Ten days of laughter in Amsterdam during Boom Chicago Comedy Festival from June 27 – July 6

Let's get straight to the point: the best festivals are the ones that made us laugh the hardest afterwards. And the best of all is a festival where you have to laugh during the performance. Look, that's all right at the Boom Chicago Comedy Festival, perhaps the best festival of this summer in Amsterdam.

No clay on your feet, no wristband that you can't get off for three days, but simply: ten days of laughing, drinking, watching and participating in the Jordaan. From 27 June to 6 July 2025, big names from the comedy world, new faces, improvisation talents and local favourites will come together for an extensive programme full of humour, energy and inspiration.

The festival, which once started as a small-scale ode to improv and satire, has now grown into a must-see event for anyone who loves comedy. On stage this year will be Brendan Hunt (known for Ted lasso), brothers Seth and Josh Meyers, Ike Barinholtz and Arjen Lubach. But also Fringe darlings (artists who are popular at the Fringe festival, an annual theater festival) such as Elf Lyons, YouTubers from Epic Rap Battles of History, home-grown cabaret artists and the regular Boom Chicago ensemble members ensure a well-filled line-up.

The offering is diverse, with performances in both English and Dutch, and the atmosphere is accessible and inviting. Queer comedy and themes such as identity and current affairs are also given ample attention. And why on earth would you want to laugh for ten days? You don't have to, because there is so much more. It's all about interaction and experience. In addition to the performances, various workshops are organized: from improvisation for beginners to master classes by professionals. Anyone who has ever thought: "I would like to be able to do that too," will have the chance to step onto the stage themselves (even if it is only in a rehearsal room). And every evening after the shows there are drinks and afterparties to complete the festival feeling.

And actually the location alone is worth a visit: the Rozentheater is a beautiful building with multiple theater halls, flexible workspaces and a cozy bar. Centrally located in the Jordaan and easily accessible by public transport. Ideal, because this way you can easily combine a festival evening with a bite to eat nearby. (If we may give a tip: restaurant Pesca with its new roof terrace is absolutely recommended.)
