the genuine brasserie classics in Bruges, Belgium: Bar Bulot by Hertog Jan***

Don't names like Hertog Jan and Gert Demangeleer sound familiar to you? Then it's high time for a return trip to Bruges. With restaurant Hertog Jan, chef Gert De Mangeleer and sommelier Joachim Boudens managed to win no fewer than three stars. The restaurant in Zedelgem, West Flanders, closed its doors in December 2018, but in October 2019 the duo opened its latest concept: Bar Bulot in Bruges, Belgium. And how!

Bar Bulot by Hertog Jan*** was created this summer as a temporary seafood restaurant. The restaurant finally opened its doors on October 23 with high-quality brasserie cuisine in a stylish and casual setting. While the focus during the pop-up phase was mainly on fish and seafood, meat lovers are now also getting their money's worth. For French-Belgian classics such as steak tartare, tournedos and pig's head terrine, Bar Bulot by Hertog Jan*** is the right place.

In addition to the menu, Gert Demangeleer and Joachim Boudens also gave the interior of Bar Bulot a new look. The stylish decoration with leather chairs and blue accents gives a fresh touch to the nostalgic brasserie atmosphere. Thanks to the large windows between the kitchen and the hall, you can keep a close eye on the chefs and from spring you can also sit down at one of the tables on the terrace.

Bar Bulot can be found where it all started for Gert and Joachim: the first location of Hertog Jan and the former home of LESS, the concept restaurant that can now be found in the city center of Bruges. With its central location on the green edge of Bruges, Bar Bulot by Hertog Jan*** is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

At the helm of Bar Bulot by Hertog Jan***? Maxime Depreitere and Pieter Lefevere. They give a contemporary interpretation to French-Belgian signature dishes such as tomato shrimp and North Sea sole. Genuine brasserie classics, served with a high level of finishing and an eye for detail. Just like we are used to from the Hertog Jan team. Anyone who puts their feet under the table at Bar Bulot selects their own menu from the snacks, starters and main courses, side dishes and desserts on the menu. You can supplement with French and European wines. For those who want more, there is also the exclusive selection of “trésors de la cave”, treasures from the wine cellar, from Hertog Jan***.
