In continuation of our Frisian love, we recently (re)discovered the Lauwersmeer, officially declared a Dark Sky Park, an area where it is dark, where darkness is preserved and where visitors are welcome at night to experience that darkness and see the starry sky. And yes, that's fun, very fun! Because: Have you ever noticed that true darkness is rare? The Netherlands has only two Dark Sky Parks, both in Friesland. Lauwersmeer National Park and De Boschplaat National Park on Terschelling are in the International Dark Sky Association officially named as Dark Sky Park. Areas where light pollution is kept to a minimum, allowing you to see countless stars! All the more reason to travel to Friesland. By train of course, but if you go by car, skip the traffic jam and drive in the dark Afsluitdijk. It is beautifully illuminated. It is a work of art, and it is entitled Gates of Light. And then (with friends or your own family - unforgettable in all cases) you can enjoy undisturbed the starry sky and the sounds of nature that you had forgotten existed. Very much and you only hear it when it is really quiet.

The topic of conversation used to be a small church in the center of Franeker, Frisian, then the Bentex clothing club was there for years and when they moved out, it was empty. A prime location but a difficult building to fill, as it turned out. When a clothing bank was looking for a place to stay, and entrepreneur and owner Martine Feenstra of fashion store Simply Mooi in the Dijkstraat in Franeker, right next to the church, got wind of it, it turned out to be a wonderful combination: a social plan and a cozy coffee bar with lunchroom. , Franeker could use one of those! Feenstra demolished the carpentry with which Bentex had expertly removed all ecclesiastical elements, such as arched windows, and brought back the nostalgic atmosphere of the past. Beautiful, you understand.

A large number of volunteers (jointly known as Helping Hands) have already started a digital clothing bank. With Hert fan Frjentsjer, there is finally room for a physical clothing bank. Feenstra's coffee bar is located in front of the area with the collected clothing, which is repaired, washed and ironed. The catering facility is open from Wednesday to Saturday, the other days are automatically filled with other initiatives. Because ironing and washing still have to be done, there will be a laundry and ironing service for everyone, a handyman bus and space for groups that want to cook and eat together. Fan, we are.
