The best wine bars in Nijmegen
Look, we love a good glass of wine. In fact, you can hardly give us greater pleasure than with a table full of handsome glasses, still-crunchy bites, and good company. Besides our culinary adventures, we scour the country for the very best places to have a drink. And the city on the Waal? Fortunately, it never disappoints. From a laid-back living room atmosphere to chic at a sleek bar: Nijmegen is teeming with gems. These are the best wine bars where we are more than happy to pull up a chair.
When we really want to splurge in Nijmegen, we invariably head to Wijnbar Buskens on Berg en Dalseweg. Why? Because it is simply always good here. The interior is beautifully sleek and stylish (hello beautiful bar!), but naturally, it is all about what appears in the glasses *and* on your plate. The wine list is impressive and surprising, featuring both crisp whites and deep, complex reds. The very best thing you can do here is ask the team for advice; they will pour your new favorite glass for you in no time. And the best part? You don't have to go anywhere after drinks. Besides excellent bar snacks (oysters! paleta iberico!), you can also enjoy a fantastic and extensive dinner here. Table full, glasses full, and us intensely happy.
For a relaxed atmosphere and top-notch glasses, Bar Lebowski is the place to be. No stiff formality, just the casualness of a cozy pub, but with the wine expertise of a high-end wine bar (fun fact: you can also take your SDEN wine courses here—how cool is that!). What we love about Lebowski is that they don't serve standard house wine. They work with a huge selection of wines by the glass and pick out the finest gems from special countries each season. Whether you go for traditional or just newschoolThe team will happily help you choose. Cozy corners, an incredibly good glass in your hand, and a table full of small bar bites and snacks. Trust us: once you drop by, you'll want to stay.
Atmospheric, warm, and an absolute classic in Nijmegen: Wine Bar Olivier simply cannot be missing from this list. A fantastic place for a long evening catching up or a date night where you want to be absolutely sure that the romance is spot on. The ambiance feels like a warm blanket and the wine list is impeccable. We invariably let the sommelier surprise us here (always a good idea). Add a magnificent cheese board to that, and you’ll understand why we love dining here so much.
