Vegetarian and/or vegan food is available in these restaurants in Amsterdam (and surroundings)

You really don't have to go completely vegetarian, but paying attention to your meat and fish consumption never hurts. Fortunately, you can get a vegetarian meal at almost every restaurant, but one vegetarian dish is not the same as the other. To avoid disappointments, we collected the tastiest vegetarian and vegan hotspots in this endless list. Places where you can indulge as a vegetarian, vegan, flexitarian, pescetarian and even as a meat lover. The majority in our own Amsterdam, and a number of unmissable addresses beyond. Don't mention it!

Starting with the restaurants in Amsterdam:

Chez Nina

Chez Nina

Chez Nina, you are so beautiful. And delicious and cozy and (yes, yes) completely 100% vegetarian! This restaurant is the (new) addition to the Van Limburg Stirumplein, just a stone's throw away from the Westerpark. At this neo-bistro (read: innovative, competitively priced and... casual) you taste, through shared dining (and lunch), all the goodies from Swedish chef Nina Olsson. Consider: Veggie stew with pumpkin and Cauli fritters with dip (Yes!). Vega (and vegan)shard dining so, in a beautiful interior with unique cocktails, good (natural) wines (all vegan!) and sweet treats. Are you ready yet?

Canary Club

Canary Club

Better one bird in your hand than ten on your plate. Canary Club in Amsterdam West all sorts of things are served, but the birds are allowed to fly. The restaurant is attached to the Hallen but is a lot less busy and chaotic. A nice place to eat various snacks before or after a movie. Snacks indeed, because shared dining is the norm. Although no one will be surprised if you simply order a portion of (sweet potato) fries with mayo. Really tasty, but so are the mushroom tempura, beets from the charcoal oven and grilled pointed cabbage. Early birds and workhorses are just as welcome at Kanarie Club as night owlsThe doors open at half past eight and you can have breakfast and (optionally) open your laptop.

Cornerstore + Café Binnenvisser

Cornerstore + Café Binnenvisser

Fish and meat? That's possible, but that's it Corner store in Amsterdam North the exception, not the rule. Okay, we approve. And especially since Cornerstore's dishes are very good, tasty and versatile. Read more about this here Corner store Amsterdam (photo right)

To be honest, that reminds us of something… Ah! Yes! At Café Binnenvisser of course. That's not surprising: Cornerstore and Inland fisherman They pretty much come from the same mold and they are both highly recommended. Only, of course, Binnenvisser is located on Bilderdijkstraat in Amsterdam West (photo left).

Café Beurre

Café Beurre

She, and then 'she' is the people behind Café Beurre Amsterdam, were not yet open or we were already smitten on the lovely blue-and-white interior of the small, initially inconspicuous business in Amsterdam's StaatsliedenTurn. Café Beurre is located on a corner there, with a partly covered terrace, on Van Limburg Stirumstraat. Good news because we didn't have anything like this in the area before. Something like that? Yes. A restaurant with nothing but vegetarian dishes and a heck of a wine list. For the vegetarians and certainly also for the non-vegetarians! That's how it can be done.

Great news: Beurre has a new business and Petit Péché is the name. They also have some meat and fish there, but the vegetarian options are worth a go.

The Daredevil

The Daredevil

No meat substitute products here, but pure and fresh dishes with seasonal products. Look, that's what we sign up for. De Waaghals has been around since 1981 and is still a growing favorite in the cozy Frans Halsstraat. What you get served here is not too difficult or complicated, but nice and pure and easy. They serve a 3- or 4-course surprise menu with dishes from all over the world. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are a feast on your plate. The service is smooth and friendly. An evergreen if we want to eat vegetarian but we can no longer see the forest for the trees.

Cabbage (pop-up)

Cabbage (pop-up)

Familiar with the nice spot of Steak on Wibautstraat? Good news, Volt has opened a pop-up here. Volt is all about simple, tasty and sustainable food (nice trio, if we say so ourselves). We cook here with lots of vegetables and everything is freshly prepared. Sounds like a good idea, right?

At Troost brewery, where the beer tanks are in the middle of the shop, we came for the good terrace. You can enjoy it so much on the extensive terrace, with a good snack and the tastiest beer. Now they are also showing that beer also goes very well with vegetarian snacks and dishes. For example, she recently introduced a completely vegetarian menu. There are now also some meat dishes on the menu, but the Vega burger of the month remains our regular go to.

Balthazar's Kitchen

Balthazar's Kitchen

Classic since 1995 and never not good: Balthazar's Kitchen in one of the nicest places in Amsterdam, in the heart of the Jordaan. First of all, the couple that runs the business has both taste (the kitchen) and taste (the interior) so that everything (the food and the styling) is still alive after almost 20 years. we point as if it were one of Amsterdam's hippest openings. And that's great! The atmosphere of Balthazar's is even nicer, as if you were joining friends. That may also be in the menu that cannot (not really) be chosen: large bowls to share and always tasty and 70% vegetarian, 100% if you ask for it. Balthazar's Kitchen

Saravana Bhavan

Saravana Bhavan

Sara-waht? Saravana Bhavan. No, the looks of the vegetarian South Indian restaurant on Stadhouderskade may not be exactly the same as what you usually find here on this website, but the interior is definitely much cozier than the exterior facade suggests. Most importantly: the food! People. The food. It's delicious, versatile, surprising, healthy(-ish) and above all: it won't break the bank. We bet you'll be there again next week? Or no: ordered. Saravana Bhavan Amsterdam is well represented through delivery services and that is quite pleasant.

Oliver Green

Oliver Green

Originated from the mission to contribute to a healthier society. You can eat responsibly, healthy and also very tasty and the great thing is that you are there Oliver Green you can go all day long. They have many different bowls (cold and warm), sweet and healthy stuff to go with freshly brewed coffee, delicious sourdough bread with avocado and more of that kind. Healthy it is. Also nice, they do to go You can find Oliver Green in East, since 2021 they also have a business in West and recently you can also go there in South.

GREEN gastro bar

GREEN gastro bar

We're going up up up. To the 26th floor of Valley to be precise. There is something for the vegetarian (and non-vegetarian, they also prepare meat on request) luxury cats among us GREEN gastro bar. They are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12.00:18.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX. Certainly not the cheapest on the list, but the food is tasty, prepared with care and looks beautiful. The place itself felt a bit businesslike to us, but you do have an amazing view of the city.

A cool restaurant was set up in a cool red building, 3 trips from Amsterdam CS (handy!). No crazy frills, just simple tables, long benches, tiles on the walls and floors, open kitchen, a plant and a vintage sofa here and there and a large red staircase as an eye-catcher (it was probably already there, but that doesn't make it any less eye-catching). catchy). But you go to Choux, just like at Foyer, mainly for the food. And – of course we want to say – Choux does not disappoint. Now they cook a lot of fish dishes, but (a very big one) it is the seasonal vegetables that play the leading role in the menu.

Madre Amsterdam

Madre Amsterdam

Big thumbs up for that Mexican cuisine. Why? Well, everything is delicious – with a little cream here and salsa there – and vegetarian options abound. And a new Mexican restaurant has just opened its doors in Amsterdam's Jordaan: Madre Amsterdam. What to expect? Exciting cocktails, genuinely very good and original vegetarian options and delicious enchiladas. Come on!

Vegan

Vegan

Coincidentally, very much looking forward to it Asian street food? Are you lucky? In Oud-West – in the oh so cozy Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat – you will find a vegetarian tent Vegan. Upon entering the restaurant (with bar) it is a cheerful place; neon lighting, green stools, colored flowers and pink stairs. On the menu? Shared bites from different Asian cuisines. How about bao buns, korean fried cauliflower and jackfruit rendang? Everything tasty. To taste the entire menu (25 dishes!), you need to visit more often must

Mama Makan

Mama Makan

Indonesian cuisine is very vegetarian vegan proof . At Mama Makan they prove that with their vegan rice table. Without chicken satay and that kind, but with gado gado, perkedel jagung (corn fritter) and a pineapple curry. Get away from it all for a moment comfort zone? Then go for a beer pairing with your vegetarian rice table. They are super tasty Lowlander beers at the rice table. And not only is the food delicious, the decor is also impressive. Mama Makan, a beautiful and delicious Indo.

Tolhuistuin aka THT

Tolhuistuin aka THT

The new classics, that's what we call Amsterdam restaurants that have been doing their thing for a few years (five years or more) and still stand head and shoulders above their new (sometimes a bit too) hip competitors. It falls into that category no bullshit restaurant THT, which is part of the Tolhuistuin (the garden with wooden hut is our absolute favorite spot during the summer months).

Cross the IJ behind the central station with the ferry, find a table in the large, frill-free room (even if you don't have a reservation, you will always find a spot) that is very child-friendly (and dims when they go to bed). the lamps and it is suddenly cozy, romantic and still cozy), as well as extremely sweet for the vegetarian or vegan fellow man. The menu, which is tasty as standard and really has something for everyone, has a striking number of vegetarian options, without restaurant THT sells itself as such. Look, we like that, because less meat is the new normal.

Lebanese restaurants

Lebanese restaurants

When we think of vegetarian restaurants, we quickly think of NENI, because man oh man, it's a party there every time. We prefer to fill the entire table with mezze or order the chef's menu. Hummus, labneh, baba ghanoush, falafel: bring it on. Not that they only serve vegetarian dishes, but the Balagan menu can be ordered completely vegetarian or vegan (and you want that!).

But actually, we have to admit, the Lebanese restaurants are all doing well when it comes to vegetarian menus. These are the favorite Lebanese restaurants in Amsterdam.

Mediamatic

Mediamatic

Who Mediamatic know a little, know that they stand for new developments, art and sustainability. Combined if possible. Lectures, workshops and art projects are hosted there. And there is always something new to discover. And that discovery translates into Mediamatic's restaurant. The food they serve there is 100% plant based, take the environment into account and cook a lot with local products.

Meatless District Amsterdam

Meatless District Amsterdam

Meatless District, inspired by New York's Meatpacking District, but without the meat. The menu is extensive and completely without meat and other animal products - so it is still possible, as the two prove. Salads on that menu, of course, that goes without saying, but if you didn't know yet, they are well filled. Furthermore, a vegetarian burger (very very good that is), coconut yoghurt (!), smoothie and fruit bowls, banana bread with chocolate and peanut butter (!!) and… vegan wine. No joke. On to the Meatless District.

Meatless District Amsterdam

Lavinia

Lavinia

It is a personal downtown favorite for lunch and remains so. The cozy Lavinia does serve meat, but for the side: the shop mainly serves salads, French toast and pancakes and divine gluten-free tortillas. Now not only on Kerkstraat but also on Amstelveenseweg. We just have to wait and see when they actually open again, but then we'll lose.

Vegan Sushi Bar Amsterdam

Vegan Sushi Bar Amsterdam

Fair's fair. When we think of vegan sushi, we immediately think of simple rolls such as cucumber, avocado and possibly a piece of mango (for the enthusiast). At the Vegan Sushi Bar In Amsterdam we no longer have to view things so gloomy. Here they make some of their sushi with homemade fish substitutes. Soy shrimp and tofu crab. It's worth a try.

The Meets

The Meets

Meet de The Meets: the place is cozy and everything that comes out of the small kitchen is 80% plant-based, never contains more than 20% animal products, but is 100% tasty - that is the successful goal. The Meets gets bonus points for being non-standard: the carnivore also feels at home here and, thanks to the Meets, learns wellington, risotto and the delicious chocolate mouse with forest fruits and a peanut brittle.

The Meets

Trevis

Trevis

Trevis can be found in De Pijp. Don't expect too much splendor in terms of interior, but be surprised by chef Salah's cooking skills. It is therefore highly recommended to use the takeaways option. They have that and then you can eat your plant-based Italian meal at home. This way you take a piece of Italy home with you, at Trevi's they even promise that you don't have to go to Italy anymore. Anyway, that might be a bit of an exaggeration because Italy, there's little better than that.

De Dyck - Woubrugge

De Dyck - Woubrugge

This green gem in Woubrugge (near Amsterdam) takes the meaning of 'homegrown' to a new level. With a Green Michelin star in my pocket, late De Dyck see how sustainability and top gastronomy go hand in hand. In the circular world of De Dyck everything is aimed at being self-sufficient all year round. The food is cooked from our own vegetable garden, partly freshly prepared and partly fermented. And that is damn delicious! The creative brain behind the cooking arts: chef Martijn Koeleman conjures up the most beautiful dishes on your plate with what the earth offers (according to the season). Every dish is packed with love and appears on your plate with care and respect for nature. We are fans.

Ferret Den Bosch

Ferret Den Bosch

Fret is located in the cozy Postelstraat in Den Bosch. A handsome eatery in the style of a classic bistro in combination with Scandinavian minimalism and a raw Berlin edge. An atmosphere that has caught on because it has been pleasantly busy since the opening, both inside and on the terrace. Linger from early morning with Overnight Oats of scrambled (no) eggs until lunch and in the evening with tempeh satay, a rich burger or stuffed eggplant. Or all day with a vegan cocktail, cauliflower wings or plant-based bitterballen on the side. Tried and tested: the one thing on the menu that you absolutely cannot miss is the Fret Burger from Redefine Meat. Described in one word: fantastic. Described in several words: such a tasty burger, made 100% plant-based and tasting like real traditional meat. Made with a 3D printer (the Fret girls found that exciting), but in terms of texture, smell, juiciness and taste, in our opinion, 10 points.

The Green House, Utrecht

The Green House, Utrecht

Green, greener, greenest. 80% of the menu consists of vegetables and the remaining 20% is fish or meat. All products come from Dutch soil and are sustainably produced. All fruit and vegetables come from our own urban farm on the first floor. How cool is that. The ambition of The Green House is to cook without electricity in a few years. It doesn't get any greener than this. Off to Utrecht!

The Social Hub, Groningen

The Social Hub, Groningen

Groningen also has one (probably several, but we'll stick to this one for now) and it's also worth it in Groningen, The SocialHub. Lots of LED lighting, pink and yellow tones and trendy types. You know how it is, everything with a creative edge. And you can also go there for more than tasty vegetarian/vegan dishes.

LOC Brewery Tilburg

LOC Brewery Tilburg

Tilburg, the city where we had too much fun far too often. And the city just keeps getting nicer and nicer. This is also the case in the Spoorzone, where one hip spot after another is opening. At LOC Brewery we have been hanging out with a beer on the terrace or at the tap, uhh bar. But with a slight change to the menu, it has become a city favorite. At LOC Brewery they now prove that beer not only tastes good with a snack from the brown fruit bowl. With the seasonal shared dining recipes, a number of fantastic main courses, and the addition of desserts, LOC went in a new direction. And we can agree with that side. For example, we were blown away by the vegetarian 'Nasu Dengaku', buttery eggplant combined with unami, sweet miso and cucumber, pickled chili oil and vinegar. In our opinion, it tasted great with an IPA or a wheat beer. Yes, with the small tasting glasses you can try several with your dish. We also loved roasted Hokkaido pumpkin, especially with an autumnal beer. That doesn't mean they don't cook anything with meat or fish: there is pulled beef or pork on the menu, but we simply thought the Vega dishes were the tastiest.

Capriole Cafe, The Hague

Capriole Cafe, The Hague

You will find it hidden at the Fokkerhaven Capriole Café. With a terrace on the water, you can come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can enjoy the sturdy and refined dishes from the kitchen of chef Diego Buik (no, there is no such thing as a coincidence). The menu does not consist exclusively of plant-based or vegetarian dishes, but there is plenty of choice.

Het Nonnetje, Harderwijk

Het Nonnetje, Harderwijk

Please note, this is a very tasty one! Bee Het Nonnetje in Harderwijk (of all places) you can eat all the delicacies that chef Michel van der Kroft prepares in his kitchen. 6x vegetarian friendly restaurants in Maastricht

6x vegetarian friendly restaurants in Maastricht

When you say Maastricht, you say sour meat. And cheese. And pie. Indeed, the vegan food scene in Maastricht is not really a thing yet. What is not there can still come and fortunately in the south you will find more and more places where you can eat well as a non (or less) meat-eating Burgundian. These are the tastiest vegetarian restaurants in Maastricht
