Hot off the (vegan) press: Vanplanten restaurant in Utrecht

Just opened in beautiful Utrecht and already a mega-fun: VanPlanten restaurant on Surinamestraat, just a little off the beaten track of Utrecht city and therefore all the more fun (because only for those in the know). Everything is vegan and the entire tent is decorated with recycled pearls. Logical too, because owner Hans Messie runs four thrift stores in 030.

Hans' new vegan restaurant, VanPlanten Utrecht, in the Lombok district, opened its doors on July 2. It is Hans' first restaurant, but certainly not the best man's first sustainable project: in addition to the restaurant, he runs the Wawollie thrift store chain. The profits here go to animal welfare, nature and the environment. It is also not the first vegan restaurant in this location: previously there was restaurant The Vegan Gorilla, the former Van de Straat. It closed its doors at the beginning of May after eleven months. Too bad, but there's a good chance that VanPlanten will make it.

Just because of the looks, which are nice (the entire interior comes from thrift stores), and the dishes are good. Moreover, here too, a large part of the profits go to charities. VanPlanten
