Vega(n) for next to nothing? So that is possible! These are our favorites

Heard a lot: "yes, I want to eat less meat, but vegetarian and vegan ingredients/dishes are often so expensive...". We once agreed with that statement. A vegan lifestyle was also quite difficult to maintain, and tasty (especially tasty) food without animal ingredients seemed like an enormous challenge. Das war einmal! Nowadays there are a lot of good and affordable options available, so we're just making a list of them, with the Week Without Meat in mind. An 'evergreen list' as it is very appropriately called: we keep adding to it.

Vega(n) snack board? Here you have snacks that should not be missed.

3 x as many vegetarian items on the shelves of Lidl

We wrote an entire article about it: supermarket giant Lidl tripled its vegetarian range (and there is also a whole bunch of vegan goodies to discover). The entire article you read here

On to La Place!

On to La Place!

Those who think in terms of budget often end up at the larger chains in the country. That once seemed like swearing in church (er... Barts Boekje), but it is actually very logical: although we like the so-called independent support entrepreneurs (after all, that's what we ourselves are), it is simply often a lot more expensive to eat at the same price all week. It's worth it, really, but it doesn't benefit anyone. For that reason we really welcome the fact that major parties are doing better and better. Such as La Place, now part of Jumbo. In any case, a company that in our view (also) deserves applause given its very good and varied range. Are you on the go, or – for example – in Amsterdam's Kalverstraat, then La Place your absolute (vegetarian) stop for the whole family. Promise. The quinoa burger is terribly tasty (but real), and you will come back for the truffle pizza. Mark our words. And it will cost you the minimum. Enjoy your meal.

Party? Vega bitterballen!

Party? Vega bitterballen!

Best tip EVER: the bitterballen from the vegetarian butcher. Hop, put it in the oven and on the table. You don't owe your guests any explanation: your vegetarian friends will love it and the rest won't even taste the difference.

The photo below is from O My Foodnees and they are… Mac-'n-Cheese bitterballen! Big tip, both the balls (they don't cost a ball) and Sabine's website (p.s. her famous one). cheese cake even got its own page on the site!).

Crisp

Crisp

No no no no, the Crisp grocery ordering app is not expensive! That is a perception that many people have, but which, after placing two different 'checkout' receipts next to each other, we throw in the trash.

Let it be clear: Crisp's beautiful design does NOT mean that the app is only for luxury groceries. Crisp is also ideally suited for tasty daily groceries.

In addition, you will receive a mountain of - free - inspiration on how to buy vegetarian and/or vegan in an original and tasty way. The app supermarket not only has a delicious range (there are no tastier croissants than those from Crisp, which are delivered frozen and can therefore be ordered in large quantities, which saves money on your wallet), but they also give away exciting recipes. . Secretly, you don't even have to place an order for that. So sympathetic. Love Crisp!

The market

The market

Perhaps a bit of a no-brainer, but the market is still the best place for your fruit and vegetables and therefore for your wallet. Especially the products that are in season at that time (and then they are also the tastiest, win-win). Even though the range of fruit and vegetables at most supermarkets is more than excellent, at the market you will still find those crazy vegetables that you had already forgotten, but which are very tasty and very cheap, such as parsnips or purslane. If you don't know where the market is again (crazy), we have a list our favorite markets in Amsterdam.
