Mini break near Maastricht: Buitengoed de Gaard

We make no secret of the fact that you can wake us up for a spontaneous city trip, but it is only really relaxing when we are far away from everything. And that's you De Gaard estate. Ok, Roermond is around the corner and our dearest Maastricht is a 45-minute drive away, but you mainly come here to enjoy nothing. And for a good portion of fresh air.

Buitengoed de Gaard consists of a stylish old farmhouse, where hostess Anja lives with her family. Together with her husband Bas, she does everything she can to fully pamper the guests. A personal card, fresh pie on arrival and the children can help feed the cuddly goats. We think it's sweet. At the edge of the meadow there are a number of gypsy wagons where you can spend the night in a box bed. Sounds cozy, it is. And yet: we always get the creeps from these huts on wheels, but that is also because of the name. Call us spoiled, but we only like these types of cars on the Parade, so we'll skip that one.

And that's where you are, at Buitengoed de Gaard. Ok, Roermond is around the corner and our dearest Maastricht is a 45-minute drive away, but you mainly come here to enjoy nothing. And for a good portion of fresh air.

Fortunately, there is also a cozy house where the six of you can relax. This converted kiosk is less suitable for very small children, because of the scary spiral staircase to the tower room. You will have a great time here with slightly older offspring. The house has a nice living room and a bathroom with bath. A claw-foot bath at that, so you've stolen our hearts. Outside there is a serious hot tub where you can also enjoy a dip in the middle of winter (that's right!). It does take an hour or so of heating, but the reward is great after all the hard work. You have time, it's vacation.

That about the estate. In our opinion, the reason to travel south for a weekend is really the environment. The municipality of Leudal is Limburg at its most beautiful, a vast nature reserve where it is beautiful every season. This landscape will never be boring, I promise.
