My first time: Baut Amsterdam

My first time: Baut Amsterdam

Of course, we mainly do that 'first time' for things that have already proven themselves. So we can see if that is still correct. You understand. We'll kick it off with restaurant Baut Amsterdam, the traveling restaurant circus of Chef Michiel van der Eerde, where I, Barts Buddy Milou, had never eaten before...

Now you're probably thinking... Never eaten at Baut?! That must be a mistake. It is too. And because Maartje is a big fan of restaurant Baut (you can here for example, reading), it was a logical move to have a bite to eat together. For the kick-off of this section, of course. Everything for the business. The men were also allowed to come along for the occasion. Come on.

Baut is now located at its sixth location, in the Magdalenakapel on Spaarndammerstraat. Under the leadership of chef Michiel van der Eerde, the 'traveling Baut circus' has now moved from South, via the center and Amsterdam East to Amsterdam West. The location is great, the decor even nicer. Lots of colour, a funny mix of old and new furniture (our table was next to a bed - handy for relaxing) and paintings on the wall.

Now you're probably thinking, you've never eaten at Baut before, that must be a mistake. It is too. And because Maartje is a big fan of Baut (you can here en here for example, reading), it was a logical move to have a bite to eat together.

After a drink at the bar it was time for food. Special beers, bubbles and a cocktail if you want. We usually skip that cocktail, the rest was great of course. What it's all about is the service, of course. And then at the table. Where the real party started: oysters to start with, because for the first time you have to pull out all the stops. Three different types, especially the Asian variety was a favorite. As a starter, beets with burrata pear and almonds were waiting for us. Unfortunately, I have a nut allergy – stupid because until six years ago I was allowed to eat them. Knowing what you're missing, so to speak - and I couldn't taste this. But I was told that it was very good and above all it looked very nice. The eye also wants something, especially the first time. Luckily I got a nice replacement; the 'Salmon tataki'. After the main course, a buttery-soft piece of meat, a dessert was of course inevitable; apricot, passion fruit and white chocolate. So, so tasty.

Many a good dish and a few bottles of wine later, it was time to leave Baut behind us. The babysitter wanted to go home again (because Bartje) and we evaluated this first time with a last beer at the pub around the corner. Conclusion: my first time at Baut is definitely one to do again (fortunately this is still possible at this location until September 2019, after which they will move on) and about which I would like to tell others. Because the food was really delicious, but we were also very happy with the pleasant, extremely good service at Baut. Just the right wine (we drank a red one of which we thought a bottle should cost at least 6 euros (no, we don't look very closely at the menu on such an evening) but in the end it turned out to be less than 40 euros. And yes, You can brag a little about your first time like that.
