From the stable of Wolf Atelier: now on Noorderstraat – restaurant Amice (Amsterdam)
New business from a well-known name in the city? Then sharpens Amsterdam the ears. And rightly so. Because, chef, michael wolf, the man behind Wolf Atelier, has added a second address: friend. By Wolf’s side: Jordy Koopmans, with whom he has been working for more than fifteen years, from Envy to Wolf Atelier.
On Noorderstraat, in a building that once housed a Thai restaurant, it is now warm, bright, and a touch of living-room chic. Lots of wood, deep green and brown tones, and a bar where you linger for a drink—indeed, even before dinner. Bonus points for the walk-in wine room where you can pick out your own bottle. A real treat.
The interior is made Concrete (that might not mean anything to you at first glance, but these are also the people behind the interior design of Restaurant 212 and NENI Amsterdam), and they certainly know how to turn a narrow, dark space into a cozy spot.
But of course, it’s all about the food. Where Wolf Atelier goes for set menus and fine dining, Amice does things differently: more relaxed, more accessible. No classic starters and main courses, but dishes centered around a single ingredient. Eight products on the menu, from langoustine to squid and from pointed cabbage to tomato, with two preparations per product. For example, raw and from the BBQ, or pickled and sautéed. Just a little bit different from the norm.
Everything à la carte, everything seasonal, and (we might as well mention it) reasonably priced: most dishes sit between 14 and 24 euros. You're going to be ordering big.
