A pearl hidden in nature in Amsterdam Buitenveldert: Restaurant Gijsbrecht

A bit of cycling and then you have something. A beautiful restaurant in a green park. Plus a beautiful terrace on the water. Good food, delicious wines and a nice mixed crowd. You have us. Restaurant Gijsbrecht is located in the nature of the Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark in Amsterdam Buitenveldert. Close to the city and yet nice and away from the city. We would like to introduce you.

Restaurant Gijsbrecht

Restaurant Gijsbrecht

The old Amsterdammers among us will still remember the building of Restaurant Gijsbrecht. For thirty years this was the base of Restaurant Halvemaan, which had a Michelin star in the 1990s. The beloved oldies happily made way for something younger. And that became Restaurant Gijsbrecht. Naturally named after the park. These types of locations – in Amsterdam in the middle of a park and on the water – are unique. Of course delicious on the terrace in warm weather. But the view from the cozy restaurant is also beautiful with orange or snow-covered trees.

The restaurant was converted into a warm crescent (or am I the only one who gets the crescent feeling from the large semi-circular windows overlooking the park?). Velvet chairs and comfortable sofas (where you can snuggle up with your sweetheart or date after dinner). Atmospheric (read: attractive) lighting. And marble tables where the delicacies appear. Seasonal dishes, preferably local and organic ingredients, paired with good wines and, for those who love oysters or caviar. You can taste it, right? Not yet? Poached egg with Dutch shrimp. Monkfish cheek with Opperdoezer and lemon butter. Boletus with potato-scallion mousseline. Surprising dishes that turned out very tasty.

The mix of people who know where to find Gijsbrecht is nice. Old and young. Romantic couples to groups of friends. If you are with a group of up to 20 people, you can go to the side room. Next to the bar, also practical with a group. We are already looking forward to settling down on the terrace in the spring. Or who knows, during a round of ice skating. We don't know when yet, but we are certain that we will be back.

Oh, and every last Sunday of the month it's time for live music, wine, cocktails and good food during the Sunday Brunch at Restaurant Gijsbrecht. We like it!
