Restaurant Basaal in The Hague is our go-to for 070

Oh oh The Hague, there is so much deliciousness and beauty in the city behind the dunes. There is a lot to choose from in 070 these days, but if you were to ask us for a top 5 if we really had to choose; then... Restaurant Basaal Definitely among them. Our enthusiasm started after the opening in 2021, and they continue to generate that enthusiasm time and time again. Here you will find incredibly good wines, delicious snacks, and fantastic bites in an ambiance that commands respect—urban, modern, and approachable—but with the truly excellent service you expect. We are sold and never want anything else. is the place to be" in The Hague: Restaurant Basaal.

The neighborhood you shouldn't go to

The neighborhood you shouldn't go to

Restaurant Basaal is located on the Dunne Bierkade, a canal that hides between The Hague Central Station and The Hague Holland Spoor. A neighborhood where you didn't necessarily have to visit for a long time. From this dodgy end-However, you no longer notice any quality: the canal has been renovated and there are several cozy tents. You can park in front of the door (for a maximum of 2 hours) and are therefore easily accessible by public transport.

Outside in the summer we think it would be wonderful to spend time on the quay, where you can also sit on their large terrace.

At Basaal they clearly knew how to start such a restaurant. The interior is simple yet stylish. It reminds us a bit Scandinavian. No frills or frills, but still cozy.

The wine list impresses. It is a mixed list of wines from all over Europe: big growers, small names, but all tasted and purchased with taste. The host is very pleasant and knowledgeable and tells more about the wines with love. But you also know when enough has been said and you just need to drink. A real catering heart.

When you order wine, do yourself a favor and have a snack (or two) with it. The potato bread is a classic with a nice twist - because it is always on the menu, but the recipe always changes. When you say Basaal you say potato bread – so don't miss this one on your evening out.

In terms of “real” dishes you have nothing to complain about. There are some smaller bites, call them starters, and some nice main meals. We would mix and match apply it and let everything happen. The celeriac is heavenly, with a mix of porcini bread that makes it wonderfully full of flavor. The tuna is one must, because almost nowhere have we had it better and more surprising than at Basaal.

Dumplings are delicious and also look wonderfully cozy. Let yourself be offered a new glass with every bite, because that will bring the ultimate out of your dishes. If you prefer non-alcoholic drinks, there are delicious lemonades (homemade) that are also definitely worth a try.

If Basaal isn't on your favorite The Hague list yet, something is really going wrong.
