It Generator Hostel Amsterdam is your place and you can sleep in one of the dormitories, but you can also book a room for two. The subject is a truly fantastic building, once the zoological department of the University of Amsterdam, which has its front door in the Oosterpark. Three rooms have been created in the building. 1) The Nescio Café, a tribute to the Dutch writer of that name, in the bright, high lobby. The room has original stained glass windows and extends into a small terrace right in the Oosterpark. Furthermore, you can hang out at and around the wooden tables around a modern black frame in the middle of the room. 2) The Auditorium Bar, formerly a lecture hall of the University. Think original wooden desks with classic green desk lamps opposite the professor's board, now the drinks menu. You sit on the platform, which gives you such a nice view.

Downstairs in what used to be the boiler room, in the basement, is now the hotel club - a perfect place for a party, which is regularly held there.

A basic shop at reception sells padlocks, toiletries and snacks. There are almost 170 rooms, for two, four or six people. They are minimalistic, as should be the case in a hostel, and cheerful, especially thanks to the wallpaper. Try to book a park-side room on one of the top two floors where the windows are floor-to-ceiling: waking up virtually next to a rustling tree is a must-do. Plus: all rooms have their own bathroom, so no showering in the hallway. Once again you have breakfast hostel style, simple but good. And: there are avocado and warm eggs. Ole. For later in the day, the pizza, sandwiches and zucchini spaghetti with parmesan cheese, mint and arugula are recommended.
