Williams Farmhouse: rural charm on Beethovenstraat in Amsterdam

At Williams Farmhouse on the Beethovenstraat in Oud-Zuid Amsterdam you can enjoy British delicacies with a rural charm in the interior. Cosy and friendly is the first thing that comes to mind. From candlelight to paintings with hunting dogs, deer antlers on the wall, petrol blue walls, cozy seats with suede armchairs, a wine cellar and British dishes that are out of this world. At Williams Farmhouse you come for simply good food, with the feeling that you are venturing into the English countryside.

What the pot offers

Be careful: your mouth may start to water. Highlights on the menu are without a doubt the scotch egg and the beef tartare, served in bone marrow, to start. The portions are elegant and large enough to capture that wonderful taste of fish & chips experience, while still leaving room for all the goodies that come after. Then you order the Williams Pie, filled with lamb stew and topped with mashed potatoes (which have that perfect hard crust on top) and truffle as an extra option. Also the steak Diane was recommended to us. Then make sure you still have room for the warm apple crumble with cinnamon ice cream and the eton mess with poached pear in Earl Grey.

And what do we drink with it?

And what do we drink with it?

In one hand your fork, which you don't want to let go of during dinner, and in the other hand a bubbly, Burgundy, followed by an always good Merlot and the dessert wine Clos L'Abeilley from 2019. Yes, the wine list is very extensive, and you can take a good look at all the international wines downstairs when you are on your way to the toilet, where the open wine cellar is located. And on. If you want, the bartender comes to your table to find a cocktail that suits you. Or you move on to the bar, with high chairs that you can't get off. A favorite was the Licorice Sour with Bourbon, egg white and licorice liqueur, served with a licorice-fruit duo on the rim of your glass.

Last but not least a huge shout out to the staff, who will tell you everything about the dishes in detail throughout the dinner. Or you can take a seat at the Chefs Table, so that you can keep an eye on everything from there. By the way, we would also like to know where the tableware comes from, because we want it all. Not only can you join us for dinner, they are also open for lunch – just as delicious! A little bird whispered to us that there was a sunday roast is coming. Say no more. Double celebration, although you might want to leave your vegetarian aunt at home.
