Sustainable travel made a little easier thanks to brands like SUITSUIT
Sustainable living, where to start? Choice of materials, fair prices, toxic substances. It can sometimes sound a bit overwhelming, all the stories you read, but choosing sustainability is actually quite simple. The easiest way to contribute to sustainability is to choose brands that invest in better materials, fair wages, and make items that last. Traveling isn't the cleanest activity in life, but without tourism, entire communities would lose their income. So yes, travel, but preferably better. And that's why we like to choose great brands that take this into account, like SUITSUIT. This Dutch brand's efforts are significant, and we'd like to briefly explain them. So that your next euro also contributes to 'better travel'.
Traveling is about finding a balance between enjoyment and the impact you make. Issues like CO2 emissions, overtourism, and gender inequality are challenges in the travel industry. What if the trips you take could have a positive contribution can deliver in these areas. Do you choose locally owned B&Bs or hotels that are committed to nature management in the region? Or do you participate in a beach clean-up Or support a local brand that creates opportunities for women. This way, your enjoyment also contributes to something good locally.
How do you do that? When booking your hotel, check their environmental efforts. Or find a local initiative focused on conservation or local communities. And donate or volunteer for a morning. Choose hotels and brands that give back to nature and Communities.
The tourism industry continues to grow. However, not everyone benefits from tourism growth. Women still face gender inequality worldwide. SUITSUIT has also established a wonderful initiative: the SUITSUIT Foundation, which invests 10% of its net profits in projects that contribute to women's independence in the travel and tourism sector. Your euro supports projects for talent development of women in Namibia, tourism training for women from mountainous regions in Nepal, and nature conservation in Patagonia.
What does it do for you? Besides helping communities far away, SUITSUIT also inspires women here to "travel better." Through travel—near or far, alone or with someone—they seek out experiences that contribute to self-confidence and personal development.
September 27th is World Tourism Day, and this year the focus is on the sustainable transformation of tourism. SUITSUIT is also eager to participate. They completely understand: travel (and especially air travel) is increasingly under scrutiny. How does that relate to sustainability? And how does that align with the desire to interact more consciously with the world? They believe these are valid questions. Yet, for SUITSUIT, sustainability means more than just "going green." It's also about social and economic sustainability. Travel brings much more than just miles and suitcases: it provides growth, encounters, cultural connection, and equal opportunities. Especially for women, worldwide.
Sustainable travel is therefore a matter of balance: increasing the positive impact of travel and minimizing the negative. And that is precisely what they want to contribute to. As a proud B Corp They are committed to more than just profit. They operate according to high standards of social and environmental impact, transparency, and responsible business conduct. B Corp certification focuses on five pillars: good governance, employees, community (including JEDI – Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion), environment, and collective impact.
What else can you do? Besides all of the foregoing regarding choosing brands and organizations that are committed to doing good, there is only one thing left for you: enjoy the beautiful, exciting, challenging and relaxing journeys you make.
