Guide with tips for Siargao, one of the nicest islands in the Philippines
Perhaps it is not even true that Siargao is the most beautiful and impressive island in the Philippines. You will certainly find nicer beaches elsewhere. It's more that we adore life on Siargao so much. If you book a few days, there is a good chance that you will extend to a week and you actually want to make it your new permanent spot. That happens to the best.
In the morning, take a boat tour to a surf spot for the best waves, then have breakfast in a trendy bar and then cruise with your scooter to wherever you want. Siargao is becoming more touristy, but it is far from Bali and so much more fun if you visit the dozens of other small paradise islands a few minutes by boat from Siargao and also discover the north of the island with your scooter. Getting stuck in General Luna for too long is the biggest pitfall.
To make the most of your time here, we have created a guide with tips for Siargao, one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines.
It's a bit of a challenge, but you have to be willing to do something for paradise. Siargao is located in the south of the Philippines, a 1 hour and 40 minute flight from Manila. The easiest way to reach Siargao is by taking a flight from Manila or Cebu.

There is absolutely no need to sleep in a rickety hut. Here you will find luxury resorts, charming boutique hotels or that luxurious hut on the beach. Options in every budget class.
In General Luna
- At Soffta Surf Ranch en Three Little Birds Hostel you sleep in a dormitory for next to nothing. Surf vibes over the top here.
- At Las Palmas Villas and Casitas Siargao you don't have to share your room. Much more luxurious and the only things you share are the wonderful swimming pool and restaurant.
- At SEACLUB Siargao you rent a very nice villa for you and your clique. Everything you need.
- Did we just catch you at a luxury hut on the beach? Amihan Bungalows you must have.
Other places on the island
- The location of Bamboo Surf Beach is incredible, right on the surf beach. The houses are beautiful and surrounded by nature.
- Also with Ferra Resort Siargao you become quiet awake. First a dip in the sea, before cruising about 3,5 kilometers to the center of General Luna.
Life here largely revolves around surfing: the first question when renting a scooter was “with or without surf rank?” To rent such a scooter, it is best to ask your accommodation, you know, they have those contacts. You will also most likely find the best surf teacher through the contacts of your accommodation. Cloud 9 has one of the world's best surf breaks (and best sunset spots), but even more fun is to surf in a boat for the best waves at that moment. Your teacher knows how.
How do we fill the rest of the days? Don't worry, because it's a piece of cake. It is a three-hour drive from the tourist hub of General Luna in the southeast to the northernmost part and there is plenty to do in between. For example, in the village of Maasin, a coconut tree hangs above the water and a rope swing where you can swing locals and sail a boat.
Scootering along the coastline is an activity in itself and somewhere you will come across a viewpoint over the palm trees. Where exactly that is is not well indicated, but you can see it because of the hordes of people. You don't have to drive for it because it is on the main road. While driving around the island, also stop at the white sandy beach with rocks, the Magpupungko Rock Pools.
The other popular, yet lesser known, beach is Pacifico on the east coast. There are also plenty of surfing opportunities here. Alegria Beach is also a beautiful beach, all the way in the north.
But we actually just recommend scootering at your own pace and at your own pace. The landscapes are beautiful and the people are friendly.
Is there nothing to do in General Luna? Yes! This is where you want to shop and eat. In bad weather you can paint in the Big Mama Laundry Café or visit the spa at ESSE Massage and Spa.
We have already mentioned that the surrounding islands of Siargao are perhaps even more beautiful than the main island itself. Siargao is surrounded by mangrove forests and with the three islands tour you get the best idea of the area.
Ok, the real reason why we like Siargao so much is because of the catering industry. One of those places where you come for a coffee and then stay until dinner and enjoy it too. Which places do you want to visit?
- Roots is immediately the most expensive restaurant on the island, but they serve an extensive tasting menu for the equivalent of 32 euros. Fine dining with mainly fish dishes. A lot more modern than the local restaurants and run by non-locals. Unfortunately often the case in Siargao.
- The ceviche comes fresh from the sea Cev Siargao roll. Fresh flavors and around the Ceviche theme, they can serve many surprising dishes. The ginger cocktail is highly recommended. The three Main Ceviche – Guyam, Pacifico and Santa Monica – are perfect, but you can ignore the spring roll and fish balls. It's a bit popiopi.
- Bliss Siargao is also not local, but Swiss. The fatty bite we craven after paddling on that board. The Cordon Bleu and the cheese-chili balls went well.
- It's finally coming! local food Finding one can be quite a challenge thanks to the many trendy tents in General Luna. Bee J.M. Carenderia en Catangnan BBQ you have a mustache. The prices are also a lot lower.
- As we said, don't just hang around General Luna, because the north of Siargao is beautiful. We ate the tastiest smoothie bowl with it Kolekbibo.
- Want to catch the sunset? Those are the most beautiful ever in Siargao with the surfers in the background. Popup Siargao serves some beer and music with it.
- Not awake enough from your morning swim yet? White Beard Coffee en Vedya Siargao are go-to for caffeine. Coffee with lunch? My lordWe had the best lunch there Greenhouse Siargao. With a lovely garden on the beach, the tastiest French Toast and good workplaces.
- Prefer something stronger? Manu for cocktails, go go go.
- And on those days when we don't do anything at all, we enjoy lazing by the pool apply with lunch.
