Museo del Jamon, Madrid (Centre)
The name suggests a tourist trap and it is, a bit, if it weren't for the fact that around seven o'clock the place is packed with Madrilenians, who come here for just one euro. cup (beer) and a ham sandwich come and enjoy, the last of which involves a crispy slice of delicious Spanish raw ham. One euro! How brilliant? You are standing in the butcher's shop, around a U-shaped bar, where the ham legs hang decoratively from the ceiling. Carving such hams seems to be an art, and the proud butchers clearly take pride in their work. Busy and noisy with lightning-fast service, a great place for a quickie, if, like the Spaniards, you don't really eat/dinner until around ten or eleven at night. Bart just wanted to mention it, otherwise you would probably skip it. There are several branches in the city, but the one in Carrera de San Jerónimo is beautifully old-fashioned and centrally located. Read here more about Museo del Jamon.
