The darlings of The Hague

The darlings of The Hague

Oh oh The Hague, how we like you. Fancy a 24-hour stay in the Hofstad? Then take a tour of these established favorites and fresh ones in the city:

Kaafi

Kaafi

But first: Kaafi. Not new, but still the address for coffee with a point. One of the first, if not the first, to open a luxury coffee bar in the Hofstad. HeightWe were and are so happy with that. The friendly owner and barista Zeeshan Makik serves a perfect cup of coffee with one of the special blends on the machine. Signature 'dish' is the pistachio cardamom cheesecake, baked fresh every day by his mother. Taste you. Arrange a spot for yourself on the small terrace outside and you will be a happy person.

Just a little bit different and just a little bit more fun, that's lunchroom Confetti on the Prinsenstraat. Both the interior and the menu are a treat. Pastel colors on the wall, glitter, disco balls and vintage. Everything you dreamed of when you threw a party as a child and things that still make us happy. Just like the candy chains on the counter. The menu includes things like goat cheese sandwiches with grilled peach and toast with peanut butter, fried banana and chocolate shavings. Coffee comes from Ief & Ido Koffiebranderij and is specially roasted for Confetti. Where's the party? Here's the party.

Vincenzo's Osteria

Vincenzo's Osteria

Vincenzo's Osteria is a newcomer on Piet Heinstraat. Where you don't eat pizza (like across the street behind that mint green facade), but pasta. Italian classics with a twist. Vincenzo's is the kind of place that works well at any time and in any company. Affordable snacks, nice wines. Everything topped with real Italian desserts. You had us ate tiramisu.

PLENTS

PLENTS

The youngest of the bunch: PLENTY in the Zeeheldenkwartier. Where there used to be a shoe store, there is now this coffee and lunch shop, which has been furnished by the two owners with new furniture and vintage finds. Result: cozy seats by the window, flowers on the table, everything fresh and nice. The kitchen is 100% plant-based and that sounds like an excuse to us not to have to choose. So we don't do that either. Cinnamon rolls, pancakes and carrot cake with coffee from Giraffe, a small roastery from Rotterdam. Not in the mood for something sweet? That's crazy, but the choice is also huge for you. Toast with mushrooms, fresh bagels with avocado. Everything to take with you, by the way, if, like us, you are often passing through when you cycle through the Piet Hein.

Our regular stop in Mokum when we are ready for one caffeine fix. Where we on Kinkerstraat more often than not coffee on the go get (because on the go and still no room), we are happy to settle down at this branch on Torenstraat. Inside with a laptop or recently outside behind the café. Hooray for the terrace permit that the men received. It is clear that the plants still need some love, but secretly it has something, such a 'secret' garden with picnic tables and chairs here and there. Urban hangout it is. We'll be brief about the coffee: here you can drink a cup of coffee as usual.

Stadsvilla Hotel Mosaic

Stadsvilla Hotel Mosaic

Stadsvilla Mozaic is located within walking distance of the center. A boutique hotel located in two monumental buildings in the Archipelbuurt. Not often have we slept as heavenly as here. Because oh those beds, the fluffy blankets, the soft but not too soft pillows. Refueling-deluxe and for that reason alone an address to return to again. All rooms are spacious and some have a semi-open bathroom. The setting has something nostalgic and the service is personal with a capital P.

Filya Indoor Garden

Filya Indoor Garden

We can safely describe city garden shop Filya as a green oasis in the middle of The Hague. It is wonderful to wander around among the large, small, tropical and non-tropical plants. Every corner equally picture-perfect and thanks to the glass roof, so nice and light. It spontaneously gives you green fingers, or at least makes you want to provide your own living room, bedroom, - oh why not - bathroom with a cactus or a hanging plant. And in addition to plants, there are pots, lots of pots. This way you can easily mix and match a cozy wealth of plants.
