If you occasionally hear hysterical screams of happiness on and around the Scheveningen coast... That's us. When the first piles go into the ground on the beaches, we happy and present: the season is here again! With your buttocks in a beach chair, we will take you to the places from the Zuiderstrand to the Noorderstrand and back again. IIncluding a small excursion, into the Scheveningen village as a bonus. Nice place to watch the sun set into the sea, let's go.

Pssst, don't tell anyone else, but this is a nice spot on the Scheveningen beach! Xiringuito Scheveningen is the name, and who is Spanish xiringuito's scene a little knows what to expect. Okay, that's not entirely true: a true Spanish xiringuito is nothing more than a simple hut on the beach, a few beach chairs around it and an ice-cold Mahou on the counter. In the Scheveningen equivalent of the concept, things are a little more extensive: it is a full-fledged beach bar, with a large terrace and surprisingly (!) good food. Why we understand that name: the atmosphere at Xiringuito Scheveningen is friendly, which gives the small-scale feeling and the super chill beach vibe just really we fleek are. Extra bonus point for the good house wine.
Almost at the beginning (or end?) of the Scheveningen boulevard you will find Surf School and Surf Shop Hart Beach. Here you can not only find everything your surfer's heart desires, but the restaurant and terrace are also a great place to spend time. Great sandwiches, salads and burgers, lots of smoothies, juices and other treats (also for kids). Are you going for a acai bowl breakfast or in the evening for various salads or a fresh pizza from the pizza oven. And plenty of sweets as well cheesecake en Brownies. Enjoy after a bit of surfing, or of course while spotting surf dudes en dudettes. For the little ones: Hart Beach also organizes children's parties and surf camps. Awesome dude. And for enthusiasts: Hart Beach also remains standing in the winter.
Next to Hart Beach you will find another extreme, namely a beach restaurant By Waterreus. A household name in Scheveningen, and since 2016 it has been completely given a new, chic, stylish look. Go here if you're really into the mood of its own. you are here for dining on the beach, not for a quick hamburger in your flip-flops. The menu features many – how could it be otherwise – fish specialties (mussels, fried sole, Scheveningen catch of the day), but also for the meat lover (homemade spare ribsThere is plenty of variety for both adults and vegetarians (homemade veggie burger). And the wine list is impressive as well. The interior is beautiful, clearly well thought out, and if it weren't for the stunning view over the beach, you would almost forget that you are in a beach bar. It is called a beach restaurant for a reason, so don't be surprised by the restaurant-worthy prices. organize numerous workshops at the Waterreus, from beach games in Expedition Robinson style to shake cocktails and from farmers beach golf to power kiting. And they come to the Water Giant fully prepared with bad weather scenarios. Kudos. Check the site for the possibilities.
Just no longer on the beach, but certainly part of the Scheveningen boulevard (even the renovated part) Chou Chou, a striking appearance. If you don't like color, continue walking, but you are welcome to have a portion turquoise, purple and yellow and really good food in front of you after a nice day at the beach, then come join us! Admittedly, Restaurant ChouChou is not our normal choice (a bit too much flashy we find it there, and perhaps seeing and being seen a little too much, but somehow that is also part of this side of the Scheveningen boulevard and sometimes, funnily enough, that is just what we feel like). Think: selfiewall and blue cocktails. But if you are there in the mood you are in the TOP here. And it is absolutely delicious, on the menu you will find all kinds of Western and Asian dishes, something different from the average beach bar.
Restaurant Chou Chou
Personal favorite. Value surf vibes dripping from the walls, or well, the surfboards literally floating above your head. And where they can call themselves the most sustainable catering company in the municipality of The Hague. Plastic-free terrace, with 100% organic menu and ingredients from local suppliers. Beach bars and really good coffee is a difficult one match? Not at The Shore, because here they take making coffee very seriously. Beans from Peru, locally roasted by the Roast Factory in The Hague and everything transformed into one latte to die for, with ice in case of heat. This surfing school and meeting place consists of a black container with many windows and furnished with a lot of wood. What do you eat there? Mainly pancakes in all shapes and sizes, with bacon, sweet onion, farmer's cheese and smokey bbq maple cyrup for example, or with banana, blueberries and melted peanut butter. No soft drinks, though smoothies (pink with banana, pineapple, apple and strawberry) or tasty elderflower lemonade. Audience: surfers, skateboarders and everyone who has something to do with that wonderful thing laid back atmosphere where everyone is actually each other's friend. Ooh, and the really good parties that come with it.
It ain't over 'till the fat mermaid sings… or, what was it like again? Anyway, The Fat Mermaid is ready for you again with their organic and local menu. Organic wines, organic lager (from Belgium) and a continuously changing menu with often slightly more original snacks than the standard beach bar menu (think Duck/beef/fish/sweet potato taco (highly recommended!) or a brioche bun with a croquette). But always “normal” enough mermaid lemonades en milkshakes to choose from. And if your beach bar is called the Fat Mermaid and your WiFi password is dollyparton we quickly approve it. Top spot.
It remains beautiful and stands rock solid, Barbarossa with its beautiful wooden construction. Beautiful on the outside and on the inside: a playful layout with white, wood, leather and... navy blue blue. And that fireplace, sigh. Perfect to snuggle up in front of after a long beach walk when the sun has already set and it is getting chilly. Barbarossa offers an extensive selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, even plenty of choice for the kids. And the wine list is impressive too. At most a tad on the expensive side, but Barbarossa is not your average beach bar and could easily pass for a full restaurant. It's worth it.
For a Mediterranean hippie atmosphere, go straight to Beach club Indigo, a cheerful beach bar on the Zwarte Pad. Attractively and colorfully decorated with various large Lounge chairs and seating, great! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it's all possible. We are big fans of the bun with crispy pork belly. At Indigo, they certainly know what a hangover needs. And they have to, because creating hangovers is also one of Indigo's specialties. After all, in the summer you'll find the most delicious parties here. Disco summer hits under the starry sky, but also Indiburn, where the people of The Hague go all out every year with Burning Man-worthy outfits and body paint at Indigo's own festival. They also don't shy away from hysterical 90's parties at Indigo. Confetti in your beer, everything.
Besides hangover food and all that partying, Indigo also has delicious salads: think of a fresh tuna ceviche salad. Not to mention the serious burgers (not just the classic, but also the smashed cheese burger). And an Indigo beach box For the kids (chicken nuggets or fish sticks with fries, applesauce, and mayo or ketchup), what more could you want? See you there.
For serenity and style, walk to the end of the Zwarte Pad, where the nudist beach begins. There you will find Natural (chance? We don't think so *wink*). And whether it is natural, all white, which is what counts. Wonderful for minimalist enthusiasts (and associated Instagram accounts). Natural gets it. Nice and secluded from the other beach bars, so there is an oasis of peace here, and - quietly - nude recreation is not allowed at Naturel and can only be found a bit further away.
At Naturel, you dine purely and honestly; no extensive menu, but dishes with just that special touch. Sandwich with smoked salmon, fresh horseradish,
cucumber and lemon, or their own twist a frikandel speciaal with coral fish, Balinese spices, coconut, tempura and spring onion. Or rather super crispy chicken with drinks? No problemo.

“The very end!” Yes, completely at the end of the Noorderstrand, over NaturalBetween the Zwarte Pad and the nudist beach lies beach pavilion Het Puntje. Actually, it is the only pavilion situated on a truly quiet stretch of beach, even when temperatures hit around 30 degrees. Why is that? Het Puntje is located quite a bit further out than the rest and is especially near the Scheveningen incrowd Popular. A traditional Dutch beach bar, with wicker chairs and round tables. What you see is what you get. Delicious. Spontaneously heading to the beach with your offspring and without any toys? Doesn't matter, there is a bin full of plastic buckets and scoops.
Just turn completely in the other direction, towards south, on the other side of the harbor of Scheveningen is - yes - SOUTH, where you want to go for an extensive – and we really mean extensive – breakfast, fresh pizza from the stone oven, or just a relaxed drink. For lunch, Turkish eggs are highly recommended. Well-deserved after a morning walk through the dunes. In the evening, order a ZUID Beyond Burger (the best veggie burger you’ve eaten in ages, and with homemade burger sauce) or a meat, fish, or vegetarian pizza from the charcoal oven with an organic wine. In between, during the day, enjoy all kinds of toasted sandwiches, cakes, and juices. In short: East, West, South is best. Unpretentious Grote Markt (you know, the nice one). terraces) atmosphere, ZUID is owned by the same operators, that's why. There are also plenty of fun things on ZUID's agenda, so keep an eye on the site.

At Sol not too much fuss. Very simple: here you are behind your own barbecue and cook yourself! Not a fan of barbecue? The menu is full of other dishes (yes, really, full!). From loaded fries (also great with the BBQ), to burgers and a whole lot bites (to share, or perhaps just not). Simply a nice place with something for everyone here.
Ok ok, not really a beach bar and no warm sand under your buttocks here either, but still nice on the list, because you will encounter this on your route to that wonderful beach: Tiger Shark Coffee on Badhuisstraat. BONUS. A touch of Melbourne right on the Dutch coast. You can tell by everything that the beach is just around the corner, so wonderful laid back en beachy are the vibes. Here the sun shines when you are inside and you can sit outside on the terrace with you iced latte (right out of that strong beach wind, you know). Carefully brewed with love by barista (and surfer) Vincent Zwaan who will tell you all about it with love. This man knows what you like (coffee that is). Add a – warm! – piece of homemade banana bread or almond croissant, and you're all set.
