Trompenburg: the green oasis of Rotterdam
Do you want to unwind for a bit? Put your phone away, stop checking how many steps you've taken, and just enjoy a nice walk? Then go here: Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum in Kralingen (and bring your date).
Trompenburg originated in 1820, when the area was still marshland (believe it or not). The garden did not open to the public until 1958, and since then the foundation has managed a collection of over 4.000 species of trees, shrubs, and perennials here. Officially, it now even counts as a museum. A green museum, that much is clear.
The walking path winds past water features, benches where you can quietly admire all the greenery, and a large greenhouse filled with cacti and succulents from North and South Africa. An oasis of tranquility in the middle of the city, and as far as we're concerned, the ultimate date spot.
Halfway through your walk, you pop into a small tea house to grab a cup of tea and a treat to enjoy outside. And for those who want to take something green home: there is also a shop with gift items and plants.
