pure. The Amadeus range mainly consists of sourdough bread, but you can also take home a baguette, croissant, focaccia, pizza or something sweet. To become a budding baker yourself, you can take a bread and pizza baking course.
Amadeus is hotter and hot, and an open secret. To get something from the bakery you have to get up seriously early. You are welcome from 8:30 am until, when everything is gone. The bakers are there from Wednesday to Saturday and that is actually far too short. So many goodies with a touch of Mozart. Who wouldn't want to stock up on fresh sourdough bread or a lemon-blueberry cake every day?
The picturesque bakery is inside Metal Cathedral, an ecological cultural spot. The industrial, old character of the building - once a metal factory and neo-Gothic church - can also be seen at Amadeus. The walls in the small but open space are unfinished and the wooden counter sits on a concrete floor. Next to the bakery there is a vegan restaurant and beekeeper in the church. Reason enough for a visit!
