30 x the ultimate tips for a weekend in Copenhagen

30 x the ultimate tips for a weekend in Copenhagen

During the spring and summer we prefer to take city trips to Lisbon, Barcelona of Rome., for example, don't forget Copenhagen: when it's cold, the Danes have a good time indoors, when it's sunny, we prefer to be among the locals in the parks and on the terraces Copenhagen knows a lot. And now let's have such a local in the Danish capital. Hence a collection of 30 x Copenhagen; newcomers and those places that you still shouldn't miss in 2023.

CAMINO

CAMINO

In the Kødbyen district, aka gain Meatpacking District, the slaughterhouses have made way for numerous cozy bars and restaurants. Bee  CAMINO dishes from Spanish-French cuisine are prepared on an open fire. Although in most cases this means that large piles of meat are served and you end up with one smokey jacket – which will remind you of your restaurant visit for days – walks out the door, that is not the case here. It turns out that appearances (and the name of the neighborhood) are deceiving, because even as a vegetarian you can eat excellently here. In addition to modest portions of meat and fish, a lot of vegetables are grilled. Smoked almonds, green asparagus, fried eggplant... todo rico. Also important: for the enthusiast, the choice of wine is enormous.

BUKA BAKERY

BUKA BAKERY

BUKA BAKERY is centrally located, between metro stations Kongens Nytorv and Marmorkirken. Even if you are not in the area you can get there relatively quickly. A visit to this bakery is well worth your metro ticket (or extra steps), because the pastries the ones they sell here are heavenly. Behind the display case you will find cinnamon rolls, pistachio croissants, cardamom brioches and their special spandauers. There are a few tables inside and outside so you can immediately start with a coffee or juice on the side.

Folkehuset Absalon

Folkehuset Absalon

Folkehuset Absalon is located on the popular Sønder Boulevard in Copenhagen's hip Danish Vesterbro district. This former church has been transformed into a hip meeting place where there is always something to do. There are daily community dinners organized, almost every weekend there is an event and you can follow yoga classes. There are nice study places, you can drink coffee and have a cheap breakfast. So cheap (for Copenhagen standards), that even at half past seven in the morning there was already a short queue.

The reef

The reef

Reffen is a bit reminiscent of Amsterdam North. The site in the harbor is raw, industrial and has a nice hip atmosphere. It's the largest street food Copenhagen market and it is full of colored ones food trucks. Wine and food in abundance and even when you are full with a group picky If you are an eater, everyone can find something they like. Provided for everyone? Plop down on the 'beach' with your feet in the sand. There is regular live entertainment on weekends and evenings and the atmosphere becomes even better.

La Banchina

La Banchina

You pass by on the way to Reffen La Banchina. This blue bathhouse has only 14 seats inside, but luckily you can also go outside. Even if you have already eaten your fill in Reffen (the chance is quite high), you still want to settle down here. Even if it's just to take a dip, between the locals sunbathing on the jetty or enjoying the view from the terrace (that's right, the aforementioned one locals). The menu mainly includes breakfast and lunch dishes, vegetables and seafood. Everything served is local and natural. Even the wine, at a place like La Banchina they cannot leave out natural wine. Oh yes, a little more about the history of the restaurant. The sauna of the former swimming house has remained intact and can be booked every day from 8.00am.

Banegaarden

Banegaarden

Banegaarden is the place where maintenance of trains and train equipment used to be carried out. The 'yard' is located on the railway, between Sydhavn and Vesterbro. The abandoned DSB buildings were renovated and the wooden barns now house various (sustainable) eateries. Two out of nine; Perron bakery, where the tastiest sourdough breads are baked and Ticket restaurant. With the latter, the destination (and therefore the menu) changes monthly. Going to see (and taste) that.

Hotel Grand Joanne

Hotel Grand Joanne

The recently (2023) renovated hotel Grand Joanne. is one of those places where everything seems to be right. This is primarily due to the 18th century corner building in which she lives. She can also be seen on the inside. The rooms have comfortable beds with linen bed skirts, crunchy bedding and pillows that you can completely disappear into. The temptation to never leave your room again is great, but it is still a good idea to do so. That this is a good idea is already clear in the stairwell – with stained glass windows and zebra print stair runners. An equally beautiful one in the basement gym where you can work up a sweat or take a yoga class, and on the roof there is a rooftop bar where you can enjoy a drink in the sun. Food can also be added (that's why it is in this list). en casa Joanne's restaurant.

Les Trois Cochons

Les Trois Cochons

The Trois Cochons is a Parisian bistro in Danish. We probably don't have to tell you that the two go very well together, but we will anyway. On the menu you will find French classics such as: moules frites also dishes with a Scandinavian twist. The avocado, for example, which is served on rye bread instead of toast. Even when you step out the door, you will remain in the French atmosphere for a while. The restaurant is located on Værnedamsvej, a très Francais shopping street on the border between Vesterbro and Frederiksberg.

Corsa Pizza

Corsa Pizza

Just a ten-minute walk from the central station you will find the newest branch of Corsa Pizza, where you can enjoy antipasti and Neapolitan sourdough pizza. Don't forget to look up to admire the colorful ceiling. Once you have done that, you can focus your eyes on your plate again so that you can enjoy the food even more.

Garden Café

Garden Café

Be sure to look for the incredibly cozy terrace of the Garden Café Rosenborg Copenhagen. It Garden Café is hidden near Rosenborg Slot in the middle of the city in the large, well-known Kongens Have Park. Familiar, yes, and yet a so-called one hidden gems, this garden café. You can read more via the link above.

Hotel Sanders

Hotel Sanders

Sure. Hotel Sanders is a hotel and we actually have a completely different list for that (read: the nicest hotels in Copenhagen). That's true. But Hotel Sanders also has exactly the kind of bistro-style restaurant that you would like to join, regardless of whether you are staying in the hotel or not. Such a subdued, just-right color palette, a French terrace, a conservatory that was purchased sparingly from the local garden centre, art on the walls, waiters in waistcoats, delicious food (Risotto! Buratta! Charcuterie!), even better cocktails, chic but never too much… You understand, Sanders, Hotel Sanders, we are fans.

BÆST

BÆST

Holy crap this is a winner! Because yes, we have to admit that the whole Nordic Kitchen is great of course, and that you can eat better than among the Danes, but that during a city trip like this we are also sometimes tired in the evening. Tired of fighting, let's leave it at that. And then we 'just' want a bite that fills and is not always complicated. But we are in Copenhagen and we want something! Well: BÆST is your golden mean. Pizzas-plus on the menu, everything organic and a local that competes with the best restaurants in all areas. Now you again.

Peace

Peace

It's a bit of an easy decision, but here it is: you don't go to Rust for your rest. Ha-ha. Anyway. Peace so, in the Nørrebro district, an area where you can already go for live music and nightclubs. And so also for Rust where you rock your hips (or go wild, it's up to you) to indie rock, indie pop, hip hop and electronica. On Fridays and Saturdays Rust is a nightclub, the rest of the week an intimate bar for live music and a relaxing drink in the cocktail lounge: Upstairs bar. Can you guess where it is?

Baka d'Busk

Baka d'Busk

Vega(n) or no vega(n), at Baka d'Busk you are guaranteed to eat well. At this vegetarian restaurant, the menu consists of approximately 50% vegetarian dishes and 50% vegan dishes. They are only open in the evening (except on Sundays) and then you can go there for various snacks, dinner, desserts and different types of cheese, including plant-based varieties. The dishes are all equally colorful, fresh and tasty and they serve all kinds of natural wines with these goodies. Inside it is cozy and casual. Later in the evening the music is turned up and a cocktail bar is created vibe.

Montergade restaurant

Montergade restaurant

Very good food according to the Danish principle? A bit chic, but above all very nice and tasty? That's possible Restaurant Møntergade. During the day they serve classic Danish lunches, in the evening Danish and French cuisine come together. Reservations are not possible, so you can walk in whenever you want.

Admiralgade 26

Admiralgade 26

Fancy a fancy dinner and something different? Admiralgade 26, a restaurant named after the address, nice and easy to remember, is a great one Nordic Japanese restaurant in an old theater in the heart of the city. Nordic Japanese indeed, the cuisine that the Danes themselves are known for (Nordic Kitchen) in combination with Japanese goodness. And a French touch, because that is also clearly reflected in the surprising, original but pure dishes. Moreover, the service is second to none. Costs a few cents but it's worth every euro. If we have to name an upscale dinner favorite, it has to be Admiralgade 26.

Cantina (plus Pastis and Fishmarket)

Cantina (plus Pastis and Fishmarket)

We would especially (very!) prefer to retreat to a tasteful brown café-plus, both at home and abroad, for a long evening, which starts at the end of the afternoon. Where both the brown (read: friendly and uncomplicated) and the plus (the inner person also wants to be pampered) are important. In Copenhagen Pate Pate has been a top favorite in the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen for years, and that remains the case in the harbor of the Danish city, but we would also like to join in CANTEEN, in the same style. Delicious Italian food, friendly service, good location and getting out the door within an hour seems almost impossible. Cantina is run by the people who also run Pastis, just like the Fishmarket. For the latter, just like Paté Paté in the harbour, you love it!

Sonny

Sonny

Hi Sonny! You are such a light and fresh little place and we prefer to plop down every day on the bench with the striped cushion in front of the window covered with your golden logo! Sonny had us at helloh, thanks to the no fuss mentality of the coffee shop with sweet rolls. And thanks to the fantastic avocado sandwich with poached egg, chimichurri, beetroot, nuts and salad (but really, that's the bomb).

Gaarden & Gaden

Gaarden & Gaden

Located on Nørrebrogade street in the heart of the multicultural Nørrebro district Gaarden & Gaden, a small café that has become the most beloved neighborhood in its relatively short existence hangout has become. Not surprising: the business is smart and the focus is on the best natural wines organic food doesn't hurt the case either. Oh, and when the sun shines, the spacious terrace in front of the door is a top tip (space, the best thing about addresses that are perhaps just off the beaten path).

Restaurant Ostergro

Restaurant Ostergro

A more than super-cuts glass greenhouse restaurant on top of the roof of an old car auction house! You can read more via the link: Restaurant Ostergro

MENU Space

MENU Space

For the interior design enthusiast: a café that is part of the office of the architects of Norm Architects and their own design label MENU. What's in a name, right? MENU Space is the café that accompanies it, with spot-on coffee on the spot-on marble tables. The business is sleek and relaxing, not surprisingly mainly intended as a co-working space: a place for meetings and quiet work. And so that coffee.

The Coffee Collective

The Coffee Collective

This coffee collective is a household name throughout Copenhagen and the club's cups of comfort are served throughout the city, at the best addresses. The closest to the source is of course one of the four own businesses The Coffee Collective has, and they are all great.

CUB Coffee Bar

CUB Coffee Bar

There is no shortage of coffee in Copenhagen anyway (thanks to the northern cold of course, we don't mind). If you want to retreat with a cup of coffee again, look up CUB Coffee. A cozy coffee bar in the heart of the city. The beans are roasted in the back of the shop and the smell beckons you from afar to CUB.

Roberta

Roberta

Anyone who follows this site knows that we love the cuisine of the American South. Barbecue slow food and the accompanying slow style. Delicious. And nowadays you also find that in Copenhagen. Roberta is part of Madklubben, a catering mini-chain, and is located on the water in the Nørrebro district. The restaurant takes you on an exclusive journey from Nørrebro to South and Central America. You will be taken to a world with ceviche, tacos, a wealth of green side dishes and the tastiest Latin American cocktails.

Studio September

Studio September

At concept store Studio September it is a very pleasant place to stay. Coffee, a good breakfast, a delicious lunch… And the best shopping. Two birds with one stone. The studio was founded by designer Jonas Trampedach, a well-known name in the Copenhagen design and art scene. A number of his designs are for sale in the store.

Wine bar Naærvær

Wine bar Naærvær

The chicest wine bar in Copenhagen? Naervær, which means 'in the now'. Be present, be here. Away from the hustle and bustle, and that is exactly what the architects of Norm have achieved with their serene wine bar. Not that it's unpleasant! No. But the looks radiate tranquility, allowing you to fully enjoy the enormous selection of (open) wines and divine small bar snacks. Strandgade 87 C

And while you are enjoying wine, also visit the more cozy wine bar Ved Beaches 10 not over, in addition to the bar there is also a wine shop.

Almanac

Almanac

Fancy a fancy dinner in the harbour? Then you should be there Almanac. With one star and one of the best restaurants in Copenhagen, they say. Almanak is located in an old customs office on the water and is part of the food empire of chef Claus Meyers (google it), a chef famous for his sublime Nordic Kitchen. Let's be honest: we like it best for lunch. Less pricey and you also get something from the location on the water.

Glyptoteket (museum)

Glyptoteket (museum)

Something completely different? On to The Glyptotheque, the brainchild of Carl Jacobsen, the man behind the Carlsberg brewery. The man liked to collect art and presented his collection to the public for the first time (thank you Carl) in this amazing building in 1882. A huge palm garden was built in the middle and of course there is also a café.

Vakst

Vakst

Good to know: the Cofoco group has a small monopoly position in Copenhagen. This is also the case with a restaurant les threeis cocons part and also Vakst belongs to the Cofoco empire. All restaurants in the group exude that unprecedented serene Nordic look and feel, and that is beautiful. Väkst was inspired by an organic garden (väkst means growth), the interior was built entirely with recycled materials and here too those delicious no fuss in the air. Sankt

Kompa'9

Kompa'9

This café has been around since 2014 and from day one has been a great alternative for any time of the day in central Copenhagen. Organic coffee on the menu, the WiFi is fast and free and the seating areas are homely. It should come as no surprise that Kompa'9 is popular among the self-employed in Copenhagen.
