Vin Fou: new French spot on JP Heijestraat, Amsterdam
The Jan Pieter Heijestraat keeps pulling great addresses out of the hat. And sure enough, we've added another one. Vin Fou Number 143 has now opened its doors, and that makes us happy. A small restaurant with a French soul, an extensive wine list, and above all, no fuss. Behind the business is Angelo Kremmydas, whom you might already know from Gitane, a few doors down, and Massalia in Oost. That man certainly knows how to open a fine hospitality business, that much is clear.
A little bit of France, but right in the middle of Amsterdam-West. At Vin Fou, it's all about good food, delicious wine, and above all, a cozy atmosphere. The menu is nice and simple, with small dishes to nibble on and a changing menu every week. today's specialThink of steak tartare with vadouvan, barbecued beetroot with beurre blanc, and good bread with herb butter. And for those who like to be surprised a little: the daily special changes every week. A good reason to come back often, right?
The name says it all: at Vin Fou, they are quite crazy about wine. And they take it seriously, because alongside the compact menu, there is a fairly extensive wine selection. From a nice glass with appetizers to a special bottle for those who want to really settle in. Also nice: you don't have to empty your entire wallet right away.
And the atmosphere? Think of a bright corner building, large windows, wood, steel, and a bit of that unpolished bistro feel. The kind of place where you walk in for a glass and, before you know it, end up staying a little longer for a plate of food. Or two. Reservations aren't necessary (and aren't possible), because at Vin Fou you simply pull up a chair whenever you feel like it. Also nice: the doors are open every day. Healthcare, let's just say!
