Pele Surf Shack: the newest shack on the beach where you want to stay

If you have a surfing school on the left and a surfing school on the right, then you know: it has to be in the middle laid-back are. After all; where there are surfers left and right, there is a relaxed atmosphere, as we at Bart always say (really always). And because surfers set that relaxed tone - left and right - the middle has to be super mellow. Got it. That is why the former beach club Globetrotter, which closed down its beach club after 25 years of loyal service, was the dream location for Charlotte Damen & Barend Lippens for their ultra-relaxed beach club. Pele Surf Shack.

We are talking about the surfers' section of Hoek van Holland, you know, on the coast of Rotterdam. There has Pele Surf Shack now the old new doors are opened. And at beach bar Pele they are straightforward (hihi): they are both soft and vegetable. Gentle because they act on the barefoot policy. In other words: the three magic words mellow, casual and approachable are of paramount importance. Plant-based because – drum roll please – Pele Surf Shack is the first completely plant-based beach bar in the Netherlands. So no nonsense here, just act normal - and therefore laid back.

With this, Charlotte and Barend want (and are) to become the counterpart of the established, hip beach bars. That's why everything is plant-based and the menu can be summarized in four words: bowls, burgers, pancakes and snacks. Citizens? Yes, civilians too. From sea food burgers to imitation cheese burgers, that is also possible at Pele.

Pele doesn't make any fuss about interior design either. Think lots of rattan, lots of hanging plants and lights, oh and surfboards. That one too. Yes, they might be the relaxing hut on the beach. Oh, and they serve Hawaiian beers. So uhh, hello, how surf can you get it? So surf dudes and dudettes, bathers and sun worshipers, three magic words: Pele Surf Shack.
