New in the Houthavens: Carat Amsterdam
The youngest district of Amsterdam is the Houthaven. Or is it the Amsterdam Houthavens? Oh, peteeto petaato. The fact is that new homes are being delivered here, where (young) families often move in, creative people (you know, the early adapters) and people who managed to spend their pension money well. And where people go, excellent catering addresses are delivered. Of which act. The latest in the list: Carat Amsterdam.
First of all Carat Amsterdam not just your next catering business in Amsterdam. No no: Carats in HUGE. Carat covers more than 650 square meters, spread over three floors. There is a spacious bistro where beer barrels hang above the tables and where you can tap your own beer. A digital screen under your table keeps track of what you tap and at the end of your Karaat outing you pay for everything. Nice indeed (and perfect for a party and/or those weekend days where you never know where and what time they will end). The brasserie serves light and simple dishes, but also a burger for larger appetites.
Of course - because hello Houthavens - there is an equally large and sunny terrace and attractive seating areas and corners have been created so that the large spacious never feels too large and impersonal. The latter, never becoming impersonal, can also be due to all the art in the room, the plants, the colorful furniture and artistic lamps: it's as always all in the details and the details are excellent in the case of Karat.
Brasserie check, terrace check, corners check. And then there is also a beautiful, somewhat quieter restaurant for better and longer dining. Dishes from the raw bar are brought to the table in the high space. Things like large Fine de Clair oysters, salmon and mackerel with samphire. But also Goat Cheese Tortellini, Beetroot Salad, Spicy Eggplant, Free Range Chicken, Lobster and Australian Bavette, to name a few. For lunch there are salads, fresh soup (always something different), a variety of egg dishes (always good) and sandwiches of which we can already say that the Pastrami Toastie is one of our favorites. Although it also makes us happy grab and go baguettes such as those with beef sausage or file americain – perfect for all companies that have established themselves in the Houthavens.
