Coffee, breakfast and lunch in Ghent
We have now lost count of how many times we have been to Ghent - with great pleasure. The beautiful historic buildings, the vibrant city life and the pleasant catering industry provide a great experience every time yay-feeling. We previously wrote a laundry list of delicious ones hotels and b&b's. We supplemented the Ghent tips with tastiest restaurants. And here we collect places for coffee, breakfast and lunch. Because on an empty stomach - and without a cup of coffee - we don't do anything at all, of course. Anyway, on to the tastiest cup of coffee, cinnamon buns en eggs anything from Ghent.
It's a nice city, but if you also appreciate some greenery and walking, then take a look Scheldeland region. This rural region is located right next to Ghent, where you can sleep in peace, start the day with a walk in a nature reserve and perhaps visit a castle.
The best coffee in Ghent, we were told. Specialty coffee that is. WAY has the roastery and flagship in the trendy Dok Noord. And one takeaway coffee bar (with some benches outside) in the heart of the center. At the flagship they also have good breakfast and lunch options such as an acai bowl, toast with kimchi and other trendy foods. At the takeaway they have coffee and sweets and that is sometimes exactly what you need.

Lucky bird, playful bird or rather a high flyer? At De Parkiet you can spread your wings for a delicious lunch and a good cup of coffee. Atmosphere and conviviality are of paramount importance here and you will not go hungry or thirsty. At De Parkiet the atmosphere is wonderfully authentic and a bit nostalgic, without being old-fashioned. Having trouble leaving the cozy terrace along the Leie? Then come back in the evening for a tasty aperitif or a relaxing dinner.

Highly recommended at Dok Noord: Amour. In May 2019, Johanna and Yassin Pycke, the twin sisters behind the Pycke Zot café, opened their second restaurant there. At Amour you can enjoy an extensive buffet every day with salads, hot dishes and snacks, inspired by the seasons and market offerings. In addition to lunch, you can also enjoy a delicious breakfast or dinner and on Sundays you can enjoy a delicious brunch buffet. Good to know: almost all dishes are gluten- and lactose-free and vegan.

Our favorite meal of the day all day order? It is possible at Luv L'oeuf in Ghent. At Luv L'oeuf it is breakfast time all day long. Until 17.00 p.m. Here you can brave your hangover in style, have brunch in the afternoon or take your new crush for one early date. Reservations are not available at this hugely popular breakfast spot and there is a line every day, so be prepared for that. The reason? Insanely and photogenic (after all, the eye wants something too) prepared dishes, which are also delicious. As the name suggests, they have a preference for eggs here (bio-beauties of good-natured chickens): from Shakshuka to classics as French toast. With a twist. The choice is also great for non-egg lovers, or the vegans among us. Tip from Flip: the berry white pancakes with white chocolate pearls. To die for! Install yourself in a velvet chair behind the breakfast bar by the large window, go for a Boozy Breakfast with a Bellini or Mimosa and let it... weekendvibes but in kick. Did anyone need more information?

Do you want delicious coffee and you don't necessarily need it with cow's milk (old fashion, right), then you go straight to Full Circle Ghent. This beautiful place serves everything 100% plant-based. Yes, everything. This (also) results in many vegan treats for your coffee. For example, they have donuts (!) from Bakery Frimout, a household name in the city and therefore an extra nice bonus if you want to have a drink at Full Circle.

You cannot miss this wonderful spot when you are walking through the center of Ghent. It's one no bullshit just a great place to start your day and sit down to plan your route must visit to categorize. It should not be missing from this list, because it is an excellent combination tip: next door you will find Kultur Bakery, see further down this list. We advise you, with a little pressure, not to have anything tasty with your coffee (besides the cookie that you get here as standard with your coffee)... You really want to go a step further for that. The coffee beans from Take Five Espresso Bar come from De Witte Zwaan – a Ghent coffee bean. Like!

Bar Bidon is a bar that serves cups of coffee bikes are combined – a tried and tested recipe for many years. And yes, also a recipe that invariably results in groups of cyclists having a cup of coffee here before starting the day tour. So nice. In addition to getting coffee and lots of goodies, you can also go here for a bicycle gears. Kids bicycles, cycling supplies and more. You name it, they have it.

Kultur Bakery is a new, fresh and tasty (on all fronts) bakery in the center of Ghent. Everything to be extremely popular from the moment it opens – we understand! Owner and well-known Ghent resident Mathieu Dierinck thought there were plenty of tasty deli shops in Ghent, but a really good baker? Nah. It was still missing. This shortcoming was quickly resolved when Mathieu closed his doors Kultur Bakery Ghent threw open. All the bread that comes out of the ovens is baked on the basis of sourdough. The croissants and pastries look made to perfection (and what we tasted tasted just like it) and Culture Bakery cannot be caught in any error. So step inside and fill your bags at this Ghent bakery.

Wonderful place, this Vandekerckhove Coffee Roastery & bar. In the summer months you can sit outside on the stools in front of the door, but in bad weather it is also a great place to stay inside the shop. Vandekerckhove works with its own beans and they are delicious! Plus: making your own products always makes the experience extra fun. There is also a small shopping area with coffee Always in style with ATF! for the enthusiast: filter coffee equipment, espresso tricks and others utilities.

At Stek Ghent you sit among the plants, in a beautiful vintage interior and with a delicious breakfast and brunch menu. The dishes look absolutely stunning and therefore make for a wonderfully photogenic snapshot. It's fun inside, it's even more fun outside in the courtyard.

Do you know Ghent Classics: the colorful Ghent building where 'Simon Says' has been located for a number of years is a household name in the city; it has been good and cozy as standard for 3 years. Not only in the coffee and lunch bar (note, these are mainly quiches, not well-filled sandwiches or overflowing salads), but certainly also in the B&B above. There are only two rooms and Simon is popular, so get there on time! You don't have to worry about the price: 110 euros for the two of you for one night. Simon Says
Looking for a breakfast and lunch place that offers complete... vegan is? We found it for you in the center of Ghent. Knol&Kool is a lunchroom and organic supermarket in one. Whether you are looking for cake, a sandwich, a stew or a cup of soup: they have everything here. c. Finished eating? Then be sure to take a look in the store. The supermarket is a danger in itself - if shopping is a hobby of yours, then you want to spend hours looking at all the jars in the store. Ghent residents even come to Knol&Kool especially to make their own peanut butter, which they say turns out to be the tastiest.
