Traveling alone: these are the best solo travel hotels in the Netherlands & Belgium
We're ridin' soloVacationing with the people you love is wonderful, but chances are you won't be able to get back into zen mode. You adjust to the group's pace, weigh everyone's plans, and often, it's all about having a good time. Not that we're complaining, but there's simply little time to truly check in with yourself. And then there's also the chance that you really want to go on vacation, but your schedules just don't align.
Traveling solo is truly the best gift you can give yourself. It's about doing exactly what you want. And that doesn't mean you end up in a cold hotel room with nothing but room service. And it doesn't mean you have to immediately head off to the other side of the world on your own. These solo travel hotels in the Netherlands and Belgium understand that traveling alone, close to home, is also possible and can even feel luxurious.
Now we do understand that solo travel is a bit bold can feel. Alone at the bar, alone at the table, no one to chat with. You can effortlessly tackle that awkward feeling here by simply towering above everything. The rooms of The Standard BrusselsThe rooms only start on the sixth floor, meaning you're literally above the city. Brussels suddenly feels smaller, especially in the Junior Suites where the city is your evening entertainment. Curtains open, bath on, and the evening is yours.
The hotel's layout is also perfect for solo travelers. There are plenty of places to disappear unnoticed, like a hidden table in the bar, quiet corners in the garden, or simply your own room with thick curtains and a view. Meanwhile, downstairs, the atmosphere is lively. Locals frequent the restaurant, the rooftop terrace is buzzing, and you can choose whether to join in the fun or maintain your own.
The location in the redeveloped Noordwijk district also helps. You're just off the beaten track, yet within walking distance of everything you want to see. And after a day exploring Brussels, you'll return to a hotel that also looks exceptionally good.
Well, it can be that simple: if you're nervous about taking your first solo trip, but you're definitely looking forward to it, remember that the Netherlands also has some wonderful destinations. With the hustle and bustle of your daily life, a solo escape close to home might just be the ultimate gift to yourself. In fact, in a time when everything is geared towards two people, there are also Dutch accommodations specifically designed for solo travelers. For example hotel Mooirivier on the Overrijselse Vecht.
A solo package can be booked all year round, including a culinary experience at Restaurant Aan de Oever. And Mooirivier regularly organizes yoga retreats, ideal for solo experience.

The Tiny Houses of Nutchel Cozy Cabins, in the forest village of Les Ardennes. You could move right in. The adventure begins at the Cosy Chalet: the reception, honesty shop, terrace, and reading nook. A gathering place where you can roast marshmallows by the fire pit in the evening, open a book, or simply contemplate, completely on your own. Back to basics at its best. Each cabin has its own terrace with a picnic table. Traveling alone? Then this is your own little haven to completely unwind. Don't feel like grocery shopping? Order a basket full of goodies from local and organic suppliers: breakfast, brunch, BBQ, or even Raclette (vegetarian also available). This way, you can cook just for yourself, exactly how you like it, or simply have the food prepared for you while you relax in the warmth of your wood-burning stove.
The cabins are sustainably built and furnished. A wood-burning stove provides warmth in the center of each cabin, while 70% of the lighting comes from oil lamps and candles. Several restaurants are within a fifteen-minute walk, but many solo guests prefer to stay in their cabins, journaling, listening to a guided meditation, or taking a dip in the hot tub while the surrounding nature flows silently.
In the east of the Netherlands, between the city of Oldenzaal and the village of De Lutte, lies De Wilmersberg estate: a sustainable hotel with luxurious hotel rooms and a spa with an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish steam bath and various massages and facial treatments.
Well, Landgoed De Wilmersberg isn't called an estate for nothing, so it's certainly large: fourteen hectares of land, to be precise. Because of these hectares, it boasts a peaceful setting, offering a complete escape from the hustle and bustle. For many, the Twente region is arguably the most beautiful in the Netherlands: rolling countryside, unique architecture, and greenery almost everywhere. You don't even have to leave the hotel for a good restaurant; they're right there. The restaurant serves three-, four-, or five-course menus, or you can simply choose everything from scratch. The kitchen team primarily cooks vegetarian dishes, but meat or fish lovers can add them.
And especially for travelers who come without company, they have a solo arrangement, which includes dinner and a complimentary visit to the spa.

Have you seen how many new catering establishments there are? late is open in Amsterdam? You want to try it out! And then you'll immediately add a solo trip to the capital. Ideally at Pillows Maurits at the Park. You can always wake us up for a night in a Pillows Hotel. Apparently, we're not the only ones who think so, because the chain continues to grow. In addition to beautiful hotels in Ghent en Brussels (They're also great solo, they have more!) There's also Maurits At the Park in Amsterdam's Oosterpark. An old university building on Mauritskade was renovated for five years and opened in November 2022. Pillows Maurits At The Park its doors. Besides sleeping wonderfully, you can also enjoy a wonderful meal here: fine dining at VanOost Restaurant or join us at Spring Cafe Brasserie. Where to end the evening is a simple one-two punch: at Fitz's Bar.
TheUsual is anything but usual. A few minutes' walk from Brussels-North station, you'll find this sustainable design hotel with bright rooms, a crisp white bed, and a breakfast that makes us very happy. Quiche, juices, and all kinds of other freshly baked sweets for a good start to the day. Not as grand as its Rotterdam sister, but therefore extra cozy, and at least as stylish. The Corner Rooms? They treat you to a view of futuristic towers like the Zuidas and classic Brussels splendor: a nice combination.
The theme is eco chic: from green roofs and recycled materials like cork, to goodies from local makers. The interior is minimalist with earth tones, but has a good pop of color. We like.
P.S. There is also a The Usual in Rotterdam, nice and close to home!
Spend the night in the Netherlands at Freeport Zwier; yes please! We're a bit smitten with the place and have written about it enthusiastically before. Who wouldn't want to stay in a harbor house with access to a hot tub and sauna? Or enjoy a sunset from a bell tent? Or cruise along the water after everyone has long since gone home? Exactly. Even for those still unconvinced campers, we highly recommend Zwier.
For those who want to explore solo, there are also twelve private Haven Rooms. It's a great place to retreat, surrounded by flowers and by the water. It doesn't get any better than this. If you'd like, you can enjoy a delicious meal at Vrijhaven Zwier. That means a whole weekend of delicious vegetarian and organic meals from the Huiskamer—bring it on!
