The Barts Booklet good deeds list
At Barts Boekje we love good tips: nice addresses, tasty hotspots and good beauty products. But what we find perhaps even more important is that they are also good things. Things that contribute to a better world, no matter how big or small that contribution is. That is why we have listed a few good deeds in the light that makes us happy.
Muk is 5 years old and has childhood dementia, a debilitating disease that is slowly taking away everything she has learned. There is hope: a treatment that could save her life will soon become available. However, it costs €1.000.000, and her parents, Rik and Nadine, do not have that amount. Therefore, a crowdfunding campaign has been running since October 2025.
Schools throughout the country organized campaigns, children sold homemade items, associations started collections, and entrepreneurs donated a portion of their revenue. More than half has already been raised; for Rik and Nadine, this is also proof of how many people care about others.
But a substantial amount is still needed. Muk needs to be able to start the treatment on September 19. So: donate, share, or come up with something yourself.
The Ocean Cleanup removes plastic from oceans and rivers. A dream that started as a school project of a Dutch teenager and is now going around the world. The ultimate example of thinking and acting big. And extra nice: you can donate, but also shop in their webshop, the proceeds of which go directly back into the mission.
Orchestra Partout is an orchestra for everyone. This musical group brings classical music to places where you might not immediately expect it: nursing homes, asylum seekers' centers, prisons. They use music for connection, as comfort and as a celebration. You can support the orchestra with a donation, or simply by attending one of their open performances. Because music connects and we can't have enough of that.
Plant a tree for every city trip, flight or online purchase? Sounds like a good idea. Trees for All makes it easy to offset CO2 emissions by planting trees in the Netherlands and abroad. A donation feels like a breath of fresh air: good for the world and for your conscience. You can easily donate to have your own tree planted.
Animal love is true love, right? DierenLot Foundation is committed to animals in need, close to home. From neglected cats to injured hedgehogs, all animals that need help get it. Donating is easy via the site and you know for sure that you are doing something good for the fluff balls in your neighborhood.
Unfortunately, it is not a given for every child in the Netherlands to celebrate their birthday. Birthday Job Foundation ensures that children from poor families still get a nice birthday, complete with cake mix, streamers and presents (sounds like a party). Because every child deserves a birthday party. Period.
Sheltersuit Foundation makes waterproof jackets that can be transformed into sleeping bags for the homeless. The jackets are designed and made in their own studio, together with people who are distanced from the labor market. In this way, they ensure that the homeless have a raincoat during the day and a sleeping bag to sleep under at night.
When you go for a job interview, your clothing is of course very important. Dress for Success (as the name suggests) provides people with a minimum income with neat clothing and styling advice, so that they can enter the job market with more self-confidence. Because when you look good, you often feel a lot better.
