But of course, a business is more than just a sunny terrace. Even in rainy weather, Stadsbrouwerij de Maastrichter Maltese is a nice retreat. The name says it all: we are talking about a brewery here. And about a beer shop. And, and, and about a brasserie. Not all in the same room, but in a historic building of the former Ridderbrouwerij. So let's say a three-under-one-monumental roof.

The Maastricht Maltese attach great importance to hospitality. That's why a history lesson is so useful. Time for some trivia: beer has been brewed in the former Ridder Brewery since 1857. The Maastrichter Maltezer city brewery is an ode to the historic De Ridder Maltese beer that was first brewed in 1954. Until 2002, when the Ridderbrouwerij – the only active brewery in the Limburg capital – closed its doors after almost 150 years.

The building stood empty for fifteen years, until it reopened its doors last summer as City Brewery de Maastrichter Maltezer. This gets this shoen part of Maastricht finally some flair. The brewery is being breathed into life (ha!). And Triviant doesn't stop there, because did you know that the Maastricht Maltese brews the classic Ridderbier again? The only one in the Netherlands? Because you asked: it is a reference to the Maltese Knights in Maastrich history. In their time, the Maltese often offered a helping hand to city dwellers. Something that initiators Tom de Lepper and Charles van Goch also like to do, in the form of hospitality, special beers and bar bites. It is not without reason that the motto is: drink and do good. Part of every barrel of beer is donated to the Maltese order in Malta, which in turn helps those in need.

 

So many beer and food combinations at the Maltese. From breakfast to dinner. With emphasis – as we like to interpret it – on the drinks. The menu has many options for shared dining. Add to that all those special beers and there really is something for everyone. We can recommend the Maltese Boulets, meatballs in beer-port sauce, because they taste delicious with a Maltese beer in your hand. And no matter how nice it is inside, Mrs. Sun, you can shine. That beautiful terrace will also look better again.
